Description:
Another one from my archives for "analogapalooza"- this time I go back to 1987. Again I wasn't the main composer of this.
Recorded on a Fostex 4-track reel-2-reel we borrowed. (I actually have 2 versions of this, went for the one I'm playing guitar and singing a bit on!)
Chris Craig: composition, arrangement, sequencing, synths, recording, mixing
Louise: vocals
Alan (apb): guitar, backing vocals, lyrics, bit of arranging.
© 1987 Chris Craig, used with permission.
Lyrics:
You said your leavin', deceivin'
Leavin', leavin', deceivin', deceivin'
Tired of endless nights,
but there's nothing I can do,
Said you didn't need me,
But there's nothing I can do,
But if you hold onto me,
Then you won't hurt so much,
I want to feel your touch.
Let it all fade away.
Let it all fade away.
I just can't stop believin',
That you won't be mine again,
Cry myself to sleep at night,
I'm going round the bend.
Hardware:
Atari ST 510 running Cubase v1,
Kawai K1, Roland Juno-x (hmm dunno)
Roland TR626 drum machine (I think?)
Epiphone guitar.
Software:
Cubase v1 for the Atari,
GBv3 recorded into from casette.

this is so 80's!
i love it!
takes me back to the days when a "casio" was all that!
great song, great arrangement!
very nice! [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Jason .. &mdash 08/04/07 - 06:11:16 AM
this song is very, very 80's - we were just emulating bands from the early 80's. I had a giant Casio digitial watch with a calculator on it .. hahahah. This song is a bit interesting (for me) as it features the 'sounds' from the Kawai K1 I still have and use, but just as a mother keyboard so far (I bought it from Chris in fact). I also have the TR-626 drum machine ..
going up in value .. the Juno had very nice sounds .. I checked some models .. but they all looked like the one we
borrowed for this from another friend ..we'ld need to track
him down to get a definitive answer which model of Juno it was, I guess the model is one out pre- 1987.
Glad you enjoyed this. [ Reply to This ]

REaly cool to share this The sound brings me back! Louise sounds great! Some cool leading in there ! [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Tim &mdash 08/04/07 - 06:19:01 AM
your back! :o) I cringe a bit listening to the lead in this ..
Chris wouldn't let me use any distortion :o( .. so the result
is a bit twangy/twiddly, not quite what I intended.
Louise did have a sweet voice .. in fairness she just did this
in a couple of takes .. and missed a bit coming in .. and
we ironically 'faded' her out a bit quick at the end. *doh*
I'm tempted to post the 'raw' sequence track I have as well of this .. as it's better from a recording perspective . but has no guitar, vocals, extra bass line ARP ..
Shows off Chris' excellent sequences/drum programming. Maybe next years 'analogapalooza'. :o) [ Reply to This ]
very cool &mdash 07/31/07 - 07:12:06 PM
arrangement, melody, structure, execution...
Could really be a rocker these days -- needs an update, and probably got the personnel around here to pull it off: chick voices, killer bass and drums, etc. Food for thought. Glad you pulled it out.
Atari & Cubase v1, huh? Pretty impressive. [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Stephen &mdash 08/03/07 - 08:57:03 AM
.. it does have some good ideas in it .. and wicked fast
arpeggiated sequence, Chris was always a dab-hand at doing
those: influenced by Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Howard Jones, Eurasure to name a few. Perhaps if I ask him nicely,
I could try a remix of this. Speaking of which .. still not
got much further on "Rebecca's sixths" yet... been a bit
caught up in a few too many things. [ Reply to This ]

.. I just crack up because of the ending .. with the lyric and
us fading out too fast .. cutting poor Louise off mid-line ..
oh the irony .. lol ..
still an enjoyable piece .. I should maybe re-vamp it .. see
how it sounds? (with permission of course)... I wonder if he
has a 3.5" disk with the midi sequence files on it in his loft somewhere... hmm .. [ Reply to This ]
3.5" Discs &mdash 07/13/08 - 10:49:11 AM
Alan, I think i've still got the discs, do you want the files if I can find them?
I'd love to here a new version of this with the original programming that I did. [ Reply to This ]
Hej! Look who is here !! &mdash 07/13/08 - 05:43:18 PM
:o) - excellent Chris .. glad you signed up. I would love the
disks if you can find 'em. I sent you a Note thing. (see your

