Description:
Analogapalooza entry #1 (if I have enough guts after this to enter another).
Recorded solo in my apartment on St. Mark's Place in NY's East Village 1977 (across the street from the picture above. Live to stereo cassette in my apartment. Sony TCD5M portable cassette deck and two Sony ECM 220 mics. Sekova crappy Japanese hollow body electric guitar and Silvertone amp - both from 1967.
I think I was trying to be Patti Smith. Thanks to the VMF for giving me this opportunity to air my dirty laundry. Nothing was done to clean up this track.

Nice blast fro the past. Wow, I really love hearing what you were doing before people were doing this kinda stuff!
I guess the Violent Femmes were listening to you, because they stole your sound! Great stuff bud! A little Lou Reed-ish too.
I hope you post some more.
Man, I wish I lived down the street from you.
bud
You campin' or crashin' in your car? I heard this killer spandex band over on stage three - trippin time warp man.
I seriously appreciate you commenting on this tune here - it's the earliest thing I could find that wasn't a cover. Violent Femmes? - didn't think about that. Thanks.

Bud, you have it goin on. No drugs, but the music is loud and clear. Cool lyrics and a raw soulful performance. You put yourself out there.
Silvertone amps rule... still got that one? I bet its worth money now!!
bud
so is the guitar - it was really lousy to begin with. I got it when I sat on my clarinet and broke it when I was twelve. Thanks for stopping by.

where all that we could afford. I think the strings on mine where a good 3/4 of a inch off the fretboard.
Cool to be getting a glimps into everyones past
bud
I actually feel kind of naked with this tune out there. Not that the two thoughts are connected.

More than a little of Lou Reed in there.
Interesting lyrics and very exposed!

It's laugh or cringe at the past and I prefer to laugh. Hope you did too. Thanks for commenting.

Add horseshoes and you could have been in Colorado, although the guitar would have been twangier.
bud
you had a radio in Colorado - so you never had to get up. Thanks for stopping by - the same tape this is on has us playing a guitar and blues harp duet. Gimme your user name and password and I'll post it on your page for the Analogapalooza festival. You played a mean harp in '77.

Can't wait to hear it!
Bud I'm jealouse what a song, somethings gotta come from this! Almost sounds like you were gonna laugh at times this is classic did your kids hear this! No drugs no music you said a mouth full!
bud
Well what came from this was another 15 years or so of dissipation - but that's all in the past.
Interesting you should mention my kids. Dylan's at skateboard camp - but I played it for Stella and her band last night and they flipped and made me burn them copies.
She's got a new band and they're pretty hot. A trio this time. In fact they're downstairs practicing right now.
When you gonna post a golden oldie - I know you got plenty from Donny Fury's studio.

Bud- what a gem, man, you can smell your apartment on this track! Great vocal .. the track sounds like a more desperate, youthful howl at 'knocking on heavens door'.
If you told me you wrote it yesterday, I'd still love it.
Great track..... more please.

Dude ...yeah your frickin punk rock ,man . I really love this song Bud . Its like looking at a song picture from the past . I wasnt even born for another year when you made this . Ahhhh Im really digin this Lo Fi contest deal. Downloaded .
bud
77 was very interesting year in NYC. Blackout, Son of Sam, CBGB's, The Bronx are Burning, cheap rents, cops with long hair and mustaches, full car graffitti, sleazy Times Square ... I could go on and on. The whole place was punk rock.

That's when VH1 will air the documentary NY77 The Coolest Year In Hell that i shot this winter and spring. It was directed by Academy Award nominee Nanette Burstein who made The Kid Stays In The Picture - a good doc about the producer Robert Evans.

But more to the point, not only am I jealous of the song, I'm jealous you still have the TAPES.

in the 70's i couldn't get enough music (or those other things either!)
now i feel like i'm drowning in music: processed, packaged, & promoted.
god, i miss the 70's.
thanks for the memories

bangs home. Music is PRODUCT now, audio Velveeta (does that stuff still exist?) that has absolutely nothing of the human need to create (or listen to) music.
Funny, we might want to hide our 'vintage' tunes thinking they're embarrassing, but isn't it amazing how we can hear the fire and love for music in them? Bad singing, clumsy guitar chords, tape hiss, it's all there but they fade from importance as the decades pass and we can hear the sheer excitement at actually being musicians! I'm in your apartment here, cold beer in hand, and grinning like I've come home to a long-lost place I used to know so well.
bud
made by driven young musicians - you just gotta dig deeper. True that the cream at the top of the charts is pretty soulless product, but if MJ is any indication the love of music is alive and healthy.
Micael2 posted a pretty good list of music worth hearing in the forum recently.
Thanks for stopping by my sixth floor walk-up - and good catch when I threw the key out the widow wrapped in a sock. Thanks for bringing the beer too.

Definately Femmes and Jonathan Richmond, pre- Richmond era. Cool.

from my wife after the Sean Penn character's line in Fast Times at Ridgemount High - "Hey Bud, let's party!" Close enough I guess.

And we smoked ahum, drank scuse me and slept a hole through the day. I love the tapefeel and the honesty. Not really a modern daychart climber, but I found a memory-treasure nonetheless. Hihihihi, the end is cool. Cheers bro!
