Description:
I had written the lyrics months ago, and recently asked Jack (Dadai) if he’d be willing to create a melody and sing the male part. He agreed, and he just happened to have a melody without words. They went together with just a bit of rephrasing, and here is the collab. Jack plays the guitar and piano. Thank you, Jack! This one is dedicated to the newlyweds here at MacJams.
Lyrics:
As You Walk With MeWhen I woke up this mornin'
Didn’t know what to say
Sometimes words seem meaningless
Sometimes they float away
Is there anybody listening
Does anybody really care?
My feelings scattered on the wind
Am I crying, am I crying to the air?
When I woke up this morning
Didn’t know what to do
Another day, another dollar
The rewards seem so few
Got the world pullin at me
Still I must stand strong
Gotta try to make a difference
In a world , in a world that has gone wrong
And together we can make it
We can walk thru any door
Love has so many faces
And I’m not always sure, but
As you walk with me
I know what life is for
Many lessons to be learned
To give yourself is one
To trust another with your heart
Forgive with the setting sun
To get back up and give again
When heartaches come along
Learn to embrace the things that count
And to sing, sing a hopeful song
Many lessons to be learned
To stay, and not to run
When disappointment falls on me
And my shoulders weigh a ton
To be the man I know I can be
In a world so full of strife
Wanna make a difference for you to see
Make a difference with you in this life
And together we can make it
We can walk thru any door
Love has so many faces
And I’m not always sure
But as you walk with me
I know what life is for
I know what life is for
I know what life is for
Life is for love

for your generous comment and for sharing your heart with us. Making a commitment like this isn't easy, and it takes patience to wait for the trust to develop. Just keep being real with each other and love will find a way. :-)

I love this song and I sure hope I can married me now when I go to my love in U.S.... Or maybe we have to wait (and only have a mini wedding) too much paper work with the laws make it hard for us so we maybe not can do it right this trip... But we sure come to work hard to have or wedding.
Thank you so much for post this lovely song.
You2 have done one of the beautiful songs I heard in a long time.
I LOVE IT.
Take care

way your voices blend on this nice melody. Individually you both sound great and there's a very nice sentiment in those really nice lyrics. Very gentle and relaxing. Only one little thought, that maybe a very gentle slow latin type beat might be good in the background (just me), regards M
Roxylee
Hmmm... I can hear how a latin rythmn would be very interesting here... I'll have to ask Ian or Bill in on a song sometimme. Thank you for listening and for your input. :-)

for all the great comments. I really appreciate your taking the time to listen and give feedback. I'm on my way out and will be out all day, so I can't comment back yet. Seeya later, and thanks again to Jack for doing this collab with me. :-)
... thank you. Adding some music to your words was a pleasure. Especially to lyrics about marriage and the commitment of love that it takes to make a marriage grow.

drakonis
Love it... hints of Joan Baez here. Roxylee, you are really beginning to show off your great talent for lyrics and singing, better and better with each song. The work and benefits of a relationship, nicely framed... "Life is for Love" indeed! Jack, gorgeous backing music/playing, and your voice and Roxylee's really melt together nicely on this. Roxylee, the mix sounds better on this final version, but the vocals are still a teeny bit muffled... you may have lost some of the high-end sparkle on the recording, and thus couldn't boost the treble to get it back... but my "butterfly trick" sounds like it helped the overall sound some, this sounds very warm and romantic.
ttfn,
Drakonis
Roxylee
It's funny- people on and off MJ have told me this reminds them of Joan Baez- and it's not surprising, as her music influenced me greatly when I was a teen. Wow, time sure does fly.. anyway, thank you for your audio help, and I'll be bugging you about how to get the muffle out. ( Any audio engineers out there who want to give me some pointers, please feel free. <G>) Thank you for your kind encouragements, and i'm glad you liked this song. Yes, life is for love, or at least it should be. :-)

Nice job, guys. This is a nicely paced ode to togetherness. Simple and effective. A reflection in a space that is far from the maddening din. Nice tickling of the ivories, Jack.
I typed "guys" in slang talk. I should have said, "lady and gentleman" or "Roxylee and Jack". My key-tapping is too hurried sometimes.
Roxy, I listened a second time and must say that your phrasing and tonality are very nice. Like it was mentioned above, Joan Baezque.

