Description:
Just a bunch of thoughts. Have fun!

Doug

Lyrics:
I don't know anyone who isn't a child. A wolf is a wolf, sparrow a sparrow, stone a stone. We are wolf and stone. We are the bright sky and the darkness.

The tree did not blossom this spring. No fruit. Hole pecked trunk and branches. Smooth gray bark, green moss patches. Leaves gather sunshine, sparse and clustered. Many branches dry and bare hang useless in the hot August air. Waiting for a miracle.

Control is gone. The Earth is in control. Years of using and beating the Earth. Earth wants back. Earth wins. Tree alone. Against the odds. Live to fail.

What is it to fail? We speculate. Religion tell us. What do we know? We can not. Only accept.

Why a child? A child can be wise. A child can be mature beyond its years. Define child? Look at yourself. Our lives are too short to go passed childhood. There may be some who understand and become wise elders. But still, they are children. They understand their place.

When we leave this place, maybe we can grow. I don't know. I am a child.

Very nice, Doug! I found your thoughts very insightful, and that guitar playing is great!

Very cool rhythmically Doug &mdash 08/20/07 - 11:39:29 PM
This is outside the sqaure you usually inhabit Doug, and I like it a lot - kind of Bruce Cockburn lyrically (really like the lyrics) meeting someone from the 70s - Hendrix comes to mind for some reason, vocally rather than guitar-god-wise.
I really like this all round - really different and really interesting.

Thanks Neil! &mdash 08/21/07 - 11:32:30 AM
Yeah, I wanted a real chunky rhythm piece. You mentioned Hendrix and I "huh-wha..." but read on. I know I don't play like that. But interesting connection with his vocal phrasing. Cool.

Thanks,
Doug

Wow- a narrative &mdash 08/21/07 - 08:37:56 AM
This reminds me of my picture of beatnik clubs. The lyrics show more cohesiveness and thought, though. I like the way you keep your voice modulated to keep it conversational, yet clean.

My challenge is to not sound too preachy or something. Best to keep things casual!

Thanks! It was a good process to lay down the sounds. Then a bit of experimenation to get the phrasing so it would fit the rhythm without sounding "read".

Thanks man!

the 'jumbled' sounds in this... it's very listenable... even though it sounds dis-ordered, there is an order to it. Something 70's here and the vocal commentary are just right, accompanying the nice percussion/guitar effect, making a very attractive sound all round, M

Hey Maurice! &mdash 08/21/07 - 11:48:30 AM
When I submitted the song, there was a field where I could submit "what it sounds like." I think they were referring to other artists. But I could not resist putting, "elephant crashing through the woods." It has just the right feel, to me... loose and chunky!

Thanks for your comments!

Thanks for the kind words! The leads were really going to be the icing on the cake. But I didn't spend as much time on it as I could have. Maybe next time! It could be So fun!

Eh eh eh, Mister - Doug! I don't know why I keep letting suprise slap me accross the ears when I hear your stuff, it always is a cool experience.

And always having enjoyed your words in the forums, I shouldn't be the least bit suprised by how cool your ramblings are, and w/ the accompanyment of music...

This is waaaaaaaaay layed back and groovn' - And as I understand it, we have no choice but to tend toward reflecting how we're doin it'...

Excellent musical rendering of those crazy signals you tend to entertain up there...

Now THAT, was a nice groove - Thanks for the trip! Dion

P.S. You make me laugh inside, and out...

I must be doing something right!

I will mention to my daughters that someone gets my jokes and they will roll their eyes...

Actually I'm glad we get each other's humor, Dion. Sometimes I just don't know what's appropriate to who, so I just shut up! But other times, it seeps out.

Thanks for liking my music!

really nice mix, and lovely chunky guitar playing. You deliver the lyrics with great panache and authority. This is a funky, thought provoking piece .... chewy indeed. Damn, it's taken me too long to check your work out ... but worth the wait.

Great track.

Your vocal is perfectly done - laid back and rich, letting the words say it for you. Nice rhythm, and some lovely guitar touches in there. Most striking thing is the lyrics, though - nice ideas, nicely expressed. Very cool work. Nice. Peace.

cool piece. a collection of many things. Did anyone mention a little bo diddly in the rythm guitar? And a nice 60's san francisco lead geetar. The rythm build is quite cool as well.
