Description:
Just to make sure I wasn't going soft. This is a fast and hard rock tune.
Lyrics are pretty obvious at making a jab at the "certain elite" that seem to wear teflon suits and ear muffs.

Lyrics:
Lost Boys

1
an open letter
to the lost boys
they the burn words
to silence the stories
lost boys don't read anymore
do you see the signs
could you read there minds
is it the sign of the times
can they see the writing
on the wall
but they ignore the phone calls

chorus:
don't believe in the lost boys
divided they stand
don't believe in the lost boys
united they fall

2
you have a freedom
as long as you pay
but be careful
of what you want
political savants take what you got
best you worry
we install fear
you are protected here
we take the measures
go to great lengths
or bad boys will enforce the fear

chorus:
don't believe in the lost boys
divided they stand
don't believe in the lost boys
united they fall

3
protecting there own
a tight knit clan
evangelistic hair
makes the man
no one goes down united they stand
did the stories change
for monetary gains
somebody better explain
see the writing
on the wall
lost boys deny it all.

chorus:
don't believe in the lost boys
divided they stand
don't believe in the lost boys
united they fall
dont' believe in the lost boys (x3)

Love the guitar that is between the stanzas and chorus! then the almost led zeppelin sounding slow part.. your leading is outstanding. I love your sound so clear another one for the Ipod!!!!!!!!!!!

The slow part. I thought it would be cool to throw in something at half the speed and get a little bluesy. I was trying to think who it reminded me a little of. maybe Led Zep is right.

Thanks again. I liked your new rosebud tune!

Even though you have a sound... &mdash 07/20/07 - 08:48:22 PM
...an established sound, and a good sound...

I keep hearing refinement every time I hear that sound again...

I may be wrong--in fact, with your stuff, I think I'm MOSTLY wrong--but it sounds like you're getting the same multi-guitar sound with fewer guitars... it still sounds full, jangly, and every other thing it has to be, and yet it has some degree of simplicity to my ears...

I was disappointed at the speed of the final fade, as that outro lead break sounded fiery cool...

Are you still going to tell me there are no effects on the voice?

And really--no embedded graphic element? I have come to expect a certain level of quality, Vic...

Y'know sometimes I just sit here listening to one of your songs trying to imagine what you've concocted in your various signal chains to get the blend and the mix that you come up with... Mostly I give up... but it's fun...

Thanks Ed &mdash 07/20/07 - 09:29:42 PM
I'm still learning the software and probably always will. You can spend quite a few evenings just tweeking the levels and pans and other perameters.

I only use the compression & noise gate on my vocals, and maybe a small bit of reverb......and that shiny green button that says do not touch (kidding, about the green button, it's red)

True a bulk of the song is fairly basic chords, it's just the stuff that goes off from there. Signal wise, i use a fender twin amp model, BBE Sonic Stomp and ibanez tube screamer. Some parts have a marshall stack simulator. Some parts i use once in a while is the volume pedal with long delays.

Since i bounce the track straight from Logic it doesn't have a image tag. Actually I didn't even realize i could tag the other stuff until a few weeks ago.

Thanks again Ed!

I feel like such a groupie, the energy here kicks total ass, That break is exquisite it allows the listener to cath the breath then solo gets it all back in gear, this is no haolds barred V.H.!!!! rip it up Vic!

Heck, I get all giddy like a school girl when you release a tune.

It has been a while since I did a fast. The downside is I sprained my index finger near the end of this.

this is a suburb work ..I m hearing amazing
guitar work , real sence of classic rock
wish "wear teflon suits and ear muffs" done that
your voice is so diffrent here the taste you
gave with your singing here is like old Status Quo
just a blast ..the acoustic Ibanez in the middle
was a real charm break down ..Kudos my friend !!!

Go's to show use older guys can still rock!

Yeah my voice sounds a bit different, but then I had to do it louder to overcome the rest of the music.

The acoustic section was actually going to be the original song, But I though about rocking it out a bit.

Great tune Vic - I so love the guitars on this Vic - they have a real chrusy/jangley 80's quality to them which is right up my street, but then you mix the acoutsic in sooo well with them. The slow-down works a treat, just before we're hit with that scorchin' solo.

