Description:
For Analogapalooza. Mastered May 7, 1976

Lyrics:
LET ME GO

Look above
The sun erasing the final star
I got my things
Packed away in my car

The highway calls my name
But I can tell it'll never be the same

I should've said
Goodbye -- or something
But if I did
I couldn't leave

My lady she let me go
But why she did I'll never know

On the road
My heart carried a heavy load
There's nothing left
No reason to go on

My lady she let me go
But why she did I'll never know

(c)1976 Bill Grundmann

this is a really nice ballad.

Your vocals are superb. The falsetto....can you do that still after all these years?

great tune &mdash 08/04/07 - 03:38:49 PM
really nice rendition, too, especially for 1976.
all aspects, actually, are excellent. Enjoyable. Makes me feel like I'm back then, in my old veedub doing the same thing.

Smokey this is superb &mdash 08/04/07 - 10:46:33 PM
Truth is - I'm not sure that we get any better as we get older or just different. This track is so excellent - and would make David Crosby so jealous. Let me guess - you were also totally into If I Could Only Remember My Name. Great lead guitar - and of course - stellar vocals.

for posting a great tune and bringing back some feelings/memories from a time long ago. The bass notes on the electric are perfect.

This is cool, Bill &mdash 08/06/07 - 04:40:46 PM
...hearing you sing something recorded 31 years ago! And it's not even sad that she left, because you ended up with the right girl. :-) Very nicely done, and I love the harmony.

how did you know about that? you are, of course, exactly right. i met my wife-to-be Barb a couple of years after this song... and we're still together and still very happy...

strangely enough, i wrote this song about 6 months *before* my fiance and i broke up. i really believed (and still do believe, to some extent) in premonitions.

the actual source of the emotional energy for this song came from my memory of almost running away from home. that might've been a year or two before then. just substitute "lady" with "Mommy"... weird, eh?

How did I know? &mdash 08/08/07 - 10:57:00 AM
Just by reading between the lines of your songs/poetry pieces. :-) Funny, your remark about premonition reminded me that Richard Shindell wrote _Are You Happy Now_ before the break up with the girl. When she heard the song, it probably precipitated the breakup.

I love this place!

I haven't listened here in a very long time. Of all the songs I could have listened to, how strange I picked this ONE. Very nice. How strange to hear your voice.

Everybody's sayin' it... &mdash 08/06/07 - 06:54:07 PM
...analog is love...

This reminds me of a the aforementioned Crosby album, and also bits of the first America album and the first Aztec Two-Step....

I love the melody, the guitar playing and the vocals... The chord progression has a great feel to it...

Reminds me of "recording sessions" in the apartment with two mics and a four track...or a two track... 1978 for me, though...

I really like this, Bill...

I like this very much. Great harmony and lyrics. Reminds me of Seals and Crofts. Brings back lots of great memories I had way back in the 70's! :) Loved it! Thanks for sharing.

And how do you think all of us girls &mdash 08/09/07 - 07:28:36 PM
in "the group" felt when you left all of us a few years before that and went off to college, Sweet Thang! :-) You had your destiny to meet - in your wonderful wife of thirty somthin' years. You broke some hearts yourself back in the day, dearheart! :-) Lookin' a lot like a Rock n' Roll Star with that beautiful long dark hair and guitar of yours - so sweet and innocent :-)
This is such a beautiful and poignant song, and the vocals are pure perfection to my ears!!! Thanks, as always, for the beautiful CSN&Y memories, dearheart.

Crosby &mdash 08/17/07 - 12:12:00 AM
David crosby comes to my mind.
The opening minor chords with the lead playing over it reminds me of the old
'if only i could remember my name' album
nice playing on the soloing
your harmoney is very well done. Tight.
my favorite of the three

of the three songs that i a dug up for Analogapalooza, this is the only one that i occasionally would remember at odd moments over the years. it was nice to find it among the old tapes... like finding an old friend.

thank you
