Description:
How I've been feeling these days...

I lost 80gib of my work and music to Lacie a external hd - I've been spending the majority of my time reproducing my client's drawings. I've been very angry and on the verge of loosing it.

Sometimes, "they" call me "rhythm boy" - I hate that.

Neil, Homey and PV, you better not call me rhythm boy.

I'm in a rebellious kind of mood right now. I haven't been able to spend much time at Mjs so, I'm happy to post this tune and hangout here a bit. And, I'm excited to hear what I've been missing.

I sure hope that you guys can figure out a way to enjoy this tune... -- it's the way I've been feeling...

Thanks for hanging with me.

Cheers! Dion

Warning: This tune will not make a good "sing along" - But if you're gonna whistle it, awww... nevermind...

...How about calling you Rhythm Man. It could be your Super Hero identity. You could wear a cape and everything, which would be really cool. More people should wear capes.

I always love how you use brass as another piece of percussion. It just really punctuates everything so nicely. In this case it gives the whole piece a really aggressive feel. The whole thing almost reminds me of water coming to a boil. Just a few bubbles at first, then it slowly builds until, at the end, the whole thing is just bubbling and steaming.

That sucks about your hard drive. I lost one of my Lacie HDs last summer with almost all of my digital photos, writings and a ton of my GB files. I still have it sitting on a shelf in my studio in the hopes that some day, magically, it will work again. *sigh*

Hello jg &mdash 08/12/07 - 09:53:00 AM
Thanks for stopping by. Rhythm Man, ah... - Actually, secretly, a small part of me doesn't mind being called rhythm boy, I think that I just don't want to spend too much time around the people who happen to call me that now.

Brass as percussion... My next mission, (and this is true) is to figure out the secrets of melody. I don't know why it stumps me, it just does...

Thanks for your comments! Dion

That really sucks about your hard drive! Have you tried a data recovery service? It can be expensive, but sometimes they can get the data off of the drive for you. Sorry to hear about that, my friend.

Anyway, nice to hear another tune from you, rhyth... um, Mr. Super fantastic. I really like this... like Joseph says, the brass-as-percussion is really cool. I like how you add up layers of groove until that full boil at the end.

And the syncopated beats and percussion sounds are really great. Like all of your songs, you seem to keep the listener in mind, always making it an interesting and groovy journey for us.

Hey Buddy! Good see your words here. Yep, it does suck, and big time too! Geez, man...

It was funny, after I heard your Green tune, I was so envious, that you had JP 4, is it - JP World, and I thought, I want that... Knowing that I was kinda down about my loss, my partner just came home w/ it from the Apple Store one day last week and suprised me with it. Cool! I'm gonna have fun w/ it. Already am.

And yes, I do try to make it entertaining for the listner, since I'm kinda limited w/ musical talents and loops are hard to get a person to want to listen to - there's some awesome talent in the World JP - so I'm trying to take advantage of it in a way that folks might not be so turned off by the premanufactured thing. Hey, they can turn me off to, so, there...

Thanks for always taking the time to offer up thoughtful words about what I'm trying to do. You're always 'right on' - It means a lot! Dion

If I could figure out ... &mdash 08/10/07 - 06:30:00 PM
... how to get this onto my phone, I'd do it in a flash, but I am a mobile-phone luddite. I hate them with a passion!
Sorry, where was I?
Great tune Macca - as all your work is, even if it doesn't lend itdelf readilly to intro/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/verse/chorus/ending kind of arrangements ;)
Cheers,
Neil

Bad luck about the drive &mdash 08/10/07 - 06:34:50 PM
I have an old iMac (the blue variety) which died on me maybe 3 years ago. I took it to the Apple shop nearby and it was pronounced DOA (unless I wanted to shell out more than a new iMac would cost). So, I put it in a cupboard until a few months ago when Jan decided she needed a computer for a class she was running. Being a cheapskate from way back, I decided to try the old iMac and was amazed to find it started up first time - that was nearly 7 weeks ago now, and its started up every time since.
I hope this gives you some good dreams (and maybe a little hope) regarding your HD Macca :)

Good to hear from you! Yeah, you sound like me, about cell phones, I could easily do away with it. I like to loosing mine, and tend not to look for it right away.

Glad you're able to say nice things about this tune, especially - I was kinda stepping out on it, I felt. I didn't know what might be the response - so, it's nice to have positive feedback. Thanks! - and in a big way! Always a pleasure! Macca

I think there are lots of possibilities... &mdash 08/11/07 - 11:49:55 AM
...with the whole superhero thing...

I mean, you're halfway there... You've got more secret identities than any other MacJammer...Pretty CLOSE to super-powers...

'Rhythm Boy' is obviously wrong, though... But I bet there are MacJammers who would help get it right...and maybe even design the costume...