Roxylee
Thank you for stopping by! No problem about the "guy" phrase. I use it myself when addressing any group of friends, and I consider you my friend. I wasn't conscously Joaning it, but she's influenced me greatly, so i guess it had to come out sometime. :-)

It amazes and humbles me to think that people all over the world are hearing and liking my songs. As I listen to MJ music from other countries, I forget that my songs might be playing in someone's ear across the world, and it boggles my mind. Thank you, and I'm happy that you like this song. :-)

thanks BW for your enthusiastic comments. It is really something, as Roxylee said, that you (halfway around the world from us) are enjoying this song. Take care and keep up with your fine music.

Roxylee and a Goodwilly! Well sis, you found the perfect collab partner for these great lyrics. This sounds like it's right outta the coffee houses of the late-60's/early-70's. Very nice and persusive vocals...in both the solos and the duets. Great big kudos!
Be well!
My spelling has gone to hell in a handbasket of late (syntax kinda sucks too)! I meant to write: "persuasive."

Roxylee
S'OK, Mike, I knew what you meant. I'm sure I make typos all the time, and don't catch them in time, either. That's why I waited until this morning to start replying to these sweet comments from my fellow musicians. Thank you for all your encouragement, and for the smiles you give us with your cover art. <G>

Maybe we should give Roxylee a guest spot with the Goodwilly's. Might give our crusty band a bit of respect!

DOCTORBIZARRE
An honest critique here. Jack I really like your acoustic strumming and the simple piano lines and your voice fits and convincingly flows in the the piece perfectly. The only thing I am not really digging is the female voice. In certian places it sounds alright but to me isn't really fitting. Maybe it would work as mainly a backup lower in the mix. I would like to hear Jack's voice throughout. Just my honest 2 cents! Nice song!
Biz, thanks for the nice words about my singing and playing, but I got to differ with you on Roxylee's singing... she makes this song IMO. And I think it is one of her best vocal performances. She seals the song, singing the line "To get back up and give again..." Heart and soul through and through.
cheers

Thank you for stopping by and giving an honest opinion. :-) The thing is, this song was written to be sung by a male and a female, so having a make voice throughout wouldn't give it the meaning that I intended. I'm wondering if you don't like my voice in this one, or just not at all. I'd like your opinion of my vox in my last song _Break Out_,for example. Just curious... Yes, Jack did a wonderful job in this duet, as in all his pieces, and i'm glad he sang with me here. :-)
---
I love this place!
that was just gorgeous!
r.l., the way you lay yourself out there vocally - bravely vulnerable and trusting - sounds sooooo good. the emotion transmitted got tear duct outta me. "walk thru any door" - beautiful! jack sounds so nice paired with you - esp at the chorus - your blended voices DO it for me. on the microscopically nitty side, i liked that lazy little piano pattern that ambled thru this, and missed it the measures it didn't. also think "is THERE anybody" in first verse could lose the THERE and flow a teensier easier - no biggie. very nicely done, jack and roxylee. you should be proud!
anne
Roxylee
I'm so glad the emotions got through in this. You know, you inspired me to let my emotions loose in song, instead of just going for the notes, style, or phrasing. You made me realize, through listening to SISTERS, that it's not only OK, but good to let the raw emotions out instead of trying to hold anything back. Thank you for your encouragement and example, and for taking the time to listen and give me pointers. :-)

Much thanks to you both for listening and leaving your thoughts. Roxylee's lyrics struck me as sweet and sad, yet hopeful and determined... an honest place to be.
I appreciate your comments on the chord changes. When I came up with those chords and the melody, I really like it. I didn't want to stick just any words to them. After sitting on the music for q while and trying some different lyric approaches, Roxylee sent me her song lyrics. They fit about as good as I could hope for.

a fine attitude of a tune. The music really makes a great underlayment. Roxy, Jack ya make a fun listening piece of music. This is a terrific newlywed tune that should be heard by all the newlyweds that can possibly be with in an ears reach.
Way to go!
The difficult feelings and questions in Roxylee's lyrics are those bred of honest emotions that spouses can and often do have, and yet they can lead to good directions, stronger commitments, and solid marriages. She wrote a good one!
By the way, don't forget to play this tune for all those Nashville music execs you're always having lunch with!
LOL!
Thanks for stopping in Mr. Bill.
