Description:
I bought an acoustic guitar to record and perform with live. It's a very nice instrument that was very reasonably priced. It is made from an exotic african wood called african zebrawood, and it is really african looking. Like a folk painting.

I've named the guitar Nelson after a hero of mine, Mr Mandella. This is a song i wrote for another hero of mine, Big John Croft.

I am playing with all fingers here, no picks. both tracks are single first takes....

I am very excited to play live with my own acoustic!

To all in the community, please accept this song as an apology for my earlier angry outburst. Nothing good ever happens when you loose your temper.

Hardware:
Ibenez EW20
2 akg mics
behringer mixer
mobile pre

Nelson :) &mdash 08/03/07 - 02:43:31 AM
Nelson sounds just beautiful Fran - has a really individual sound, that's for sure - and if that's him in the photo then I'm really impressed. Ed will be pleased to have his guitar back, and you must be really happy with your new friend. Oh, your playing .... sounds full of soul as usual.
Cheers,
Neil

Especially in this acoustic incarnation... &mdash 08/03/07 - 07:05:17 AM
...this tune continues to show how far blues can go in the direction of being lyrical and melodic, and in conveying more than just a monochromatic feeling...

I think you're getting a nice, bright tone on this. Is this all done with the two AKGs, or is the pick-up mixed in there, too?

Your playing is great, as usual...

Ed

Zebrawood extraordinaire; singular takes &mdash 08/03/07 - 07:46:33 AM
Wonderful. Its not often some who is so good with a pick is also fabulous with his fingertips. We are blessed in this community to hear the likes of you and McBoy and thetiler and others. Thank you for not running away from the challenges of acoustic playing and community. Encore!

Cool playing &mdash 08/03/07 - 10:58:23 AM
Both laid back/casual and high-energy. I like the Franetic soloing. Zetes, your playing kicks ass!

Goodness Gracious.... &mdash 08/03/07 - 11:06:15 AM
and I mean that in the truest sence of the words... sooo very good... I love the eitherial vibe in your electric stuff... and you somehow retain that in this piece... your chord voicings are so tasty... I know several authentic blues player who don't demonstrate the kind of subtle chordal knowledge that you display here... and your guitar sounds killer... it cuts through... nice and crisp... while keeping a full spectrum of frequencies alive... and none of that boom that acoustics often force us to deal with

a seriously great recording, by a great player

angry outburst? &mdash 08/03/07 - 11:35:33 AM
I missed your earlier angrier outburst... but if it yields such wonderful music, I'm willing to forgive. Some wonderful playing. Well recorded. And what a beautiful instrument! Is it actually made in Africa? And if so, what part? Last time I was in Africa, everyone was playing Ibanez guitars... not very exotic at all (at least by my understanding of exotic).

I expect nothing less.. &mdash 08/03/07 - 11:45:56 AM
You set the bar high for yourself, and I find myself never being disappointed by your performance artistry, and your recording skills... crisp and clean. You seem to have taken to acoustic so easily. Sweetness. Interesting that you have a guitar made of zebrawood. Several years ago, while my father still had his health, I bought some zebrawood blocks, along with purple-heart (another fantastic wood) and epoxied them into a big block, and my dad & I worked on his lathe to turn it into a gorgeous wooden goblet (my wife & kids all got a chance to make their own goblets with him as well). I'll have to send you a photo sometime. In the mean time, I raise my zebrawood to toast your zebrawood :-)

Drakonis

Hi Mr. Master &mdash 08/06/07 - 01:41:50 AM
Hi Mr. Master! You are growing to be a just great acoustic guitarist!
This is fantastic. Quite a hot performance which is cool at the same time. Only a player with huge experience can do this.

Such an interesting guitar! Have never seen anything the like. Zebrawood!!!

The recording has quite an edgy treble, is that the guitars natural sound?

That's a beautiful sound... &mdash 08/06/07 - 11:20:44 AM
...from your new friend, Fran. Sounds great. Both tracks. First takes makes it that much sweeter.

Kudos, buddy.

I can visualise you playing this piece now.Leaning slightly over the guitar body and occasionally looking at the neck ,some times closing your eyes to blend yourself even more into the notes and playing as effortlessly as this piece sounds . Beautiful! Thanks for sharing this with us. Gerry
