Maybe Ed won't be so bitter anymore! &mdash 08/10/07 - 04:51:43 PM
Hey, I recognize this tune! What a nice gesture it is to arrange a song by the enfant terrible of Macjams! I'm sure Ed must feel quite honoured. Very beautifully done.

Honored &mdash 08/11/07 - 10:35:43 PM
Well,I feel pretty honored to have to have you comment on my small musical contributions. Thanks!

It's in G major... &mdash 08/10/07 - 08:19:17 PM
...which is the happiest of the keys...

All right, Mark, I came home a little while ago from one of those just-before-vacation-and-have-to-wrap-up-a-million-loose-ends days, a bit crispy around the edges, and there on my screen was this...

This is really just what I was hoping for when I tried to nudge you into working up a version... It takes one of my favorites among my own melodies and just takes it every place it can go... I love the way you harmonized this, and...well, I love everything about it...

And now...you are getting sleepy...you are getting sleepy, but you can hear the sound of my voice...and my voice will go with you as you find yourself pleasantly surprised to start working on your ALL ED HANNIFIN SONGS ALBUM...and when you awake it will seem almost as if it were your own idea...

Karen heard it playing from the other room and said, "Hey, who's doing that beautiful version of 'Mist'?" She was very pleased to discover that it was you...

Of course, then she came in and looked over my shoulder and wanted to know why this guy Clark things I'm bitter...

So, hey, I'm on vacation now! Come on over and meet Ziti! Let's drink lots of iced tea! You can give me another guitar lesson... I milked that last one eighteen years ago pretty well, methinks...

Thanks, Mark. This is really gorgeous...

Ed

perfect Pitch &mdash 08/11/07 - 10:57:20 PM
I guess you don't have perfect pitch (neither do I)-I'm actually playing it in G#.For some reason it seemed to sound better in that key.
I played around with the tune quite a bit-at one point I tried modulating the last verse up a whole step.Barry Manilow would have been proud.
My daughter came in while I was working on the song and told me that her summer art teacher plays your song all the time while they are painting and says it is her favorite song. She must have found macjams somehow and downloaded it.I'm telling you you have some hit songs on your hands if more people heard them.
Anyway,I hope I did the song some justice-I'm feeling a little sleepy...must learn more Ed Hannifin songs....must learn more Ed Hannifin songs........

Very tasty playing Mark &mdash 08/10/07 - 08:33:25 PM
In an email, Ed said it sounded awful, but it sounds really good to me ;)

We could start a club "The Ed Hannifin Mist Association" for people who have been involved in covers of this lovely song.

I wouldn't have described Ed as bitter - more "tart" than bitter. But you can't always believe rumours can you.

Lovely playing Mark - could probably have had a bit more sparkle added in production, but a minor nit. I love the way you play so effortlessly.

Someday &mdash 08/10/07 - 08:47:55 PM
I was thinking that someday I too might be a member of the Ed Hannifin Mist Association... but you know, the bar is set a little too high. Anyway, I love this rendition of the really excellent tune. Great playing.

From a fellow guitarist &mdash 08/12/07 - 12:33:21 PM
Really glad to hear you like it.I have a feeling that Ed's tunes are kind of hallowed ground at macjams-I was a little afraid that an instrumental cover might not go over too well.

Acoustic &mdash 08/12/07 - 09:10:55 PM
Actually,it's an electric.I got as close to an acoustic sound as I could!(One advantage-almost no finger squeaks)

Very sweetly done &mdash 08/12/07 - 07:04:51 PM
Nice touch on that electric guitar ! Almost has light Chet Atikins feel.

Very sweet and melodically done!

Strings &mdash 08/12/07 - 09:03:29 PM
Thanks much for your comment!I really respect your opinion you are a great guitarist.
Part of the light touch is light strings which I am forced to use because of left hand pain-wish I could have played it on acoustic.

Excellent Interpretation... &mdash 08/13/07 - 01:28:52 AM
Very fluent and subtle, both musically and artistically.

Ed's tunes often seem to the ear to be somewhat simplistic, but that's because of their cohesive structure.

For anyone who really understands song construction, Ed does some fine "tight writing," which is a discipline that escapes many songwriters.

This is a fine piece of music... no matter how it's interpreted. ;)

I'm not a songwriter(at least not lyrics),but I know what you mean about Ed's songs.
It takes a special type of talent to do what he does.
Thanks for the comment-really enjoying listening to your music!

I was just listening to Goodnight and Drive Safely which you also dedicated to Ed.Some fantastic blues playing there-reminds me of Key To The Highway off the Layla album.
Still trying to work something out with Ed so we can get together for a blues-folk-jazz jam.
Thanks for continuing to check out my stuff!

Dark colours &mdash 08/16/07 - 08:41:55 PM
That's a nice moody piece for such a generally bright sounding instrument like a strat. You're sure you're not "lbgibsonES"?

Lovely piece. I enjoyed this very much.
