Description:
I got new gadget! Guitar Rig 2!! Yay!
So here's the first song I recorded with GR2!

Also, I wrote this song for a music contest, which submission is due August 10. Any advice as to how I can improve the song? Many thanks!

Oh and Englefield Green is the name of the village in Surrey, England where I lived for a year.

Lyrics:
Englefield Green

How long has it been going on?
I can't feel anything I've become numb
PC monitor dimly lits my otherwise dark bedroom

You are half the world away
My darkness is your light
Time tells us apart
Another sleepless night is dying

Listen carefully
Can't you hear its calling me?
Whoa whoa

I will be going back to Englefield Green
Get it back
Those loud days we spent together
I'm trying to be myself I used to be
If I find Just a piece of me
I would be able to restore myself

I'm picking up my battered suitcase
Running like mad in the quiet street
I'm starting all over again
If I stay, I'm fading away
(I'm starting over again)
If I go back to that place
(I'm starting over again)
where I find the fire
(I'm starting over again)
Will I find the answer?
Will I see what I've been missing?

Listen carefully
Can't you hear its calling me?
Whoa whoa

I'm on my way back to Englefield Green
I'm getting back
the crazy days we started together
I'm trying to be myself I used to be
Just a piece of me
I would be able to restore myself if I find it

wow thanks! &mdash 08/03/07 - 03:10:15 AM
im so glad that you liked this song!
usually, alternative rock is the kind of music id listen
to on my iPod. but whenever i write songs for myself to sing, it would end up sounding more general pop music.
but thanks to Guitar Rig 2, i think i got more edge into it than usual.
cheers!

Another excellent song JH &mdash 08/02/07 - 04:18:42 PM
Now I understand why your English is so good. Guitar Rig 2 sounds like it was meant for you to play with ;) All your tunes have an incredible pop feel. This one combines really good lyrics (I spent a year living in an English village too) with really classy playing and production. I hope this does well in the contest - I can't think of any way to improve it.
Good luck,
Neil

This is a WINNER... &mdash 08/03/07 - 12:57:55 PM
no matter how it fares in the contest.

Top-notch production and musical sensibilities... very well done.

My only advice is be careful with your new toy (Guitar Rig 2). Edgy can be a good thing when used sparingly, but don't forget or neglect all the other musical tones available.

For example, since you asked for suggestions... in the rousing first chorus, the guitars are edgy and driving... but a simple clean guitar or keyboard chord progression would add some interesting texture and contrast to that section.

But it's really a minor suggestion to a really nice piece of work that features a lot of interesting elements.

Rock On! my friend. ;)

JH, you write stellar POP tunes. Always on the money. Hooks that stay stuck and a large vibrant mix. Good to hear anytime/anywhere. the varied drums, synth pads and pro production are just tops in my book

What a great song. Nicely mixed/produced and VERY catchy!

This brought back some memories as funnily enough I used to live in Englefield Green when I was small. My grandparents had a house there. My grandmother and my mother used to work in Holloway Hospital which is not far and every Sunday we went off to the church where my grandmother had made many of the kneelers still there today.
I went to the local primary school for a while too...
