Description:
A song about a guy who's stuck in the past and not used to the complicated lives we all live now days.
This was a fun song for me, inspired by a good friend and fellow song writer named Charlie Red. He used to do songs similar to this when he was on the road playing County and State Fairs up and down the west coast.
I decided to write one, just to show Charlie I could. Turned out pretty fair I think, but you be the judge.
Enjoy
Ed

A Simple Life
Word, Music and Arrangement By Edward C. Wemmerus Sr.

Verse 1
I was sittin' on my pony, at Hollywood and vine.
Tryin' to find a place to park, I didn't have a dime
My buckskins chafin' me, from ridin' down the line.
I guess I'm just a little behind the times
C h o r u s
It's just another one a life's little - disappointments.
When you just want to live a simple life
Yeah with three squares on the table, and a woman that is able.
And a good edge on your trusty huntin' knife
Verse 2
I tried to find a barber, for a haircut and a shave.
All I found were stylin' shops, and permanent waves
Its a sign of the times in the home of the brave.
No one wants to live a simple life
C h o r u s
It's just another one a life's little - disappointments.
When you just want to live a simple life
Yeah with three squares on the table, and a woman that is able.
And a good edge on your trusty huntin' knife
Verse 3
I went to by some ammunition, at a dry goods store.
And they told me that they can't get that caliber no more
Well tryin' to kill a buffalo without it is a chore.
He said " you can't kill buffalo no more
C h o r u s
It's just another one a life's little - disappointments.
When you just want to live a simple life
Yeah with three squares on the table, and a woman that is able.
And a good edge on your trusty huntin' knife
Pickin' Verse
Verse 4
I spied a pretty lady, with locks of golden hair.
It look like she had nothin on, but her underwear
When I yelled out " Hey cowgirl, come on over here."
Well all he did was look at me and stare
C h o r u s
It's just another one a life's little - disappointments.
When you just want to live a simple life
Yeah with three squares on the table, and a woman that is able.
And a good edge on your trusty huntin' knife
Tag line: ( sung twice)
Yeah with three squares on the table, and a woman that is able.
And a good edge on your trusty huntin' knife

Only so many words rhyme with "life" - and "a good edge on your trusty hunting knife" works perfectly for this cowboy send-up.
With this one and your previous posting ("Old Saddle Tramp") you've covered a wide range of cowboy song-possibilities.
Your songs are nicely structured, nicely imagined and nicely played.

I appreciate you dropping by for a listen, and your kind words.
I did this song on a lark because my song writing buddy used to sing a lot of old time cowboy songs and told stories out of the old west in the shows he used to do. Some of the songs he wrote were much better than this one, but after I recorded it and played it for him he said, "Now my boy you have come of age. You've written your first spoof of the stuff I do", or something to that effect.
I wrote a song about "Charlie Red" (my writing buddy) called "An Undiscovered Hero" which loosely tells the story of what he did on the Fair circuit up and down the west coast for many years. But I haven't posted it here or anywhere for that matter. Maybe I should, just for the fun of it.
Oh and life can be rhymed with lots of words, but putting them in a sentence that makes sense for the song is the hard part.
Thanks again for the kind words Warren
Be well
