Description:
This song is basically a D and B bed with Experimental Electronica sounds over the top. Occasionally the proper tune breaks through but you may have already stopped listening.

The weird sounds are remeniscent of telephones and modem dialogue.

My original title was, whilst working on the piece, Grating.

It could also be classed as Industrial and even 'WasteofTime'.

are really getting into this whole sound collage thing. i'm into it. you do a great job picking sounds and loops and then putting them together. i have read comments on MJ where some think if it's loops then you're cheating, but i find it harder to use them myself. totally original sound, love it.

Hey michael...... &mdash 08/23/07 - 12:54:52 AM
I once joined a forum discussion on here about loops versus real music and after I made my point, the discussion stopped. I guess I can be passionate at times.

I have a problem, called Dupuytrens Contracture, where the fingers on my left hand are being drawn towards my palm, so making it difficult for me to play a proper keyboard, and making short loops and mixing them together, for me, is almost the only way I can do some of my music.

As far as loop versus playing things yourself goes, there are always extremists, one way or another, who are radicalized through their ego, not knowledge.

Whatever works and gets the job done is my motto. (Does it make the argument any less real if I make all the loops myself and then mix and match them, or if I use a DAW/Sequnecer to arrange tracks (loops) of music I recorded earlier or other people recorded for me as part of a collaboration))?

For me, at the end of the day, loop manipulation is less painful with my hand, so that's the way things will be for me.

Take care.

Paul.

absolutely right. remember when queen used to proudly proclaim no synthesizers used? but they used effects pedals which are still altering the sound in a way that you can't do with your fingers. what about all the famous artists from history with their assistants doing much of the work?i say however you wanna do it is the right way. sorry to hear about your hands, but you are a testament to the human will to create. great stuff.

I agree with you about Queen et al.... &mdash 08/24/07 - 02:16:47 PM
The debate though probably wont go away.........

The hand problem is not getting in the way too much at the moment, it's more of a hindrance, but it may need an operation one day. It's not as bad as my father though. He has had two operations on each hand, and Ronald Reagan and Maggie Thatcher both had the same problem too, and had surgical procedures.

C'est la vie!!

Take care.

conversation between benevolent machines in a city of steel. Most riveting stuff - very evocative and rather uplifting in a weird kind of way. You never cease to intrigue! Nice work. Peace.

Hi Dajama..... &mdash 08/23/07 - 01:20:18 PM
I'm glad that I never cease to surprise at least one person. I think it would be boring to be stuck in only one or two musical ruts.

My motto's include 'Be Brash' and 'Live a Little'. I sometimes jump when there's no sense of down. What did Stephen King say? Floating......

I tried to listen to this mix again today, for improvements, and it drove me mad. I'll leave it a little while before I attempt that again!!

Take care.

Paul.

Good. Sounds like Jazz Fusion to me. And I LIKE Jazz Fusion. Very Well Done.

Jazz Fusion....... &mdash 08/23/07 - 01:25:53 PM
I know exactly what you mean with this (and I love Fusion more than most), but I've overlapped genres in a big way.

Remember...never make do with 8 tracks when 16 will do, even if they sit like someone standing, 'cus you can always mix down or render the tracks later....

And yes my blood is clear of hallucigenic substances.

Take care.

Paul.
