Description:
This is my contribution to the MJ Vocals Game :V401...

The majority of the music I've arranged on this site involves providing backing tracks for singers BareKoala being the case in point. So, I guess, this is pretty much what I'm used to- and love doing...!

A massive thanks to Brian (Chikoppi) for coming up with the concept, what a brilliant idea!-although, it's hardly surprising, given that he founded the 'Loop It Or Lose It' challenge!
Also a huge Thank You to Richard Schletty for kindly allowing us all to put his voice into 'unknown territory'! What a brave soul!
I'll be up front about this arrangement; I have blatantly plagiarised the style of Bert Kaempfert-in fact, 'That Happy Feeling' is the piece this arrangement is based on (which might give you all SOME idea of my questionable taste...but hey, it's all music, whether you like it...or not! ;)
I wanted to use something else for the artwork, but sadly, I'm not too conversant with my Photoshop programme, so, it'll probably change in due course!
So, sit back, shake & pour your martini, and realax to the ultra groovy 'Kaempfert Tribute' to the 'Minstral Boy'!
Cheers to All!

My parents ..... &mdash 07/25/07 - 04:45:16 AM
.... would have loved this one Alf! Very Christmassy - in July of course ;) I hope Jane likes the key change. It slightly boggles the mind that you could do this - never mind THINK about doing it. A classic piece of Eurosong trash (I know you'll appreciate this comment - not meant to be at all derogatory). Apart from all that ..... I'm speechless.
Neil (pass the vermouth).

Richard's vocal is great isn't it - good to see him get a run as well as Rebsie.
I haven't voted (in keeping with our/your pact.

guys &mdash 07/25/07 - 08:33:16 AM
it looks like you have to teach me about music, because after reading of all your comments, i probably have to have really bad taste for music. because i really like it! it sounds to me like a film music from 80's. (talking about my country, not the rest of the world, rest of the world was closed for us, communistic countries that time) we always loved and love to make stories about princesses; kingdoms; saving a country from a devil, from war with a greedy neighbour king, from bad witch, who is putting on appearance of princess to deceive young handsome lad, usually king from other land, and tries to marry him, have kids probably etc. :) i hear in your music a young king returning triumphantly from courting, from little battle somewhere, or a fight with nasty whoever, trotting cross a huge never ending green meadow, full of daisies and red poppy flowers, the sun is shinnig, birdies singing and no one suffering.... how romantic ;)

I don't know about 'teaching' you music! Unlike you, I have lived in Australia all my life, so, Richard's vocals aside- I have no excuse for MY bad taste in music! ;) I guess you could say that we 'Down Under' are also 'closed' from the rest of the world- at least I am! :)

I'm glad this tune conjured up all those images for you!

Many Thanks for the kind comments Pavlina!

Cheers!

This is MY kinda challenge, as I dearly love to put 'backing tracks' to 'voices'...
It was especially enjoyable to have someone 'new' i.e. Richard's vocals, to have some fun with.
you're right, the diversity in thhis challenge is astounding, from what I've heard thus far.
I have quite a bit of listening to do over the next couple of days, so expect me to come and visit you! :)

I dig this arrangement. It is cheesy-resonant. I like the way you support and accent the vocal track, going thick and thin with the instrument-percussion envelope. I even have a pseudo-chorus backing me up now. The Lawrence Welk Hour reborn!

[ Reply to This ]
cheesy & resonant? &mdash 07/25/07 - 11:13:08 PM

Richard, I'd strongly suggest that the arrangement is cheesy & your vocals are the only resonant thing in this track! ;)

I'm pleased that you like this version, especially given that you had no idea what to expect!

Thanks so much for providing us all with the opportunity to have some fun with your voice & Thank You especially for coming around to visit!

Swingin'! &mdash 07/26/07 - 06:03:45 AM
This is brilliant! I grew up with Bert Kaempfert playing on my parents record player, and thought A Swingin' Safari was one of the coolest songs ever. I cannot help smiling as I listen to this-thanks!

And Richard sounds fantastic here-wow! What a great voice! Richard's voice is a very powerful instrument, but I like that he doesn't push it here, just keeps it light and breezy, so your treatment fits perfectly.

Great job all around!

[ Reply to This ]
Swingin'! &mdash 07/26/07 - 08:23:22 PM
LOL!

I also grew up listening to Bert Kaempfert and sadly, continue to do so...Actually, I'm ashamed to admit it, but I own 3 copies of 'Swingin' Safari'- I can't get enough of the 'groovy' model's pose on the cover! I especially love the LP art work from the 60's & 70's ;)

I agree about Richard's voice. It wasn't too difficult to envisage Kaempfert's orchestra & choir as the 'back up', his enthusiastic vocal style just sets the mood.

Many Thanks for popping around for a visit Clark!
Cheers & Best Wishes,
Alf

Great one !! &mdash 07/26/07 - 06:20:20 AM
This one is the best one i've ever heard it !!!
It's is the WINNER .. Mr. Richard vocal is the greatest one ..
And it will be nicer if Mrs. Rebsie's one was in the background ..
But really the music is good and the guitar pickin in the background sounds brilliant ..
Much enjoyable .. thanks for this piece alfalpha !!

omg &mdash 07/26/07 - 03:44:43 PM

.. by the time the key-change came, I was on the floor ..
I think you have had alot of experience working with
raw vocals and providing fabulous backing and this is
no exception. My personal fav so far using Richard's
vocal. It just works. The choir touches are very cool but that bass line ... oh man. Bert who? I need to do some research...the opening bit also gave me some sense of
a 70s British sitcom like "Citizen Smith" or "Some
mother's do 'ave 'em" in it's jovial, light-heartedness.

[ Reply to This ]
LOL! &mdash 07/26/07 - 08:40:48 PM
I sincerely hope that the key change didn't injure you too seriously! ;)
You can lay the blame on the inimitable Bert Kaempfert for this particular submission- if you like, although I'm too blame in this case! ;)
(I also happen to love the '60's style of finger-pickin' bass- it's so cheesy!)
Many Thanks for listening Alan!

Pure Joy! &mdash 07/26/07 - 08:49:19 PM
I was really hoping that you were going to take part in this challenge, Alf. Having had the honor of being Alphalphaized myself, I know the leaps of imagination of which you're capable. I can just see the television special that would have gone with this song, Richard in a turtleneck, suit jacket, wearing skinny trousers on a set that has an inexplicable number of cubes for him to prop his leg upon while he sings and snaps his fingers.

Your song makes me happy and Richard sounds great, too.

[ Reply to This ]
It was pure joy... &mdash 07/26/07 - 09:25:19 PM
...to take part in this challenge Lisa! I jumped at the chance. The honour was mine to 'alfalphatise' Richard in this case- and our 'Oktoberfest Tryst' was certainly no exception!

I can just see Richard in the get up you described & I'm seriously thinking about asking him if he might send a photo of himself in 'said setting', so I can replace the existing artwork! ;) Sadly, I guess this won't come too pass...:(

It's great to see your kind comments here & I'm so pleased you stopped by for a visit!

This is my favorite treatment &mdash 07/28/07 - 08:06:41 AM
thus far of Richard's voice. It rings true and seems quite authentic. Like you could pick up a record of Irish tunes at a swap, bring it home, place it on the player and here this.

I am a big fan of... &mdash 07/29/07 - 08:52:20 PM

So, I guess that recreating certain sound 'styles' via MacJams, GB & Logic keep me entertained enough, until my next 'LP foray into the big smoke'-much to my wife's chagrin ;)

Matt, I really appreciate your visit and the kind comments...
