Description:
Well what a treat ....My old Mc .....Mr. Boss Kennedy stopped into town for a couple days so we spent our time together creating a song . This was a beat I had in the working for quite awhile . The two samples are First Alex Hallys' roots read by Darth Vader . Second Strange fruit by The great Billy Holiday . I dont usually use samples like this but I felt it was necessary to convey the message . Boss and I spent about 5 hours tracking this and mixin it down . Lyrics maybe to come . Hope you enjoy......French Toast.

filling in the dark &mdash 07/30/07 - 11:12:58 AM
The preliminary snippets set a bleak stage for the ghetto story. Various conclusions could be drawn from their inclusion - from it being a general foreshadowing ... to a specific view that the dark history of slavery continues to haunt the present - but it works well as a construction to develop a progressive structure for this song-story.

I've listened closely. Still, I wish you would've posted the lyrics. I can't decipher them all. Which leaves me feeling I'm missing something - something that fills in the blanks between the roots and the reality.

Good line: penitentiary reservation - cells overbooked.

I also think you could take the rap sections a bit farther - that there's room for another verse or two, should you be motivated to do that.

Love the choruses. The harmonies grow in complexity as the song progresses.

Thanx for the thoughtful and insightful comment . You took

alot of time to listen and post such a wonderful comment and I

appritiate that thanx. You indeed hit the nail head with the

foreshadowing of roots to 50's to present . This was done by

a good friend of mine who lives in columbuc , OH so

lengthening it will have to be done some other year :)

I will post the lyrics and shoot you an e-mail when I do , to

give you the full experience. Thanx again for the wonderful

insight .

DJ - great, prophetic opening, fantastic vocals and harmonies. I love your use of 'stolen' lyric lines ('rollin' stone' etc), which gives a communal understanding of your message.

Best track I've heard from you, this is, frankly, a f==kin' CLASSIC sounding track.

All 10's , I'd go higher if i could.

This is a truly haunting, beautiful track.

Great work man

Steve

thanx Mr. Echo sir. This is not me on the vocals but my very good friend Mc Boss Kennedy . I just produced it . We here in the hiphop community prefer recycled to " stolen " : ) He was instantly inspired by the beat and began writing as soon as he heard it . It only took us a couple hours . Its a shame we couldnt have gone further with our project a couple years ago but ill settle for what the universe swings my way ...thanx for the comment and the listen Im glad you liked .

the works! I was never into rap, but you've won me over with this one for sure.I don't know what to say and have to blink hard to see the keyboard. I'm blown away with the production alone on this and with the panning voices and all it's a winner all round, thanks for the initiation, M

Hello &mdash 08/01/07 - 10:18:50 PM
Miss Chaos
I and my Mc almost came to tears at really feeling the impact this song has . The two samples are to the core moving . He heard the beat and then 6 hours latter we listened to the final product and ......it really hits a nerve in American history first and then the reality that were all slaves still ......regardless of sex , color , creed or class . Oh yes freedom is relative . Thanx for taking the time to comment .

Was that? &mdash 07/31/07 - 09:08:57 PM
... Billy Holiday?

A great spin, DJ. Full of deep heart... and feeling.

Heartache... yes, ... woven into the story of mankind.

Well communicated by the repetitive refrain.

Listening, on a production level... you might look at the volume levels on some of snippets. Though it might be my inexpensive ear muff earphones.

Kudos.

... what especially captured me in this one ... is what I took to be the 'historical sound to present sound" musicial stylings ... which says ... the message is the message ... it's been there for a long long while ... just expressed differently in music througout the times .... nice job Mr. DJFT! Like the late great Dr. once said .... "I have a dream" ... let's hope that during OUR lifetime that dream finds fruition !

This is phenomenal!!! And you are, as always, very provocative in your messages. McBoss Kennedy's lyrics are awesome!, and the recycled parts really work perfectly with all the rest - past and present -the future uncertain in this world you describe so well.
Top Ten rating picks (#3) You shine like a million stars out on a clear night in the desert, Ben. :-)

very reverent to the roots of the tune - Mr Gaye and Mr. Mayfield. Excellent work from the two of you on a short schedule - very rich. The guitar at the end reminds me of a jazz cat named Pat Martino.

I had a chance to listen to this track a lot more since I posted a comment here... and I have to say, this is one of the best tracks on Macjams. Seriously, this is amazing. The tremolo on the soul singing really makes for some quality "vocal candy". Can't get enough. And the lyrics paint an image in my mind that might never be forgotten, how much hardship the African Americans went through and still do.
I had a near tragedy in my immediate family recently, and this song really hit a nerve in that area for me because I can relate with the sense of loneliness and hardship.

Overall, incredible song- this might be my single favorite song of all time.
