There is &mdash 08/17/07 - 12:40:38 PM
a reason why these songs were so popular - they're fantastic compositions. You and Bing do the composition justice. Great playing and your voice was made for this song. Excellent. Thanks.

Unexpected &mdash 08/17/07 - 04:22:20 PM
This is a song which we all know but I can't ever remember it being done on any music site.

The thing for me about this song is that it is so much part of our conciousness I think we've forgotten the meaning. Football crowds sing versions of it and I think it's been devalued because of that.

Maybe we should pay some attention to the real meaning of the words.

Much applause for doing a new version and reminding me (at least) of what a good and important song it was.

Great performance all round.

Cheers

Dick

my Friend its very true ..why I m very in love
with these old songs ,they were real songs for
real poeple meant alot for them and somehow
they are for me . the words the truthness
as the simplicity for a folk song ..and how
decent ..I was asking our MJers here the otherday
why such songs even Kumbaya poeple have bad attitude
about them ?
anyhoo I m very glad you enjoyed this and very
thankfull for your kind words ... !!!

Appropriate song! &mdash 08/17/07 - 11:33:32 PM
I saw the Martin Scorcese film on Bob Dylan last week (for about the fourth time), and was really taken with the impact that protest songs (including those of Pete Seeger) had around the late 60s - when I was in my late teens - and how appropriate they were for the times (Vietnam War in particular, but also the changing status of young people and the confrontation between the old and the new). Unfortunately, you and your country are in the middle of a new version of all this, and the song once again is relevant.
It's great that you've done this with Bing - "no guitars" ha!!
Peace,
Neil

Move it &mdash 08/19/07 - 01:43:21 PM
Nice power train of soul energy. Sounds a little distant, though, as if I am the lonely one hanging back, behind the barn, not yet ready to step into the glory of the Redeeming Lord. Could be a soundtrack for a movie about the grace of God in ordinary lives.

Who needs guitars? &mdash 09/27/07 - 03:51:05 PM
What a lovely combination, the medieval-sounding mandolin (is that Mr Sanchez?) with the bright and crisp sound of the dulcimer.

I can hear the joy emanating from this song with every word and strum.

2003 peace demonstration &mdash 01/27/08 - 02:36:34 AM
i was in Boston just as the US launched its invasion of Iraq. I found out there was a demonstration in front of the US Federal building. Went over and they were passing around the bullhorn. Anyone who wanted to sing anything. So I sang this one, and others joined in. Thanks for doing such a nice version here. (In front of the building a young girl, maybe 17, joined in the sit-in and was taken away. The next day, at a larger march, i saw her and asked her. She was a high school student. They released her and there would be a hearing later. It is young kids like this who inspire and give us hope. (Yes, the Boston police are not as bad as the NY police in handling demonstartors I hear).
