Description:
I had 3 chords I like to play on my acoustic, so I recorded them into GarageBand, added four more chords to make a chorus and added another guitar track to fill the song out.
I meditated on the musical playback and the words just came to me, so I recorded them too with my less than stellar voice.
"C'mon Get Ready" is the final result.
Lyrics:
Come on get ready for the change thats coming.
Get your stuff together and prepare your mind.
You don't have to worry about the pain you're holding.
It will come together and you'll be just fine.
If you think you're not ready, then you are mistaken.
It's okay to feel a little tension and fear.
If you let go of what you've been led to believe in.
Inside of you is Him and your Freedom.
Come on Be strong
Hold on There's nothing wrong
All paths lead to the same place.
Stand up Stand proud
And scream your truth out loud
Let the change come through you.
Come on get ready for the change that's coming.
Get your stuff together and prepare your mind.
You don't have to worry about the pain you're holding.
It will come together and you'll be just fine.

Ibanez Performance acoustic guitar.

Don't Be Shy &mdash 08/16/07 - 09:35:08 AM
This is a good tune, psexnyc. There's nothing wrong with your voice... reminds me a little of Darius Rucker (Hootie & The Blowfish). He did alright. ;)
On a technical level, the first problem is TOO much FX... especially the use of the Chorus effect... I suggest you back the level down on the rhythm guitar and use only a very slight amount on the lead guitar part, if any at all.
Right now, they are eating each other up.
Don't be afraid to boost your vocals in spots. As I said, they sound fine.
Welcome to MacJams! ;)

I like it. Those house drums work well with acoustic guitar, I'm surprised I never would have guessed. I have to agree that the fx are covering up the strengths you have- good voice, strong guitar work.
I guess we were kinda born on the same day, we should do some collaberating in the future.

I guess you can tell that Chorus is my favorite FX. I'm gonna tweak the song and see how it comes out after I back off here and there amongst it all. And collaboration sounds cool...you can do that on Mac Jams? [ Reply to This ]

I love it!! I have not collaborated with another soul creatng fresh music since 1990something. It's just been me, my guitar and my reflection in the mirror. But since my brother-in-law gave me this eMac with GarageBand 3 on it, I have been having a blast!! [ Reply to This ]

My acoustic is not electric, so I am just recording it thru the little mic opening on my eMac. I just mute the TV, turn off the A/C (and I wait till the wife is at work and the kids are at summercamp), fire up GB3, make an instrument track, highlight it and when I see those little level things jumping, I know it's ready. I select a guitar sound, plug in my headphones and get to playing. I record my vocals the same way too. [ Reply to This ]
Cool stuff .. &mdash 08/17/07 - 09:02:06 AM
.. I got some sense of a kinda Hootie crossed with John Mellencamp's "Jack and Diane" ..and a hint of Dan Reed Network :o)
If you like the effect of chorus .. try recording
the main acoustic parts twice, 2 takes .. always slightly different .. pan 'em evenly L & R .. you can use
very slightly different tuning adjust %'s too .. to each track to give more or less chorus like effect .. this
sometimes creates a richer sound than just using the "chorus" effect.
Good tune, nice playing and singing - got potential.
Enjoyed it. Thanks for sharin'. [ Reply to This ]
Hmm.. &mdash 08/17/07 - 10:11:54 AM
Wow!! If I keep hanging around here on MacJams, you guys are going to make me into a Serious Musician!! I think I like that!! I will attempt your suggestion. When you say slightly different tunings, do you mean slightly tune my strings up or down from the original tuning? [ Reply to This ]
To clarify: &mdash 08/17/07 - 11:32:02 AM
.. no .. I mean play the guitars twice, two separate recordings/tracks, exact same tuning on the guitars. Then, (in GBv3) if you open the tracks edit drawer at the bottom (hit the scissors symbol to the right of the 'eye') .. you will see "Enhance tuning" .. with a scale of "off" to "max" ..0-100. If you use a little on one of the guitar tracks, so it is hardly noticeable eg. 10-15 .. then go to the other guitar track you did and set it slightly different... then play the two tracks together (one panned L one R), adjust
to taste.
The combination of the two tracks never being exactly the same AND this little chorus like effect from using the "Enhance tuning" combines to give a 'chorus' like effect .. that you might like... and without using chorus FX. You can try this quickly without recording a new track .. just 'duplicate' the one you have and pan etc,
and apply a touch of Enhance tuning as described above .. but I think it works best when the two tracks are recorded separately in two takes. You can also EQ the tracks slightly different .. or apply different filters etc.
Try it and see if you like the warmer, richer guitar sounds you can get this way :)

Great debut - welcome to MJ! &mdash 08/17/07 - 05:58:41 PM
Nice tune you put together here - and I think the vocals pretty damn good - especially stretching the harmonies the way you do. You're off to a great start - looking forward to more. [ Reply to This ]
