I just love Steve's vocals &mdash 08/06/07 - 09:04:48 AM
Great combination of talents here. Musically this seems a bit out of norm for you Mr. McBoy, but it all works. Like the synth too.

Nice &mdash 08/06/07 - 09:09:28 AM
Nice tune! Congrats to Echoroom's vocal effort here...he really did an amazing job on what could be considered a complex song over which to sing. I also dig the lyrics, guitar parts, and structure of the tune. Loads of fun contributing bass to this one!! [ Reply to This ]
PS &mdash 08/06/07 - 09:28:24 AM
Tx to McBoy to taking the time to write, arrange, produce and organize all this! Very much appreciated. [ Reply to This ]

Nice nice nice. Steve brings so much to the party. The whole tune captures the ecletic alt feel of the Talking heads, but the solo's put it in a league beyond. [ Reply to This ]
Junkies from the Monkeys! &mdash 08/06/07 - 09:21:07 AM
Jeez guys ... I just did the vocals on saturday, and the song's posted already!? it's really weird hearing the full version of this, but it sounds great ... the bass gives this s great groove, and the guitar work is just awesome.
Despite the fact you cut all my ad-libbing (seriously, good call, nobody wanted to hear THAT!), this actually hangs together lyrically .... but there's a 10 prize for anyone who guesses what it's about!
An awesome piece of work - i love this, and am really happy to be involved ... thanks guys ... anytime!

What's it about.... &mdash 08/07/07 - 07:18:45 AM
I think the story told through the lyrics is generally the creator, or God or whoever one believes in, complaining about the humans! And, it is damn incredible how many little stories you tell and references you make! My personal favorite is the part about humans or man trying to disprove religion or a god-like system of faith and creation through science....like the Illuminati vs. the Church! That is sooooooooo smooth man!!! You have great stories like that throughout the lyrics. But, and this is the only part I did not quite flesh out, what are you saying during the chorus parts that builds into the "cannot do that?" [ Reply to This ]
evolution &mdash 08/07/07 - 07:21:19 AM
Also, what i meant by "complaining" is that the story talks about the evolution of humans and the problems people have created...very clever. [ Reply to This ]
Ok &mdash 08/07/07 - 07:28:06 AM
I am doing a bad job of explaining what the song is about...i am not religious nor am i a religion buff, but there is a form of christianity that believes God created man and then is a non-involved creator, meaning the god is not here controlling us. So, the story is from the first-person...this creator talking about how man is his greatest invention and greatest mistake because he started as an ape, but the creator did not realize how evolution would change things and the "junkies from the monkies" took a turn for the worse. "Should have left the sharks in charge!"
Now, what you wrote in a few lines of lyrics just took me almost 3 pages of text to explain and I did so horribly. [ Reply to This ]
Got it!!! &mdash 08/07/07 - 11:34:32 AM
Hey Drew - yup, this song is about God/The Creator/ buddah/whoever you believe in sitting down and having a little chat with his creation ... and boy, is he disappointed! I kinda tried to disguise this by writing it like a 'break-up' song, but the religious references (rib, Garden of eden) were too strong. The chorus is:
I told thee, only/ I totally own thee (which I thought was funny)
You cannot do that, shall not do that ... The 'shall not' is a reference to the 10 commandments (which of course, we tend to ignore).
'Junkies from the Monkeys' was the first line I got for the song, and suggested the theme.
well done, i owe you a beer!

bowie wowie &mdash 08/06/07 - 10:21:09 AM
There are definitely Bowie sounds in the vox here and there, amazing singing with tricky timing and harmonies. Really cool music and effects, what a powerhouse, love the "rich sparseness". The guitar solos were great fun, and brought me waaay back to high school. But what should I expect from Drew, Mcboy, Zman and Echoroom all together in my head? Perfection? Why, YES! Wow.

All round quality musicanship and vocals... I can hear the Bowie in there with Steve's voice...and a bit of 70's pop proggers Be Bop Deluxe (featuring guitar supremo Bill Nelson)

Funnily enough... &mdash 08/06/07 - 03:44:43 PM
... he was in the vocal booth next to me when i did this! Usually i don't get it when people say i sound like Bowie but ... i do this time! Hells teeth, I could sing anything with these guys doing the backing, and it'd sound great! These guys really know how to rock!

Man I do love a good collab! This is stellar. Possibly Steve's best vocal ever. Really tasty guitar work and groovin bass. Color me blown away gentlemen! I hope you'll combine your talents once again. You're just too damn good together not to!

