Lyrics
Entropy (Box After Box)

the problem basically
is that
i don't want to do this

the dank basement is full of
box after box
of deteriorating memories

i haven't the heart for execution
to dispose of someone
else's treasures

likely in there
i am
somewhere in those boxes

so in a way
i am
erasing a bit of myself

~ ~ ~

in the darkest corner
of the basement
is a small separate room

and in that room
through a dilapidated door
is a closet

and in that disconnected closet
a hidden door
lies

without a thought
i am again
opening that surreptitious door

~ ~ ~

the passage is always difficult
deeper
it leads down

crisp echoes my shuffling
groping towards
a distant glow

eventually
i
emerge

in the verdant glen
there is the sound
of gently murmuring water

sun softly dappling the moss
silken light
pervading this wordless room

now i can hear
a young couple
giggling

~ ~ ~

nothing is written
on the back

no date
no place
no name

another unknown photograph
another unrecalled memory
another ungrasped moment

i feel
unauthorized
to contemplate these things

box after box

yet in a way
i am
forgetting a bit of myself

So articulate... that voice... it reminds me of Tom Atwood... and the music builds... beautifully! Wow, great piece.

Wow, Bill
I can really relate to this, having recently cleaned out my basement . Darn, I couldn't find the secret door that opens up into a verdant glen,
but i did find lots of pictures. Who took the one of road sign, and do I need to save it? Whose child is that, getting on the school bus? It isn't mine, so why do i have it? "I feel unauthorized to contemplate these things." And time marches on... Great introspective piece.

nice
as stun nutz said, nice buildup. it's almost disturbing how the chords start sounding warped when the reverb comes up and the rhythmic metallic sound comes in. at the end is that strings or vocals that have been effected? it's very nice. i've been working in the basement as well; made myself through away a big box full of old journals. figured why dwell in the past.

At the edge
Jeez Bill - this gripped and scared me from the start - this is a great piece - gentle but kinda unhinged.

likely in there
i am
somewhere in those boxes

Is a great image. This reminds me a little of laurie Anderson in her good ol' Big Science days.

This is one of my fav tracks of yours ...a wild, dark journey.

Wow...
Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful - Somewhat haunting, (like my basement) quite real.

Love the guitar, and I'm amazed that it never sounded reptitive, but always like it was supposed to be.

Love the synth thing running around between my ears, like 'those' thoughts that won't leave me alone. But I didn't want that sound to leave.

The walking bass...

The piano...

The way you used the steel drums to lighten things up toward that which is good...

The whole thing...

Man, I'm glad this one was available for dl! Thanks! Dion

methodical
I like the feel of this song... it has a plodding resignation to it that kinda puts the listener on edge. Very cool concept.

When I saw the song title I thought you were going to tie entropy in with the "particle in a box" aspect of quantum mechanics.

Uh Huh...
Steve nailed it: "unhinged." An excellent protrayal of those moments "between." Those moments of inner truth. Well done!

Take care!

Hi Smokey
I am not forgetting to listen, life is just real busy right now. I like this piece. The direct musical groove supports the spoken lines well. Very Meditative.

Keep 'em comming
