Description:
Where?
Upon the great Erie. We stayed on the tiny Island of Pelee in the middle of the lake, the southern most point in Canada. We got bitten to death by the mosquito's and then spent the next day in Sandusky Greyhound station, trying to get o Indianapolis.

What?
This is just a bit of nonsense, not meant to be taken too seriously by anyone - especially if you live in Sandusky. I had this daft little country tune going around in my head and when I came to record it couldn't make it go anywhere because I thought I had two chorus's and no verse. So it ended up as just a little idea that I quite liked.

How?
I wanted it to sound like an old bluegrass record that you might find in the attic, recorded in the 1940's by a bunch of weirdo's who could barely play, with a strange female singer with one leg and blackened teeth: actually me singing through GB's vocal transformer. My wife hates this song - gives her the willies'!

Enjoy, if you can :-))
Phil

Lyrics:
Sandusky
(by Phil Dolby ©2007)

Well we’re heading south through Canada
Across the great Erie
Heading to a land that talks of Life and Liberty
But the country I’ll return to
Is so far across the sea
No amusement park
Could every make me stay in Sandusky

Oh mosquito, you have come to take a bite
Oh mosquito, you’re attracted by the light
Oh mosquito, you are cunning in your flight
Oh mosquito, you’re a victim of the night

Well we’re heading south through Canada
Across the great Erie
No amusement park
Could ever make me stay in Sandusky
No amusement park
Could ever make me stay in Sandusky

Well done &.... &mdash 08/09/07 - 08:55:55 AM
love that one legged female singer - unless you suddenly start rootin' through the wife's belongings for a dress for Sunday services, she shouldn't get to worked up about your gender change for this wonderful song - hold up in a bus station in Sandusky Ohio is a miserable time spent in ANY bus station - enjoyed the tune.

Blessings,

Didn't think the first comment would be from someone from Ohio! Yes the hours spent there were some of the longest of my life!

Just been listening to Candices' Denial which is a great piece of work.

Thanks for the comment, appreciate it:-))

I was halfway through the song, wondering who the female was! It's perfect!

It's a pretty good little tool that isn't it? Can't see me ever using it again though!
Cheers for listening,

The production is a bit more on the experimental side than usual I must admit. Glad you enjoyed the experience! Thanks for popping 'round.

Don't really know what to make of this, to be honest. I've never really seen it as a proper song, just an idea, but maybe that's a good thing.

Thanks for dropping by. How's the weather in Blighty?

There is not enough bluegrass on this site! &mdash 08/12/07 - 12:30:18 AM
And frankly, this song does not remedy that. As you remark yourself, this is more country. Of a particularly cheesy variety. And I like cheese!

(Btw, bluegrass musicians are in general frighteningly good on their instruments.)

Ok, the stuck record effect at the end was funny.

I hope the road trip is going well, but if you have time for writing silly songs, that seems to be all clear.

Victor.

This was a victim of the MJ's drop down menu catagory selector. I admit - it's about as bluegrass as I am Texan:-)) Glad it raised a smile though.

Cheers,

I use the vocal transformer for backing vocals now and again. It is spooky.

I think the vinyl effect may have been a touch strong but it's an odd little number and did give it a kinda otherworldly feel.

song. Really enjoyed this Phil. The vocals are very effective - never sounds like that when I've tried it - strange.

Well, you had me going there Phil &mdash 07/01/08 - 03:58:55 PM
This is a fun little song that reminds me of something you might have heard back in the 40's.

For a while I thought you were having some kind of problem with the recording until I went back and read the intro, and realized you were trying for an old record effect. Once I realized that, it all made good sense. And might I add you did a pretty fair job of it too.

Great little ditty and very well done Phil, with some really great playing on it and some nice Dobro work. Kudos on your creativity here my friend. Thanks for sharing this one.

There are so many tunes here at MJ's that a good percentage get lost along the way, so I'm glad you found and enjoyed my little effort. Thanks for the visit and the comment.

Thanks for taking a journey down to the opera house. I like that vinyl feel, seems that record took quite a beating from your travels. So good to listen too you wore it out. Those mosquitos can be a bit irritating especially the West Nile kind. Thanks for sharing.

ambling country song Phil and the female/male voice thing is the best I've heard to date... really works well for you. It's a good old sound too, cheers M

till I read the comments that it was you singing lead, great job manipulating the transformer and clever mix. I enjoyed this great job.

I looooove this it sounds gorgous and I love it all.
great job I also love the scratches like walking in the sand barefoot.

I loved the female voice but you know what ? It reminded me of Dolly Parton . Loved all the music too.

Peace Dee.