You don't sound lost at all ... this gets better and better as the track goes on! Wat to say - another cracking Holman guitar epic ... how can one man have so many great tunes in him???

Hi Steve &mdash 07/21/07 - 07:04:45 PM
I had to do this whole thing in brief parts. Our daily tempertures was so hot. my recording room upstairs was like a sauna. The guitar strings would go out of tune so fast. Originally i was doing lyrics about the tabloid stories at the store checkout stands. Bat Boy turned into lost boys.

Usually when I start thinking about a new song, i realize I've got nothing. Luckily something comes to mind. so far. I fit comes to that point then it's guitar for hire. well II would do that anyway.

That I'm not Tom Petty. I still have to go to work in the mornings. But if he ever needs a stand-in and the pay is good.

You know these lost boys, it's that blank stare. The middle slow section was actually going to be the basis of the song.

I spread out recording this over 2 weeks. So it gave me some time to think of where to go with it. I had to trim out quite a few things when it would get to thick. The hardest part was figuring out any lyrics. The one saving grace for me was I was able to sing the song all the way through in one pass. I don't know how singers can do so many songs live in a row

Nope...NOT "going soft"! &mdash 07/22/07 - 01:57:49 PM
Nice 80's rock feel here Vic...Love the transition from the verse to that outstanding chorus! Great git-chops as per usual. Your bass playing is exceptionally nice here as well! Oh yeah...just got to the slow section...very nice...and then we're BACK!!! Two thumbs up on the arrangement Vic. My one and only nit is that I thought the fade was too fast at the end. I'd have gone for a more gradual descent with your magnificent leads slowly soaring off into the distance! But's that's just me!

Rock on Vicar!

the slower part was going to be the basis of this song originally. But I felt I needed to belt one out.
Originally there was going to be no guitar solo at the end. that was just a last minute thing and i didn't have much space left. To bad I felt i was just warming up then hit the dreaded end marker

Classic VH &mdash 07/22/07 - 02:40:41 PM
your VH-1 in my book... here is a high compliment.... as I'm listening here... this piece is remenicent of Jeff Lynn's producing.. you have melded several elements to create a whole... the mix is stellar... the way it kicks into the chorus... with the dual guitar line.. and that steam-like percusion... It really launches the chorus... i'm not sure how you did it... really brilliant

passionate vocals... tops all around

At times i break everything down into small pieces. Could very well be from listening to bands like ELO and some of the older prog rocker type of stuff.

The drums I played on the keyboard. It kind of keeps it more of a live feel.

Vocally I got this in one pass. Lucked out there. Otherwise I would of had to wait another day to attempt it again.

BTW hope your feeling better.

Better late than never Vic - sorry for the delay. Like Mike D, I'm on catchup.

The quality of your production seems to be getting better with each new post. This has hints of Traffic and Ray Davies to me, although that's only meant as a marker, not an accusation ;) The clarity you're getting with Logic is an impressive demonstration of its capabilities. A fine post! Now, I want to hear the full tabloid story on "Bat Boys".

Only posted this Friday night.

Thanks Neil. those are always good benchmarks. Always appreciated Traffic.

It's nice when you can adjust all the plug-in parameters throughout the song tracks. Especially on the high pass and low cut filters.

Bat Boy was one of those front page stories I think on Enquire. He would be captured only to escape and run rampant. Then he would be found again and escape. But to do a song he would also have to go on a diet and lose 10 pounds over the weekend, associate with zombies, predict the future, be adopted by Madonna, and get wisked away by a UFO.

Another great song from you - love those guitars. A real wall of sound - perhaps there's a little too much limiting going on - I just want it to get louder but it's hitting a brick wall when your vocals come in (and I'm with the others on the rapid fade). Apart from those minor crits it's excellent and yet another fav.

Another Comet &mdash 08/06/07 - 06:06:00 AM
comes burning across the sky from Planet Vic! How do you do this so consistantly?

Your guitars are always a tour de force, not just for your virtuosityness (touch of Radar O'Rielly there) but the sophisticated balancing of different guitar sounds and effects and THEN herding it all into one potent, cohesive hammer of a tune. I've said all this stuff in previous tunes, but you just keep finding ways to make the Vic Holman Sound fresh and exciting.
