Description:
I had a very warm welcome when I arrived at MacJams, not least from Drakonis, who kindly invited me to make a reworking of his ambient piece Ember-Rekindled.

So I rubbed some sticks together and came up with this.

The basic track is Drakonis' work, to which I've added whistles and flutes, leccy guitar and choral voices.

Please visit his page for a list of the many other Rekindled Embers - they are very inspiring.

another misunderstood fire-lizard :-) Why don't people check wet logs before throwing them onto the fire, anyway?

Wow, this is a delight! I love the change to cello for that one track, and your occasional jangly guitar is nice... but the striking parts are your hauntingly delicious choice of melody/harmony in the singing and penny-whistle parts, sparse and tantalizing... I wanted that to go on and on... this gave me shivers, a unique and enjoyable take. Thank you so much for taking time to collaborate on this. I do hope to hear more from you soon.
ttfn,
Drakonis

Thanks for asking me &mdash 08/22/07 - 05:59:10 AM
I really had fun working on this, so thanks!

I wanted to see what would happen if the melody line was at a deep pitch instead of high and ethereal, so I swapped your MIDI violins for a cello three octaves lower (without changing any of your actual notes). That left me plenty of sonic space to fill in some high and ethereal stuff of my own. The things I added were all real instruments (and voices) because I love the effect of combining real instruments with digital ones.

So glad you like the result!

Oh, yeah! &mdash 08/16/07 - 02:49:42 PM
This is definitely one of the more interesting versions of this gem of a song in a long while! Some really nice additions to Drak's original masterpiece, one of my all time fav's on this site (and there are many)! Well done!

Thank you Henke. Yes, the source material is so good you can't go too far wrong with it! It's a great composition with so much scope for experimentation. I'm very pleased you enjoyed what I did with it!

Another hit! &mdash 08/17/07 - 10:40:39 AM
Wonderful collaberation. I regulary enjoy the talent of Drakonis. (who cannot?) I really like the additions you put with the song. I am a sucker for those soft choral voices as well. Excellent job.

Very pretty Ember &mdash 08/17/07 - 02:06:02 PM
After reading Drak's comment, i expected to hear sizzling and crackling. Very peaceful and soothing... Another fine addition to the ever growing Ember collection. :-)

I think this might be... &mdash 08/17/07 - 06:38:30 PM
... the only version I've heard of Ember, unless I heard the original. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Really scrummy stuff though. Drak has laid down his usual fine material for the ambient soundbed but the choral vocals make for a powerful addition and the penny-whistle produces a pretty spooky sound on this occasion. I like the guitar too. Shivers down the spine indeed! A nice addition, LW. Sorted!

Thank you &mdash 11/14/07 - 05:47:58 PM
I'm glad you appreciated it. Drakonis' original track had a peaceful dignity to it which I tried to maintain even in the flickering whistles.

warmth &mdash 11/15/07 - 05:39:55 PM
it is sweet rich harmony, mesmerizing singing and flute. it feels like a warm summer eve on the moor. a guitar is a simple addition, however it seems perfectly fitting. it seemed too short, and was played again. 0x0

Is that your voice? or loop?

This could be played in any alternative shop I have ever been in.

It has a Native American sort of feel to it. Or Druid-ish.

Why haven't you post in such a long time?

Thanks for checking out my stuff the other day.

Dave
