Nice entrance &mdash 08/16/07 - 11:01:01 AM
Welcome to Macjams... I like this. It has a bit of the cold winter feel, but the cellos/strings warm it up a bit. The only thing that I felt was out of place was the percussion... the hand-clapping & drum-beats probably could be completely dropped and this would sound better.

Did you play the piano here? Or write the notes in? A really nice piece of music.
ttfn,
Drakonis

Piano &mdash 08/16/07 - 01:12:39 PM
Yes, I wrote and played the piano parts. I have to admit, I don't play drums and have very little experience in writing percussion parts to go along with my pieces. I'm just trying to gain experience in that area (along with others) so I can get better. Any suggestion on improving the percussion, or do you think that just removing it altogether would be better? As of now, all I have to use is the drumkits that my keyboard and garageband have to offer (tight budget w/ college and everything). Let me know what you think and thanks for the comments.

For some snowflakes &mdash 08/17/07 - 09:08:11 PM
this is a fairly heavy sounding track. Good sounding, but I don't see the title fitting it.

The combination of that piano part and the strings has a nice dark mood, and the drums fit it, but I agree with Drakonis that that hand clap is a bit obnoxious. Can you find some deep sounding snare, and then put a mondo big reverb over the drums? They need to sound biiiiiiggggg for a track like this.

Victor.

Beautiful and Hainting &mdash 08/23/07 - 07:43:02 PM
This music has a haunting sound to it that I really like it a lot. It flows over the listeners and envelops them, drawing them into the piece.

As to improving it, you could try replacing the hand clap with just a simple snare drum stick sound. It would define the texture of the rhythm without sounding out of place. Another thing that would help to hold the rhythm together would be the use of a stand up Bass to accentuate the drums and put a little more bottom end into the piece.

All and all an excellent piece of work on your part, thank you for sharing it with us.

And again , as Drakonis said welcome to MacJams

The piano is absolutely charming. What a talent! Like the others said, tone down the clapping into a snare, perhaps. Or take the drums out. Otherwise... you could pull off some supreme drama if you made the drums MASSIVE and got those cellos throbbing away at full blast. The song would probably make me cry then. It already came close.

This is my favorite song of the four you've submitted. By far.

Thanks &mdash 01/23/08 - 12:46:23 PM
For the last few comments guys, I really appreciate it. I'm in the process of updating the drums so they don't sound so bland. I'll definitely try some of the suggestions you guys mentioned. Thanks again!
