Description:
I began with a couple of chords intending to write a kind of love song, but as I wrote the words'Somethings going on.... ' I added 'in the world' and it sort of changed direction and out came my very smallest soap box again( Must have something nagging me LOL). I promise you I'm not a fanatic LOL
Lyrics:
What is going on in the world? People warring,
Something's going on in the world, nerves are Jarring,
People try to live their lives, striving for happiness,
Try to make their dreams come true, but something's gone amiss.
People say God's on their side, so why the killing?
If God is really on their side, why are they so willing,
To take away what God has made and fill the world with hate?
Can't they come together, or is it too late?
Is this what God really wants, people at war?
If this is what their God really wants, then I don't want to know.
Something's changing in the world, Evil's thriving,
Someone's tryin' to brainwash the world, but I'm not buyin'
That a God with so much love, would destroy what's good.
He wouldn't want the people of the world, to spill their blood.
Send out Love to the world. people need it,
Show them all we care for the world and make them heed it.
Maybe peace will come to the world. C'mon let's all sow it.
Look what we've done to the world and think what we owe it.
Look round at the wonders of the world and all the beauty,
Flowing rivers and forests of the world; don't you think it's our duty,
To protect and love it all; best of all to share it,
To be proud of all we see... and it was for free?
I'm thankful that I'm in the world and that I love it
And when it's time for me to leave the world and I'm looking from above it,
I will say with all my heart, "This was my home and the place that I shared with Love, for everyone".
The place that I shared with love, for everyone.

Somethings Going On &mdash 07/23/07 - 04:17:02 AM
the voice of protest music from the 60s
just all what came to my mind and how this
is what most respectfull for a musician can bring
"People say God's on their side, so why the killing?
If God is really on their side, why are they so willing,
To take away what God has made and fill the world with hate?
Can't they come together, or is it too late?"
you sum it all here ...this is a classic !!!!
thank you for such a gem !!

Hi Feter.. &mdash 07/23/07 - 07:18:03 AM
You're correct it is a 'protest song', but that only occurred to me after I had posted it.I fully understand why you in particular would approve of this sentiment and I'm absolutely pleased that you approve, best regards, M

Very moving! And such powerful lyrics. I really like how you introduced strings and a choir; it really takes it to another level. Great work here! [ Reply to This ]

Strong message &mdash 07/24/07 - 04:34:24 PM
There's good and bad. I hope that after pouring out your heart like that you looked up and saw some positive image. Children, flowers, my new song :-)
Somehow the ending of this song reminds me of Louis Armstrong's "Wonderful World". In spirit, and a bit in music.

Yes Vic &mdash 07/24/07 - 05:44:20 PM
there is good as well bad, but not a lot of good coming from and going on in certain parts of the world.. and encroaching on ours too; but yes, I do have a positive image when I see my grandchild and all children/people. My garden too is a good image at present, heaving with flowers.
I tried to listen to your latest, to no avail though, as the little Quicktime icon is blanked out when I try to play it, but I'll keep trying. Thanks for dropping in and listening though, cheers M

You got me there, Moviz! &mdash 07/24/07 - 05:12:38 PM
I was a bit sceptic after a line or two, but then suddenly I was caught! This was actually great! Wonderful lyrics which you found an excellent sound for. Maybe not perfect in a technical sense (I don't know), but then again a good song need it NOT. So, well done all over! Kudos! [ Reply to This ]
Glad you ..... &mdash 07/24/07 - 05:56:14 PM
got hooked then Henrik and I can understand you not being keen at first LOL (I have said before that I'm no great guitarist LOL) so I called in the troops so to speak with the keyboard. Yes you're right too about the 'production', but It was a first for me experimenting with the ad lib style of the vocal, Thanks for your comment, M

Your voice sounds great on this song. You deliver the message and the notes with a special kind of sincerity.
Thanks

you said that Bill, because as I've said before, these days, I'm conscious of a quickly deteriorating voice LOL, especially on a slow ballad like this. Therefore I have to rely more on getting the sincerity across in the vocal. I am sincere though regarding the content of the lyrics, so I'm very pleased it came across. Thanks again, M

Love the lyrics...indeed...I BELIEVE in lyrics like this! Beautifully sung, arranged and orchestrated. You just made yourself a fan and a friend!

Hey! &mdash 07/25/07 - 11:56:49 PM
When I commented earlier today I know I faved this one, but when I came back just now I noticed it didn't take. Server problems or something earlier I guess. Anyway, I've corrected the problem Maurice!
Again, great work here!

An amen to the sentiments you express here. You've a great voice and I love what you've done with the arrangement here. Do I detect some Bach influence in the chord progression? This is really an instant standard, thanks for sharing it here! [ Reply to This ]
Thank you Bing... &mdash 07/31/07 - 02:06:34 PM
for that association with a master, but I fear it must be purely accidental, even though I follow and love all music genres, classical to pop. I'm pleased that you like this song as the sentiment comes from deep inside and I'm really grateful for your nice comments, regards M

mmm nice &mdash 08/03/07 - 04:38:10 PM
great vocals...reminiscent of Richard Hawley I think...a similar feel to some of his stuff (with that guitar sound too!) I like the production on this, a very nice feel indeed
Cheers for sharing

warmly, with authority &mdash 08/03/07 - 08:06:48 PM
You take immediate command of the stage with your sonorous, genuine, emotive voice. God bless you for boldly venturing from the confines of your bathroom (I read your bio) to the streets and shores of the world. Excellent. You are carrying the torch of Roger Whittaker. That is a huge compliment, for Roger has been an ambassador of folk tunes and ballads for many years. You sing warmly, with authority. [ Reply to This ]

indeed a compliment and coming from a troubadour such as yourself, it is praise indeed. Thank you so much for listening to this, and your kind comments, regards M

A Gem &mdash 08/07/07 - 06:21:15 AM
Truly a wonderful lyric, heartfelt and honest.
As others have said, probably not the best production job on MJ's but still a great song. I'm gald there are some people writing about the state of the world - 'cos it's a mess. Thanks for getting afew things off your chest through the medium of song, I for one am listening.

listening to this one too H. I just played it again and I can understand the criticisms from some about production especially those S's, really spoiled it. But I'm glad you managed to see through all that and like it, cheers M [ Reply to This ]
