Description:
I was an avid visual artist and writer before I was a proper singer, and so I'm always finding myself connecting music with the other two disciplines.

I've created two songs in relation to visual art--particularly perspective drawing. This is the second of the two.

As I approached these songs, I thought: How would one portray perspective drawing as sound...vanishing points and horizon lines?

This song is an initial sketch, created impressionistically in my usual improvisational style and then quantized and sculpted of the rough edges.

It is still a work-in-progress, as I've passed it along to Bryn (biba_nova) to further expand and sonically sculpt it to his own perspective.

Bryn and I thought it would be interesting to post this version so that you can hear it in the middle of its development.

Perspective &mdash 08/21/07 - 03:44:35 PM
I get a real sense of depth. Almost as if each point is dissappearing into one of the infinite points of the horizon.

points... &mdash 08/21/07 - 06:23:27 PM
I'd say that you got the point here!

That was the sense I was going for. Thanks for taking a moment to leave a comment here :)

it works &mdash 08/21/07 - 07:34:26 PM
in the way that you envisioned. i am an renaissance man/woman myself, although I am horrible at perspective; but i know how to experience it and see it in my mind. you just took me to a strange place:thanks.

perspective... &mdash 08/22/07 - 02:58:03 PM
I remember learning to draw in 1, 2 and 3 point perspective, and how it opened up an entirely new way of seeing and drawing things. So very, very cool.

Too, I love the parallels between art and life--all in our own perspective :)

Thanks, Michael, for listening and leaving a comment here. I appreciate your support!

Interesting you say? &mdash 08/21/07 - 07:58:58 PM
Indeed, it carried me away, AS IS...the type of tune I love. Excited to hear this as evolves even farther.

Lovely stuff &mdash 08/22/07 - 06:26:52 AM
This music reminds me of some of the Durutti Column's work circa 'Dry'....a really nice sparse but melodic feel
Gotta be a fave hasn't it? yes!

Durutti Column, eh? That's very nice of you to say!

Thanks for finding your way to listen to this whilst away in China, Steve. :)

Glad you found this concept intriguing, and nice to know that others out there enjoy the experimental styles I'm exploring.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment :)

I hear things &mdash 08/27/07 - 06:34:48 PM
I hear things which do add to the impression of the viewer traveling into the picture, towards the vanishing point. Your vocalese especially gives that feeling.

This could be a Hitchcock soundtrack.

Reminds me a bit of the old 1960s sci-fi series, "The Time Tunnel."

Very interesting!

I really like your thoughts on this track.

Alfred Hitchcock? very cool.

I'm not familiar with the series you've mentioned, but I'm a Sci-Fi/Fantasy buff, which I'm sure means something....hmmm

Thanks again :)

You're . . . &mdash 08/30/07 - 03:25:00 PM
You're too young, Mysti. You missed all the good sci-fi TV series the first time round. I'll be you also missed "Lost In Space." "Danger, Will Robinson!" Oh, these young folks today who don't have any culture. It's a crime.

I really like this... &mdash 09/02/07 - 06:18:59 PM
Like its 'bones', its structure, and like the 'materials', the synth tones in particular... Which, for all their distinctive qualities, mesh very well with each other in the context of the piece, and all go well with your voice...

Of course, then Bryn will get it and next time I hear it I'll have no remembrance that it came from this beginning...(or middle)...

one or more &mdash 09/06/07 - 10:02:29 AM
there are some paintings with more than one vanishing point. muted string is interesting as a vanishing point is a device that is invisible and not heard or seen. so a muted string would connote an idea without the lingering aftereffects.
