Description:
a Disney style ballad about believing in oneself- aren't all Disney movies about that? ;)
Lyrics:
VERSE 1
Look at me.
I’ve been waiting for this moment.
Can I say I know that I’ve arrived?
I’ve been searching,
Been dreaming of this moment:
No better time than now to be alive.
PRE-CHORUS
Seasons may change; days go on by,
But something deep inside will never die…
CHORUS
Now I see all that I can be.
There’s nothing I can’t do
Holding to a heart that’s true
I see all that I can be
You had faith in me, believed in me,
Now I’m better than I ever was before: I’m breaking free.
VERSE 2
I’ve been lost,
Been looking for answers,
Wond’ring if I’d ever find my way.
Life’s a journey
To the heart of what matters:
The promise of tomorrow’s in today.
PRE-CHORUS
Seasons may change; days go on by,
But something deep inside will never die…
CHORUS
Now I see all that I can be.
There’s nothing I can’t do
Holding to a heart that’s true
I see all that I can be
You had faith in me, believed in me,
Now I’m better than I ever was before: I’m breaking free.
BRIDGE
I taught myself to be strong
Though at times I felt I couldn’t carry on.
Carry on…
CHORUS
Now I see all that I can be.
There’s nothing I can’t do.
Holding to a heart that’s true
I see all that I can be.
You had faith in me, you believed in me,
Now I’m better than I ever was before.
I’m better than I ever was before: I’m breaking free…

Boy, you sure do post stuff from every genre. Strong writing. Your vocalist has a marvelous voice. (Who is she?) Perhaps the effects give her a false flanged lisp. I loved the classic modulations, the ebb and flow of the arrangement, the use of organ. What is the story behind this tune? Some of the rubato passages seemed less smooth than my ears wanted, was this directed in a studio setting or was the music bed laid down before the singer got there? I can see this tune in a Disney version of Anna Akhmatova's life or something like that. Very well done. [ Reply to This ]

Thank you for the generous compliments- Hmm- I guess I just wanted to write a story song that could stand on its own, ie not plot-specific. The vocalist is a girl that I coached vocally- the lisp is part of her charm. :) I wanted anyone to be able to relate to the song's message also - ages 5- 95. So I have other songs in this genre that hopefully I can pitch to Disney through some connections. There's always more work to be done. :)

I have a pet theory &mdash 08/06/07 - 10:08:30 PM
that everyone has the a priori ability to do everything; it's simply a matter of being able to dial up the internal 'perception filter' necessary for the task at hand. You've got a direct line to a lot of those filters.
I'll be very happy for you if you manage to shake some shekels from the Disney tree!
Press on, friend. [ Reply to This ]

DJ,
This is great. You certainly have a shot at the Disney genre. This nails it. Down to the crescendo breaks at the end. So I guess you teach? I was wondering after listening to a couple of your songs if you play all the instruments yourself? I heard some GB piano loops here and there. But the axe's in your ROCK song are shredding. You are a very versatile man. Looking forward to more. [ Reply to This ]
thx racerat &mdash 09/13/07 - 06:10:29 PM
yes i do teach - here and there i've utlitized some GB piano loops- actually just on "Thumpin'" - which is runway House electronica. the rest is completely of my own invention. No i don't play all the instruments - that's a real string quartet on my adagio- but when it comes to the arrangements - then yes, it's all just me and the synth- and of course the works for solo piano are the real deal- no loops on "Dawn" -
thx for the compliments on the versatility of my work. I pride myself on that.
