Compelling and intense &mdash 08/30/07 - 08:53:14 AM
Nice meter changes, vocal variations, progressive energy. The guitar hits are very cool, creating a very nice build in the intro. I really like the way your melody works within the sophisticated rhythmic structure of the song, smoothing it out in a natural way, like you are thinking up the lines on the spot (especially in the verses), adding a conscious-streaming feel that aids the compelling intensity of the track. Really good drumming. Great track. [ Reply to This ]

Progressive Rock &mdash 08/30/07 - 09:12:04 AM
Sorry about the double post. Not sure how that happened. I did forget to mention that I think the song should be under Progressive Rock instead of Hard Rock. Just a thought. [ Reply to This ]

The singing voice is very good.
Feelings are transmitted.
The guitar is also good.
Destruction and intellectual.

Awesome track. &mdash 08/30/07 - 09:14:53 AM
I liked it alot. Couple thoughts on the mix. Drums sound GREAT but the hat and cymbals are TOO loud in spots. Can I suggest you lower the overall cymbals and hat mix but then send them to a bus where you compress the SHIT out of them... like WAY MORE than you think will sound good. Then fold this in under the original hat and cymbal tracks. It will support and define them the way I think you are shooting for but they won't have to be blaring.
Guitar - again, nice job and performance but the rhythm tracks lack tone. Without re-recording them perhaps you can EQ them a bit fuller.
Vocal: again I can't say anything bad about the performance but they are a little dry compared to everything else. A trick I use on every single lead vocal I mix is to copy the lead vocal to a second track, shift it a few milliseconds (20-60) ahead in time, pan it hard left or right and subtly bring it in behind the original. It will simulate a stereo room recording. The bigger the delay the bigger the "spatialization."
Look forward to hearing more. [ Reply to This ]
wishful thinking &mdash 08/31/07 - 07:49:56 AM
ahh, if only the drums were on more than one track any longer. i will try to remember this for our future recordings though. great feedback, thank you. also, i've already thought of a way to make the ending better...now on to the application. again thank you to everyone commenting.

Rage for Order! &mdash 08/30/07 - 12:43:17 PM
First off, I think you did a great job capturing the instruments - which is quite a battle in itself. I think the distorted guitar is the weakest part of the recording. It kinda seems like there is too much presence, as though you need less distortion and more room tone and warmth.
The mix is good. The vocals sit just right to my ear, especially in the chorus. You might consider a little additional processing to really polish the sound. Some of the instruments could use some stereo width to achieve the "wall of sound" this song deserves. A little more shelving will separate the instruments more clearly and strengthen the mix.
Performances are terrific - nothing beats a live drummer behind a kit. Way to hit stuff Luka!
Vocals are awesome and the harmony parts are really tasty.
The song is rocker - very Queensryche a la Rage for Order - and very well written. I sort of miss a reappearance of the acoustic part from the intro - maybe as an outro or a middle eight?
Great stuff! Good to hear some really musician-driven balls-out rock! [ Reply to This ]
really? queensryche? &mdash 08/31/07 - 07:53:30 AM
i haven't heard that one before. i love those guys, but have never thought of them as an influence...maybe on the intro. and you're right i do miss that part, i'm gonna try and work it as an outro after we tighten up the end.

Preferred this one... &mdash 08/30/07 - 05:45:18 PM
... to The Changeling that I listened to just a moment ago. I sort of agree with Tobin %u2013 there are definitely some prog rock elements to this and there's a bit more complexity to the overall structure of the song, which I like. I prefer the vocals on this track too, but maybe they could still do with a tiny bit of polish. I liked all the instrument parts and the overall sound of them together. Again, I was waiting for something a bit more from the ending... kind of petered out. But definitely my favourite of the two songs. [ Reply to This ]
Once again... &mdash 09/01/07 - 01:58:25 PM
Great performance, guys. I picked up on a Queensryche feel as well. I agree with Rob about the sound of the vocal... It feels a little "dry". As far as the performance, I like the vocal delivery here much better than your older tunes, such as "Dropping the Cross"... in which the vocals got a little grating. It's funny, because I like all different types of screaming in music, but certain kinds just rub me the wrong way. Not in this tune, though. The instruments and everything else sounded good to my ears, but I was listening through cheap headphones. [ Reply to This ]
the vox better be better &mdash 09/02/07 - 01:14:33 AM
yeah 'DTC" gets a bit grating, and the older stuff isn't really in tune. i'd like to think i've gotten better since high school. glad it sounded good through cheap 'phones, it usually doesn't.

rockin track.... &mdash 10/09/07 - 12:09:19 PM
only quibble is the guitar being in the same space as the vocal......try some creative ways of mixing/panning the guitar while the vocal is happening....otherwise a happening track with lots of energy.!!! [ Reply to This ]
