So personal... &mdash 07/17/07 - 09:19:45 AM
Steve, this was personal for me to listen to, as my parents were alcoholics. Talk about memories... I'm glad you turned out good in spite of it all and are back to making music. :-)

given pause... &mdash 07/17/07 - 11:34:42 AM
I've been sitting here, staring at the screen now, for minutes after your piece has finished, not knowing quite what to type. This was a very touching, well-written and well-delivered piece of prose... it stirred many very strong, very ambivalent feelings inside me, so I can only say that your thoughts were powerfully conveyed. Very bravely and powerfully written, thank you for sharing, and I am always happy to see the wonders that you create and share... thank you.

Drakonis

A very important song &mdash 07/19/07 - 05:07:52 AM
So important!

I just cant understand why people, generally speaking, don't see the simple and obvious facts of what happens. If it was understood, then energetic measures would have been taken immediately. Thousands of broken hearts and lives would have been saved. And billions of money.

I just cant understand.

A very important song!

Hi Johannes! &mdash 07/19/07 - 04:47:46 PM
Really great to hear from you.
Alcohol here in the uk is becomming an even bigger problem especially amongst young people with binge drinking etc. The authorities have a lot to answer for.
Also the introduction of 24 hr drinking has made life very difficult for so many families. People really need to listen more but unless they have direct experience of this type of issue they probably don't care.
Thanks for your much valued comments Johannes.
ps...how about another collab sometime? :-)
Best Regards
Steve

Hi Steve &mdash 07/19/07 - 05:10:08 PM
The emotional impact of this piece is quite effective, but I have a nit pick... there are places where I can't understand what is being said.. and I don't think you can afford to let one word be waisted here..

I would throw an eq on the voice and pull out any muddy frequencies, then maybe nudge the voice up a hair...

sorry... but it's too important to miss

after re-reading this I don't want to be critical..keep in mind my ears are pretty beat up at this point in my life

Powerful performance &mdash 07/20/07 - 01:39:47 PM
and an all too common story. A friend of mine recently said that in his experience he has come to understand that alcohol is stronger than love - stronger than love itself. That's the only explanation for how it can claim so many lives. I'm especially moved by the ending "there were days when the alcohol didn't own you". Thanks for sharing this.

Wonderfully &mdash 07/28/07 - 07:47:57 PM
performed with great feeling. Not much more I can say, except that I have a real aversion to alcohol after horrible family experiences when I was very young until my teens, so I felt every word. You got it across beautifully, and I love the repeated voice parts, M

Gives me pause, &mdash 08/07/07 - 03:36:04 PM
for while I didn't grow up in an alcoholic family, I grew up with parents who strictly forbade it. And I think as a result my brothers and I, in our teenage rebellion, drank heavily. My wife and I both drink, and while I don't think that has destroyed our family, I know that sometimes it affects it, and songs like this force that fact in my face with great clarity.

Thanks for posting this.
