Description:
This is a track I created to accompany one of my Children's Choirs at church, to sing the old hymn, which also happens to be the offical anthem of my high school, Concordia Lutheran High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

I used GB3 with Native Instruments Akoustic Piano. The track is heavily edited. I make no claims that I could perform the piece this accurately if I was playing live.

My controller is a Yamaha P-120. What a great board. It has been solid as a rock for the last four years.

Hi John &mdash 08/21/07 - 07:46:33 AM
Don't be over modest. I don't hear any impossible runs or anything here. Nice arrangement of a grand old hymn. The Akoustic Piano has a very good tone. I'm thinking of boosting my system and getting one of the virtual pianos, this and Ivory sound great, what are the differences?

Thanks
Bill

Thank you, Bill. &mdash 08/22/07 - 06:55:26 PM
Bill, thanks for your kind words. I would say that both programs (ivory and akoustic piano) are excellent, and are WAY better than any stock piano in GB, even the Steinway in the Orchesta Jam Pack. But the Akoustic Piano wins out for me, because:

1) I got an excellent 'academic' price from the Academic Superstore of around 140.00
2) Akoustic Piano is much less taxing on my computer, with fewer dropouts, clicks, pops, and other performance issues that I have with Ivory
3) the Steinway in Akoustic Piano is just drop-dead fantastic.

Hope this helps! Happy jamming, Bill.

A touching piece... &mdash 08/21/07 - 01:06:01 PM
Ohh... I think that you are being REALLY modest!

A fairly stunning performance by my standards, at least - and I'm sure, it surpass many others...

Are you a music teacher, and did you spend time at icomp? I think that I remember you from there. I was, umm... - I'll tell you by sending you a note.

I must say it again, this is a pretty wonderful performance! Thanks for sharing! Dion

Thanks, Dion. &mdash 08/22/07 - 06:57:40 PM
Thanks, Dion, and yes, I think I remember you from iComp, also. Your name rings a bell. iComp is a great site, but for whatever reason, I seem to have a lot more traffic on MJ. I suspect it may be the banner. What a great idea. Thanks, Miguel.

Nice playing &mdash 09/14/07 - 11:34:43 PM
I remember waking up early Sabbath mornings to my Dad playing this hymn at a very loud volume in our home stereo. Nice! I have not had any issues with clipping etc with Ivory. I use it within GB. I would like to have both but dont think my wife would let me buy another one just yet. May be next year! IN the meantime I am very happy with Ivory but would love to compare both. I read a ton of reviews before going with Ivory and it was not an easy decision.

I missed this before, &mdash 10/31/07 - 10:28:30 PM
but I'm glad I found it tonight. This is a really confident playing of the hymn. I can imagine your combined choirs giving a really rousing rendition of the hymn with this as the accompaniment!

Our children's choir is at 9 members in grades K through 8. I'm doing lots of echo-type songs, several African hymns with drum accompaniments, and a couple of features with the oldest three girls singing some contemporary choruses.

Last year we did your arrangement of 'Oh, How I Love Jesus', and did it again for a community benefit concert, so I know how well your hymn arrangements work! Thanks, John.

Enjoyable classic hymn &mdash 12/17/07 - 09:11:04 PM
Ahhh...beautiful rendition of one of my favorite hymns! Fresh, uptempo, yet thoughtfully reverent and inspiring. I really enjoyed this. Your students are quite fortunate!
