Keywords:
Virginia Woolf (1)Virginia (3)Woolf (1)atmosphere (10)Dalloway (1)Lighthouse (2)
Description:
About a year ago I found an album published in the Fifties of Celia Johnson reading from Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway and To the Lighthouse.
From the second I dropped the needle I knew I had to do something.
Still not completely finished. I still have to tweak a few of the drum sounds, probably add a couple layers of guitar for atmoshphere, things like that.
Anyway, here it is.

Hardware:
Philco turntable, Apex 415 condenser mic, MBox2 Mini, 33 1/3 l.p.

Software:

ya man. that's real static.
I had a floyd record one time that i finally broke down and bought on cd,
and there was this little part of a song that i'd always thought was the coolest part, and it turned out to just be a crackly static thing in the vinyl.
I was devistated, to say the least.

This is great &mdash 08/24/07 - 07:08:47 AM
The crackly hissing, the plummy voice, the sounds - all the parts add up to a fascinating whole. There is real hypnotic power in this. I love the treatments you have done to the voice. Great editing too - I love the dropout at "the most exquisite moment of her whole life". This is very nicely done. Peace.

fascinating and hypnotic, eh? &mdash 08/27/07 - 01:17:40 AM
Many, many thanks for your kindness...again.
All the credit is not mine though. it's that plummy voice that does it for me man.
like I said in the description, as soon as the needle crossed the initial scratchey lead in and hit the first line (which is actually the first line here too) I had chills.
Also, I suppose (although I'm sure it goes without saying) the beautifully crafted words of Virginia Woolf gave me a much better setting to work with than anything I could conjure up, you know what I mean?
But as a Whole, I'm glad you dug it.
Thanks again.

Pretty sweet! &mdash 08/28/07 - 03:49:38 AM
You put this together very well. My theory is if it sounds good, play the hell out of it ;-P And that be my take on music theory! This is really clean and crisp as well. Solid production all around! Thanks for sharing your gift.

I have pretty much the same outlook. I don't have perfect pitch; hell, I don't even know what key i'm in half the time, but I beat some sweet tunes out of my equipment.

Glad you liked it man. Thanks for taking the time.

sounds like rain &mdash 08/29/07 - 08:01:24 PM
falling through the whole thing. VW's class surgery as downtempo anthem. An unexpected morphing of original intent, and with a great, great vibe.
