Description:
I have played the Pacabel "Canon in D" for weddings so many times that I lost count about 20 years ago. And yet the brides keep asking for it. My little "Canon in G" is a waltz, but in the footsteps of its 18th c. model (though the Pacabel is in 2--or 4). I was, I think, mostly happy that I found a solo violin in my digital library that, given sufficient reverb, isn't too bad. What do you think?

Sweet and peaceful... &mdash 07/22/07 - 06:18:01 PM
with just a tinge of sad wistful. I love the bells. Who stole the download button? Beautiful one, Paul. :-)

This is a neat setting of that Canon feel into waltz time, which I just naturally gravitate towards...

Canon in G &mdash 07/23/07 - 04:31:39 AM
can we call this a variations on Canon ? cos you
melt this into your own flavours and colors !!
its magic ... ye the bells sound just in time
and right to the mood . the violin somehow give
the digit feel with its riffin fast ..I was thinking
if you put it down one octave ..is the feel of
the bowing give richer sound or will sound more
digit ?? .. anyhoo thank you for another deligthfull
piece ..!

peace !

After the other side &mdash 07/23/07 - 05:51:33 AM
I was wonderiung whether this was suddenly going to go weird :-)

Very Pachelbel but then again it's a bit difficult to get away from it in that style.

Some very nice touches and you move away enough to make it different.

Cheers

Dick

What can I say? &mdash 07/23/07 - 10:34:10 AM
This is outstanding! I actually still the "original" in D, even tried to make a version around it myself, but this was way cool! Reminds of the old master here and there of course but then you have made it totally your own! Nice twist at the end as well. Ahhh.

Immediately fav'd and dl'd of course!

Very Nice &mdash 07/23/07 - 06:20:30 PM
You almost had me asking my wife to dance :) The violin sounds good (although a real violin would be better).

I think it sounds... &mdash 07/23/07 - 11:07:35 PM
...beautiful.

I am one of those classical players/enthusiasts who will never tire of a great piece. No matter how often I hear it.

You do a wonderful rendition here, Paul.

Mmmmm &mdash 07/24/07 - 05:11:52 AM
Mmmmm .. have loved the piece since I was a young lad, it meant a lot to me in a certain part of my history.

Wonderful to hear variations on the theme. I think you've done it in a great way! Sounds like you're very free in your performance to do almost anything that is fitting, probably because you've played it many times. Guess you'd be able to make a hundred other variations that were equally enjoyable, right?

Beautiful &mdash 10/27/07 - 03:59:22 PM
Paul, this is a beautiful track. Reminds me of a classical string trio (piano, violin, bass) that played on a cruise ship my wife and I were on a few years ago.

Your piano playing is very sensitive and supports the solo line very well. The violin may be digital, but you play it well.

Yes, I like those bell sounds! Nice choice.

Isn't music great! What fun to be able to create, perform, and hear this.

Best,

John

The ending &mdash 10/27/07 - 04:01:43 PM
I was posting the response above, and then the ending played. What a great ending! Sounds like George Shearing.
