Yeah, man, Jeff Beck. He's our favorite guitarist, and the first time I heard these tracks there were a few lead bits that totally made me think of him. Glad you dug this, ego, thanks for listening!

the middle break gave me a definite zappa vibe. very unconventional, and sticking with the classic roock tunes of our forefathers....nicely played, mixed, etc... well, you know all that, you never disappoint!

If only the two of you could get together for a monster guitar jam. Now that would rock. Thanks, Mcboy! You may be right about too many cymbal crashes... I'm just emulating my real playing, which is the same way, haha.

Love the way you mix this stuff to sound like it is just OUTSIDE my headphones, Dave. Fun bouncy growly rockin' tune. A diversity of styles all mixed into a cohesive romp.

Thanks much, Glenn. If we have a distinctive style, I'm sure it's 90% Steve; at least I would never mistake his space-age rockabilly funk for someone else. Glad you enjoyed this!

So Clean &mdash 08/17/07 - 05:53:53 PM
Vac's playing is always so clean but I'm really liking some of the over driven bass tones in this one. Great mix and is it really possible to have too many cymbal crashes?

[ Reply to This ]
Cymbals! &mdash 08/18/07 - 11:39:58 AM
No, I think cymbals sound beautiful. They are sort of a drummer's nightmare; you can never have too many cymbals, and there's always cool new sounds out there to buy, and they cost hundreds of bucks each. That's why I'm broke, haha. Thanks for checking this out, Z, I'm glad you like it!

Groovarama! &mdash 08/17/07 - 06:39:06 PM
This moves along rather nicely (of course). Excellent playing from SV, and the drums sound as real as a person's likely to hear here. The middle section is just right - very Zappa indeed. Lovely production David.
This one has shown me I've been working my 'phones (and ears) too hard of late - sounds like clipping, but I now know it's my 'phones.
Very nice stuff.

Jiguma &mdash 08/18/07 - 11:44:35 AM
Thanks, Neil! Don't blame your headphones too quickly; I think there is indeed a little clipping in here. I'll try to iron it all out for the final version.

The look on my face right now &mdash 08/17/07 - 10:55:51 PM
I could easily get committed - My face is hosting a smile that has grown to become oversized this evening - Head tilted sideways, w/ that look of being pleasured, smile turned grin has reached that point which is just before it makes a lot of noise...

Per dat der g'tar, this was about some serious serious business. And I'm thinkn', that by the sound of that last note, we won't have to worry about this again...

I'm dign' how Vac wrestles down those fat aressed strings like it aint suppose to happen either...

Talk about a chillmaster - The intro, just before and when YOU kicked in, PV - chills just raced up my little vessle like they had a serious job to do, too! I was already excited w/ anticipation, and usually, I tend to expect too much and end up having expectations not being met. But you sirs have failed me not.

How you stayed outta the way, David...how you got with the way...how you preceeded the way, and everything there after... Beautiful job of escorting events - I think they should call you rhythm dude!

FUNK! FUNK! FUNK! FUNKN' GROOVE, DUDES! - YOU PEOPLE...

I'm outta here - Thanks - Dion

Well, of course this rocks... &mdash 08/18/07 - 10:45:37 AM
...and of course it has funk into the bargain...

Nice nods to Beck without sounding clonal...

It also has that thing that I love in perceptualvortex productions, of having a drum track that is programmed but sounds like a drummer with ears is playing along...The feel is very live and alive...

I'm hearing what seems to me to be clipping on this...at first I took it just to be an artifact and maybe intentional, of the guitar sounds chosen...But I think it's more than that...I hear it on my phones and on my speakers...So if Neil has blown his phones, then I've blown mine AND my speakers...

Ed

Blown speakers &mdash 08/18/07 - 12:02:38 PM
No, I hear it too. There's some distortion in the original guitar recordings, as well as some clipping that I... uh, intentionally put in there. Yeah, that's the ticket. Seriously, I think there's a few spots of redlining that need fixing.

I appreciate that about the drums. I have approx. a zillion drum loops to wade through, and I've been making, rethinking, tinkering and re-doing the drums on this quite a bit. I like the final result. Thanks for listening, Ed!

Finally got here... &mdash 08/19/07 - 03:21:07 PM
And thanks for mentioning it to me. It's rather apt that I should listen to this as I prepare the next podcast show where I'm featuring your 'Fists of Righteous Harmony' album. I love that album and this track exemplifies all that I like about the album and the material the two of you put together. Will this be going on the second Fists of Righteous Harmony album? Corking stuff as ever %u2013 slick production, fantastic playing and well written/arranged/put together. And if anyone hasn't got the first Fists of Righteous Harmony album yet, what are you waiting for?!

Wicked ... &mdash 12/27/07 - 12:12:39 PM

playing and groove .. love those Fected acoustic 'wash'es .. I too detect a touch of clipping, little in the L on the electric and a little more in the R on the acoustic mostly in the earlier sections and not later on.

Small nit in another cookin' tune. Kudos to you and Vac.
