Description:
from 1993 4 TR tape

Lyrics:
FLUKEY JUKEY
Stephen Kemp

I'm tired of holding you up, so I won't hold you down
I'm tired of holding you up, so I won't hold you down
I'm tired of being the square and just hanging around

I'm not doing you wrong, but you don't do me right
I'm not doing you wrong, but you don't do me right
You're chasing round every day, staying up late at night

You're telling me I'm too slow, but you're talking way too fast
You're telling me I'm too slow, but you're talking way too fast
You tell me I'm coming first, but you're always seeing me last

- instr break -

REPEAT FROM THE TOP ONCE

you're always seeing me last
you're always seeing me last
you're always seeing me last

But if you see me coming, you're seeing me last
you're always seeing me last

I'm tired of holding you up, so I won't hold you down
I'm tired of being the square and just hanging around
just hanging around
just hanging around

All i have is the steroe master, but thought I'd throw it on the wall to see if it would stick....

I seem to have left a couple of places for other people to solo into -- but never got around to completing it.

I wasn't clear enough &mdash 08/15/07 - 11:55:26 PM
Yes, I played live flute all through it. The louder flute playing the SONG MELODY is really a MIDI flute thru my synth -- it also usually is there behind my melody voice.

I was never entirely satisfied with the timbre (tone) of the synth flute, but just let it take the melody betwee verses, where i would have preferred another instrument -- piano of guitar, or maybe a good sax. A REAL bass would add a lot too.
Just never had time arrange for a live recording collab.
The old days: sweet but clunky. Thanks for your interest, Feter.

Stephen, this is really original. 'Tired of holding you up, so I won't hold you down', I love the lyrics!
You have a great voice, which I'd kill for...
The instrumentation is very 'cool' & the combination has a kind of surreal 'beatnik' feel to it- clearly the flutes are probably responsible for this...

Really, really good, faved & downloaded,
Cheers & Thanks for sharing Stephen!
Best Wishes,
Alf

I like the lyrics. Seems like I was in a relationship like this once...

This is great ... &mdash 08/16/07 - 04:09:08 PM

.. lyrics are excellent little contrasting plays on words. Great singing and hypnotic beat, walking bass line (with cool little stutter) and flutes.

Nice touches with the finger clicking too ..

Classic song feel to it.

Enjoyed this as much as "Rebecca's sixths"

those 'running through the city streets' sort of sounds. It's a great sound though, with a great treatment. I think it's the flute gives it that lost feel and the vocals are spot on, Cheers M

awesome track, great vibe. i could see this in a 70's crime movie (before everything gets bad for the main character). what was that movie that Dustin Hoffman played the paroled con, who tries to do things right, and then it all goes to hell. great movie with a crap soundtrack, they should have used this instead.

wow &mdash 09/03/07 - 05:54:45 PM
this is jazzy in the best of senses because I'm not the biggest jazz fan, but this is too cool for school. I love it.

I love your voice as you know; the soft background singing is great - your vocals, too? wow!

The flutes - ooh. sort of tree-hugging, water bubbling quality, which I adore.

The hammering, vibrating...keyboard? Wowzer, the highlight for me.

Cool lyrics.

P.S. I don't get the title.

picked out of thin air -- it rhymed!

Good Song &mdash 09/19/07 - 04:38:17 PM
I like the rhythm of the vocals and the mellow walking bass. I could hang around and all day and listen.

Thanks
Bill
