Description:
I wrote this in about 1998 on a camping trip, sitting by the fire with my acoustic. There's no loops used in this recording.

Lyrics:

The fire’s in my face, my back gets cold

Something woke me up before the light

That falls upon my window

Everything is black, this side of town

I need to find a spot to turn around

But it makes more sense staying

There’s somewhere I wanna be tonight

The sky looks the same as here

There’s someone I wanna see tonight

Everything is you and you’re not here

Something’s meant to give, this time of year

But I’m sick and tired of waiting

There’s somewhere I wanna be tonight

The sky looks the same as here

There’s someone I wanna see tonight

And I would lose it all

To watch you rise and fall

It’s making less sense everyday

I have seen this thing before

Now I want it even more

I’ll find something I can say

There is always yesterday

Brilliant!!!!!!!! &mdash 08/25/04 - 05:06:18 PM
Another great track Nolan,
You have a great voice, and harmonies are good.
The lyrics are also good.Good drums and overall this is
very well produced..
There is a slight variation in sound level after
"I would lose it all" .. approx 1/2 way through the track
"To watch you rise and fall"
is suddenly louder..
Other than that minor fixable glitch,
This is fantastic.

Brilliant!!!!!!!! &mdash 08/26/04 - 04:23:53 AM
Thanks so much, Slim. I've fiddled with the level of the lead vocal and tried to
even it out. Let me know if it needs any more tweaking, if you don't mind.

Although, gonna' get a little on ya about posting
lyrics, heh! I'd love to see them... especially as the
vocals during the melody seem a little low... is it
melody? The vocals during chorus are fine, but just
seem a little low other than that.

Great arrangement, I like the how it grows to a
climax towards the end of the song. That chord
change up is great!

There you go, Packo. The lyrics are there. That was the first time I didn't put
lyrics on; I didn't think anyone read them. And I re-did the vocal levels.
Thanks.

Much better! And I read the lyrics so you know we read 'em, heheh! Grea
lyric work by the way, they have such a flow, yet feel like spoken
thoughts at the same time. Great job and thanks for posting them!

You're definitely one of the best &mdash 08/26/04 - 08:54:16 AM
songwriters/performers on this site! I always look forward
to hearing your stuff. It never disappoints.

You provide a very rich and varied accompaniment to your
good vocals. Very professional-sounding mix!

I particularly like the instrumental section immediately
preceding the lyrics: "I have seen this thing before". It's a
nice shift, creates space before the vocals re-enter. Very
artful.

You're an excellent musician and I wish you every success!

good song &mdash 08/27/04 - 05:31:22 AM
Very well done. Great balanced parts of the song. You make a good progression through the piece and know how to make it interesting all the way.
How did you record the drums? I guess they are played on a real set?

good song &mdash 08/29/04 - 07:11:45 PM
Thanks Thoddi, appreciate that. To answer your question: I used the
GarageBand "rock" drum kit and a mouse.

Okay. What was I doing that I convinced myself... &mdash 01/28/06 - 04:33:16 PM
...was more important than listening to this song and downloading it?

Just making my way through the back catalog, Nolan....

I love this tune. I like the way you layer everything. The lyrics are as usuall exceptional. You really have a skill for building a song. Sounds like some vibes panned left and right. Are these loops? Great harmony vocals. keep em comming.
