Austin again (2)moody (38)muddy (2)misty (5)scratchy (3)drifting (10)
Description:
Had to return to Austin to finish job. Started this on the plane down and finished in the hotel. Once again - iBookG3 GB1 Audacity production. The inyial tracks were created mostly in Audacity from sound fx - there are no actual shakers used in this song. I then added a sample from a song my daughter created with her bandmate Gabby (acoustic guitar and clicky percussion). Finally I added the "vocal" melody which is actually echoing string guitar loop from GB1.
I welcome all comments and crits - suggestions and ideas. I thought this might be a bed for something more. Or not.

Hardware:
iMac G3

Software:

Cowboy Sounds &mdash 08/23/07 - 01:34:57 PM
The entire first half of this song kept me waiting for Bono to start moaning and wailing. It has a nice dusty trail environment swirling around the headphones. It's quite beautiful.

On my first listen, I thought maybe buckhorn should do some vocals on it, but now I've changed my mind. Maybe it could be about 20 minutes longer and I wouldn't have another problem for the rest of the day.

Nice work bud, you old cow poke you.

Please - keep Bono out of this &mdash 08/23/07 - 06:03:56 PM
unless you mean Sonny - then it's OK.
I actually looped the whole song back on itself about halfway through so you could do the same a few times and get your twenty minute version. Feel free. Thanks for dropping by.

I don't &mdash 08/23/07 - 01:50:28 PM
know why, but I feel as though it's early morning on a very misty, wet morning and I'm driving through the rain in the rush hour. There's an urgency about it and yet it's strangley subdued and relaxing, M

Lovely swirl of noise and throb - -reminds me a little of U2/Passengers soundtracks. Is this the noise rainy cities make?

Great meditative music.

Rainy Windshield Wipers &mdash 08/23/07 - 02:14:16 PM
back and forth as I drive across those long, long highways in Texas. Flat lands and the glare of brightly-lit restaurants drifting by as I drive, going somewhere I haven't figured out yet, but there's a subtle urgency about this that says I can't stop, gotta keep driving...

This is one fascinating piece of music, Bud. It seems simple, but it suggests a lot more is going on, and is rippling with emotional energy. And it's also one of the best uses of the Echoing Guitar String I've ever heard. (Speaking as one who's milked that loop quite often...!)

Hey! I'm not late to this one!

Do some more with this... VERY effective soundscape here that deserves some electric leads and some desperate vocals. You're on to something good here Bud!

Be well!

Very effective &mdash 08/24/07 - 07:56:15 AM
use of sounds. Great sense of something impending. Makes me think of travel and movement, science and progress. Draws you in and builds you up for something. Not sure that the something is there yet. Honestly, don't know what I think it needs - maybe a vocal line, something chanted and repeated, building from nothing and taking over. great potential. Nice work. Peace.

nice song pic - sets the scene perfectly

i hear the wheels spinning
in a mechanical yet organic (squishy) way

i always liked that string loop

billions of neurons firing off missives

somehow they strike a balance

you had to ask!

the diagram is some mumbo jumbo about drifting goals.

i think it goes like this:

1. you set a really high goal ("I'm going to lose 10 pounds this month")
2. at the end of the month, you didn't meet the goal ("I only lost half a pound")
3. you set a new reduced goal ("I'm going to lose 8 pounds this month")
4. lather, rinse, repeat.

in about a year or so, your goal has reduced to nothing, and more importantly your weight has not reduced at all. the problem is that instead of letting the goal drift, you should have invested energy into understanding why the goal was not met, and sought a solution ("I will only dine out four times a week").

An engine of sound... &mdash 08/28/07 - 02:23:48 PM
Having just listened to Egobandit's "Sipppp" (i think it's four p's) - of which, I consumed high doses of sugar just to be in sync with - this escorts my potential crash to safe levels, but w/ a very nice sense of control - I like the restrained, steady build of the chill factor in this - Surprising, since there's a distinct feel of traveling or, movement - Not the kind of motion you'd expect would be gathered from a hotel room... Wait... Awww, nevermind...

I like it, Bud!

Thanks for the free grab! - I'm Macca, today.

Another Hard Listen &mdash 09/05/07 - 09:18:06 PM
yeah bud, this still has the same intoxicating influence over me as it did the first few times I listened to it. It's an amazingly soothing trance inducing composition.

I just listened to michael2's treatment and it's just great. I'd love to document the chain reactions that have occurred here. Too numerous to track.

Thanks for such great stuff. I love this piece. Wish I could fave it a few more times. I tried, actually.

Hey bud,

you can thank the good folks at Apple for making this song come up on my shuffle just now. I thanked them.

This is without a doubt, one of my most favorite songs on this site. Every time your pals at Apple make this blast on my iMac, I stop what I'm doing and listen. I listen hard too. It just takes me away. Man, I love it.

It's a masterpiece by my extraordinary and super critical musical standards.

Thanks again for your commitment to taking corrective actions.