Hot! &mdash 08/06/07 - 06:17:56 PM
this is one hell of a collab. Loving this. Top notch musicianship. Excellent bass and lead. I am loving the addition of the synths...gives it an 80's new wave kind of feel. Steve your vocals are awesome and as usual your lyrical skills are far beyond great. Great work guys. DO MORE! [ Reply to This ]
Collabs rule!! &mdash 08/06/07 - 07:01:26 PM
I can certainly vouch for the enjoyment/satisfaction of doing collabs - as I'm sure all the players here can. Excellent performances all round here, and a solid production to boot. Steve, you must be buzzing!!

greatest mistake &mdash 08/06/07 - 08:37:22 PM
is you guys post early in the day, i get here late and look like a ' lude.
Not only transcends some Bowie and Heads but there are moments of Deep Purple as well.
The swelled guitars was a cool feature, I'll have to figure that one out.
And Steve's vocals... well we could throw rose pedals at him all day.
Rythm is solid and 2 lead guitarists...that's classic rock! [ Reply to This ]
Now this is a combo &mdash 08/06/07 - 09:14:46 PM
I like the arrangement how its almost stripped down but then in comes that effected guitar that gives it a fullness, LEads on this are top notch great talent fellas great song! [ Reply to This ]
Cooking On Gas &mdash 08/07/07 - 05:14:06 AM
Cool guitar sounds here. Love it. Like the choppy guitrs especially, and there's definitely some Pink Floyd in that solo isn't there? Bowie, Byrne, Dave Gilmour - pretty good supergroup!
Although I'm sure Steve is Brett Anderson in disguise. Whatever happened to Suede?
Excellent collab folks.

AWWWW! &mdash 08/07/07 - 01:40:50 PM
This is what happens when the best of the best come together! Awesome, from the very first note of the rhythm and vocals.... a very very infectious beat and killer production! Very 80's, and that is the era when music was really music. Guitar is delicious. You can just lick this song all over and still want more. More from you guys.
I was hoping to get home from vacation first, but I managed to sneek and totally enjoy this on someone's computer... and i gotta write my review while the taste still lingers in my brain. [ Reply to This ]
It is always a great surprise &mdash 08/07/07 - 03:31:12 PM
When you get to hear the finished product of one of McBoy's creations. I haven't heard Steve's or Drew's additions until today. Steve, amazing job. Drew, I must apologize I%u2019ve been stuck down in New Orleans for a week and I%u2019m listening on a laptop where you%u2019re bass can%u2019t be appreciated like it should. I promise I%u2019ll crank it when I get home. And lastly McBoy thanks again for letting me be a part of this collab, totally different feel from what I%u2019m used to and it feels and sounds great. Can%u2019t say enough about the mix, arranging and playing. [ Reply to This ]

And this turns out to be a real solid bit of songcraft into the bargain... Structure... Yeah, great guitar solos...
And the thing that steals the show ends up being that vocal from echoroom...

Lots of interesting textures and sideroads in this piece. Well-played and performed by all.
With a new title and a little boost in tempo it could easily morph into a cool DEVO tune... Mondo Macho lol
A lot of fun. ;)

Cool &mdash 08/08/07 - 07:29:40 PM
Got some real top notch musicians on this but it's the vocal that really gives this life- excellent!
I've heard comparisons to the Talking Heads and Bowie but to me the vocal sounds similiar to Gregory Darling of formerly of Darling Cruel and now a solo performer. Not a bad thing- I think he's got a very unique voice.
Great job fellers.... [ Reply to This ]
Hey Mr C &mdash 08/09/07 - 02:10:06 AM

a thought through groove &mdash 08/11/07 - 04:22:45 PM
The simple, open drum pattern offers room for the guitars and bass to move around. And a catchy groove it has become. Good rock'n roll build up of the song.
Great work from everyone involved. [ Reply to This ]
A galaxy of stars... &mdash 08/11/07 - 06:34:03 PM
Ders nothing milky about these ways...
Do you guys ever do anything in a small way...
Either one of you, individually, you blow me away.
Together... - you blow me light years away.
Steve, the vocals are superb...
The g'tars... lead...rhythm...solo and OTHERWISE... Definitely orbiting in the apogee.
The bass... Drew... Always a pleasure to hear you romping things close to ground.
The drumn' aint too bad either.
Excellent writing and a pretty swell production, too!
All is VERY good!
Thanks! [ Reply to This ]

What a great find.
I love the way you got Steve in here. The sound of his voice works so well with this sound.
The guitar solos are both real fine. I dig it when you dig in with such emotion.
The second solo a different feel. They marry together to make a real hip break.
Nice guitar in the fade/both sounds mixin up and fade...
