Description:
My contribution to Analogapalooza 1.
Just the thought of being on the same bill as guitar-slinger Joe Hollywood (J.A. Stewart) was too cool to pass up : >
This piece was preserved for posterity using a Tascam Porta-studio 4-track. Slide guitar on a Korean (or was it Mexican?) Strat. Vocals via a cheap mic.
Lyrics:
There have been times when I felt so impressive
I was sure every eye in the city was watching me
There have been times when I felt so ridiculous
I was sure the whole world must be laughing at me
There have been times when I felt so weak
I was afraid to even hear myself speak
There have been times when I felt so strong
I didn't care whether I was right or wrong
There have been times when I was so uptight
I was absolutely certain nothing would ever work out right
There have been times when I felt so loose
I was apathetic as an easy going goose
There have been times when I felt so perverse I was convinced
I was the most twisted man in the whole universe
There have been times when I felt so damn normal
that it made me want to curse
If I had a choice - you know what I'd do?
I'd take all of these feelings and put them in a jar
I'd place the jar on a rocket
and push the launch button
and shoot them into the sun
Yes, shoot them into the sun

Great lyrics &mdash 08/05/07 - 05:56:56 AM
I special like the lyrics in this song... I think we all can have that feelings I have had many times so I know. Bravo.

I have lots of old band recordings that compare to this in terms of recording quality, and listening to this is a bit of a flashback to the many hours of listening to band practice tapes. Of course, it's seriously lacking in drums tho. It sounds like a street performance, or at the street fair, for example... very live and engaging, like you're singing to an audience. As for the writing, I like it; I would do the same thing. [ Reply to This ]
Development &mdash 08/17/07 - 06:57:37 PM
Almost all of my compositions from these pre-Garageband days lack drums ... and those few exceptions weren't, ah, exceptional in any way.
Percussion remains an area of great development for me when it comes to production. I'm making incremental progress (well, at least I think I am). Who knows - maybe some day I will even get a drum machine?
I've always liked this song, despite its ommissions. However, I can't imagine redoing any of my old material. It is what it is. Or was : > [ Reply to This ]
Lots of Fun! &mdash 02/16/08 - 03:48:04 PM
This is just one of those fun songs that makes ya think about life (but not to seriously). Its cool that you still have your older recordings. Mine are who knows where. Still, this is good stuff. I agree, it needs drums, but I don't re-do much either. Too busy movin on.
Thanks,

re-working &mdash 02/25/08 - 08:52:47 AM
As long as there are new songs to write, I find it practically impossible to return to tweak earlier stuff, especially if considerable time has gone by. On those occasions where I have returned to work on an old song ... usually it turns into something different.
That's for the visit! [ Reply to This ]
Good times! &mdash 02/23/08 - 01:23:41 AM
This is fun. I'm a Tascam Porta user myself. I have the Porta 02. I refuse to give it up even though the tapes are almost impossible to find. You have to special order them now. sigh. In fact, it was the difficulty finding tapes that led me to looking at digital 8 tracks (a huge upgrade from the porta 02), then on to programs for my PC and then to here. But you can't beat those old Portas.
Anyway, this song is tons of fun and I love the riff behind the vocals. I'm torn because I love the vocals and your delivery, but it could also make a fun little instrumental. I could go either way on it. two birds, one stone. Nicely done! [ Reply to This ]
