Description:
this is my entry for analogapolooza. recorded this on 8 track in 1994 with my old band Old Hickory. we had a Tascam cassette 8 track and recorded a lot of stuff that way. this is all recorded live, no overdubs. i didn't clean this up at all.

at that point we worshipped swervedriver, ride, sonic youth, dinosaur jr. etc... i picked this one as it was on a CD we did for KXLU, so I didn't have to convert anything to digital. i'm a lazy guy.

Hardware:
tascam 8 track cassette, radio shack cassette tape, fender jazzmaster, les paul copy, gretsch drums, rickenbacker bass through a hiwatt guitar amp, a couple of fender twins for the guitars, i'm sure we probably used SM57s for everything

Software:

good times &mdash 07/28/07 - 05:48:33 PM
classic alt-rock. nicely recorded for what you had to work with... i miss the days of just rock and roll music... no one grunting, and spewing vocals like the cookie monster on ritalin...
nice warm guitar tones, and a good all around mood within the tune.

yeah i miss those days sometimes too. i miss the whole innocence of it, as in "we play music because we don't know anything else." thanks for stopping by.

I enjoyed this life recording. I really got into the atmosphere of this.

It's good that you've shared this with everyone.

Take care.

Paul.

Great sound you guys had - &mdash 07/29/07 - 07:23:35 PM
I can hear some of the influences mentioned - especially the Sonic Youth dissonant guitars - but this has a really cool vibe all it's own. Are you sing and playing rhythm? Thanks for posting - I'd like to have the whole CD.

yeah i sang and played rhythm on this song. we mixed it up as far as vocals went, so sometimes i just did the noisy stuff. this song was a one off; it was on a comp, we did lots of those in true indie style.

I am not a rock buff, so.. This is still a good song, but I like the subtleness and patience of your more recent tracks better. Hmmm, you are one heaven of a songwriter!! (and hail to the digital mastering era :-/ )

ciao,

Kb

This is done on 8 track??? &mdash 07/30/07 - 12:36:04 PM
Sheeit Mike, we have studio recording that sounded worse than this. Can hear the Ride guitar influence in the guitar. really nice lazy vocal line, all round top tune. You were obviously a quality act even then.

yup, 8 tracks of pure mayhem. we ran everything through the mackie mixer of our PA, and then into the 8 track live. i think about half of our recorded output was done that way (plus some stuff that was on 4 track) before we made it into a real studio. thanks for listening.

Great song man. I hear your influences, but in a good way. You are one heckuva good song writer. I'm so impressed with all you post here.

r.a.d. I love your comment about "the cookie monster on ritalin"!

Well, on this profile is a brilliant musician! Just goes to show the so called mainstream audience is so musically deprived they only know what they're told to like.