glad you liked it - I only have a few earlier recordings ..
but they are *really* much more embarassing .. and as such
I feel I would need to consult all parties involved before
posting online. [ Reply to This ]
I love Louise's voice on this &mdash 08/01/07 - 04:55:23 PM
she's got that great innocent 80's kid voice - before the business was taken over warbling drama queens. Great Miami Vice production with the synth stabs. And once again - some tasty guitar playing. [ Reply to This ]
Thanks bud &mdash 08/03/07 - 09:06:28 AM
Chris asked her if she would give it a go after hearing her sing karaoke one night .. she was a kid but so were we! We didn't really know her that well. Iffy if she was
of legal age to drink .. we would've been around 17/18 at the time we did this and she about 1 year younger than us.
Still got that Atari .. used it later
for some demos and glad I kept it .. used the sequences exported as .mid files and imported into GB for some of my
uploads now, like "face" .. and used as base for some others
too. [ Reply to This ]
Very interesting creation &mdash 08/02/07 - 09:50:46 AM
A very interesting creation. Good grove and drive.
A great vocalist too. You don't happen to have her in your band of today? [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Cori &mdash 08/03/07 - 09:00:16 AM
all credit to the composer really. I didn't do much...
we hired Louise from hearing her sing kareoke at a local
bar .. and we are not even sure her name was Louise .. we
believe so. lol .. so no contact with her since, so no
possibility to have her as a singer now I'm afraid. [ Reply to This ]
A Timeless Message &mdash 08/10/07 - 07:09:50 AM
Hey! You "let" it all fade away pretty darn quickly! This is, as everyone has acknowledged, a really nice example of 80's pop... including the timeless message of easing the pain of break-up through dancing/romancing with strangers... yeah!
Really great stuff here! [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Clark &mdash 08/11/07 - 05:55:25 AM
.. this is one of my earliest experiences working with computers to do music really, with sequencing sw. Very nostalgic for Chris and I .. he was glad to have a digital copy of it. Yup, we hadn't quite mastered 'fade-outs' ..was ironic considering what Louise was singing ..thank goodness for track volume automation points!
If I cleaned up the backing track version I have (pre-bass ARP, vocals, guitars and slightly slower) ... I could re-vamp it in GB using that backing as a base...I'm sure Chris wouldn't mid .. but best ask to be sure. :o) [ Reply to This ]
is that you &mdash 08/13/07 - 05:04:40 PM
doing backing vocals? sounds so cute. she has a really sweet voice, too. and hey, if she had a Japanese accent, this could be a hit today in an anime about street racing - Initial D anyone? [ Reply to This ]
:o) &mdash 08/14/07 - 04:28:42 AM
.. at the beginning, yes, 'tis moi... dunno why I didn't sing
at the return bit .. lots of well shakey voices .. no reverb..
totally raw .. and Louise I recall did her vocals all in one-take, after very little practice.. as we weren't any good with drop-ins :o) .. so young and naive... lol.
It certainly has potential: I recall when I first re-discovered this recording about 6 years ago .. that on
listening then with ears that had forgotten it completely ..
I was quite chuffed with what we achieved... "it's not bad at
all" I said .. :o)
Just need a singer with a Japanese accent huh? Where are
the Sumo sisters when you need 'em ... ;o)
Glad you enjoyed this blast from the past. [ Reply to This ]

it is well written, well performed. it is like taffy. it is sweet. and when it all fades away, you desire more. 0x0 [ Reply to This ]
Very cool &mdash 12/29/07 - 07:27:44 AM
song. I could pick out some things I'm not particular about but what would be the point. This is made in '87! By that measurement this is pretty damn fine! [ Reply to This ]
Thanks .. &mdash 12/29/07 - 11:41:07 AM
.. it has it's charm. Indeed, many things I would consider changing but that really wasn't the point of 'analogapalooza'. More to share some old recordings, as they were, show your humble roots/beginnings etc. I was 17/18 years old, as was the composer. My earliest multi-track recording.
Thanks for your continued support, much appreciated- I've only improved marginally since then ..lol. [ Reply to This ]