'Beat Boy' is even worse... 'Rhythm Lad'? You've got to decide, of course, if you're the main character, i.e., Rhythm Man, or the supportive sidekick...

You know, I never really used my LaCie for much after I stopped trying to learn ProTools, and after a while it had a few days of not whirring up into place, so I let spin down for a while and then one day it felt like spinning up again... Once I finish paying off a certain Telecaster of my acquaintance I have it in my head to try a Glyph. In this part of the world they've got a great reputation for not failing and for great support...

My condolences on projects lost... This is a marvelous gift from The Rhythm Cave...

It really is great seeing your name pop up in the email, too, with a new tune...

Ed

This is really cool.It must have been fun putting this together.I really have no idea how something like this is done, but it must take a lot of work.

Hey there, Sir! I'd swap out rhythm boy for any of your choices! Of course, I really like the idea of having supper powers, but, no one is gonna believe, and I'm sure to be tested one day.

I like the word, 'marvelous' associated w/ anything that I might do. I figured folks might have a hard time w/ this one, and wouldn't know what to do w/ it except, maybe consider it as a choice for a ringtone. I do enjoy listening to it though. But I don't however, like it when my phone BEEPS, me. That's it... I get one beep as an alert that someone might be trying to get a hold of me and oftentimes, I don't hear it, or, I can't locate from that one, almost pleasant, chime... Oh well...

I've got something for you this week so, beware... Thanks for stopping by, mister EJH! Dion (I'm using my real name because I'm rebelling, you see...)

Hey Mark! &mdash 08/12/07 - 01:19:37 PM
Thanks for stopping by. Glad you'd think that this is cool! Actually, this did take an aweful lot of work, and I did have fun putting it together. It was one that I never got tired of cycling back to add additional sounds. About 30 percent of it is penciled, and the rest of it is loops!

I don't know how to explain the hows of putting a song together. The sounds that you hear did resinate w/ how I was feeling, for sure. I know... odd feelings, but the most prevelant feeling was one of intense frustration w/ a bit of confusion about how what happended could have happend to me, and on my mac.

Thanks for taking the time to share your words about it. It means alot, coming from an accomplished musician such as yourself. I"m just faking it.

love this Macca/Dion - has a great feel and groove to it and is very cleverly done. I can think of worse things to be called (and have been many times) - I think you should take it as a compliment. After all this does have a great rhythm to it.
Cheers

Cool percussion sounds &mdash 08/12/07 - 12:01:35 PM
Ringtone genre? To be honest, I wouldn't be able to use this as a ringtone- I'd be too wrapped up in listening to this to answer the call! I really like this track, Dion- lots of nice beats and cool rhythms.

And the nickname "rhythm boy" isn't as bad as "radio boy", which is a nickname I got after doing a few stereo installations for my friends, haha!

After loosing my laptop hard drive, I know the pain you're going through with that! Hopefully some data recovery outfit can get the files back for ya. (if you've explored those options)

I wouldn't DARE.... &mdash 08/13/07 - 01:45:22 AM
...call you 'rhythm boy'! So, how's about 'rhythm dude'? ;)

I'm really sorry to hear about your 80Gb loss- but I guess, through your mishap, we get to reap the benefits of having yet another great tune from you, which seems pretty unfair in the scheme of how 'the muse' works....sheesh, did ANY of that make ANY sense?!

OK, OK, before I make myself appear even more stupid than I already am, I just wanted to say how much I love this track. Unfortunately, my cell phone is too old for downloading tunes, so I'll just have to be archaic, & download it into my iPod (which I prefer to a cell phone any day!)

Many Thanks for another great piece Dion!
Cheers!
Alf

On my iPhone "Marimba" ringtone. But yours has a more interesting groove. I'd love to have any 5 consecutive seconds of this as a ringtone.

More Excess! &mdash 08/16/07 - 07:31:07 PM
How about 'Percussion Master'? Because that's what you are, sir!

This is really good. My only suggestion would be that it's pretty groovy and "under control" sounding for a piece whose title is "loosing it..." I REALLY like where it was heading; I guess I was just thinking it could have gone a lot more over the top to give the sense that the music was careening about wildly out of control by the end... just a thought! I'm a big fan of excess, used sparingly of course...

When I hear this I feel confined, crammed, disorganized, and hot for some reason (It may just be the weather). A very frustrating jam. Seeing whats going on in your life I hope making this song alleviated some of your frustrations.

A Large Intro &mdash 08/24/07 - 08:48:01 AM
To me this sounds as a Fantastic big intro for something even more amazing...

You tickled me...and now I want more...but it did not come...

Is there a sequal or am I missing a point here.

Absolutely great and sparse intstrumentals...Love the 'chaotic' rythmic drive it has all the way...

Still I want more :):)

Solid!
