Description:
I chose to group this under Classical, but I'm not really sure what genre it should go under. Yes, it is mostly symphonic, but there are other genres represented also.
"Happiness" is a medley of happy pieces I've written over time. It has a giggly ending. :-)
I hope all of you enjoy it.

Cool use of song snippets! &mdash 08/30/07 - 04:29:06 PM
I really like it when the first symphony part comes in. And when it gets funky. The electric part reminds me of a spy movie piece. Cool drums... Bass is loud! Yeh, this song sure does have lots of genres. Love the banjo and the happy ending. :-) [ Reply to This ]
Re: Cool use &mdash 08/30/07 - 05:37:28 PM
I'm glad you like it Roxy. The distorted bass is purposely loud, because I think it is such a cool sound. I did have a hard time keeping the track from clipping though.
God bless,
Rick

Hi Enrique! Thank you for the kind words sir. I used some new loops in GB3 plus JP3 & JP4, with extensive editing.
I'm glad you enjoy it. :-))

Certainly... &mdash 09/11/07 - 10:13:31 PM
...captures a light and happy feeling at the beginning and then you are off to something that's a little foreboding but no less appealing. ... Yes, it IS a symphonic poem of sorts---fun to listen to but the mix of so many styles is hard to get a handle on from a "unified composition" perspective. Nevertheless, it sure is a delightful mix of things. How you mix all those loops is a mystery to me. You have such a creative mind in that regard. I can only imagine what you'd do if you had a whole orchestra at your disposal. Awesome, really. Oh, and I, too, love the deep deep bass.
Peace.

Re: Certainly &mdash 09/12/07 - 06:22:27 PM
Thank you for your perspective Paul and your kind comments. Yes, I agree that it wasn't a "unified composition", per se. It was purposefully an experiment with different styles, and I apologize that it was hard to get a handle on. It was meant to be a medley of happy sounds with the unifying theme being happiness. I appreciate your thoughts and am glad you liked it nonetheless.
God bless,
Rick

This . . . &mdash 09/22/07 - 09:20:05 PM
This has a 'live' feel to it, as if you were not using loops. I really like all the piano parts. Effective piano playing is my favorite thing to listen to, loops or not. Sounds like something Billy Joel might have had fun creating.
Now I hear the strings. Reminds me a bit of "Lady Madonna" from the Beatles. Cool effect.
Love the photo. Really makes you want to click 'play.'
OK, the bar-room style piano is something I might not have expected from you, Rick. :-) You're a man of many layers.
Love those piano licks. I'll have to try to learn some of those.
Last section -- I recognize that synth loop. It's used a lot, because it's so catchy and funky. And you use it well.
James Bond! What a great guitar sound.
All the genre-changing reminds me of "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen.
Yes, the banjo is a nice touch! Deliverance was a great movie.
The giggles are good. I've used that giggle loop myself. Very effectice.
Great work, Rick! A fun ride.

Hiya John,
I am so pleased that you had fun with this. I wish I could actually play like that, but I still had loads of fun putting the loops together. Music is great, isn't it? I thank our Lord for giving us music.
God bless,
Rick

Beautiful music &mdash 09/27/07 - 08:55:00 AM
I don't understand loops at all but this is a really nice piece of music! [ Reply to This ]
Re: Beautiful music &mdash 09/28/07 - 06:29:46 PM
Thank you for stopping by and for the compliment Mark. A loop is a segment of music played over and over again. With Garageband and two of the Jam Packs, I have literally thousands of these segments to choose from. Instead of writing musical notation by hand, the challenge is to find the segments of music that fit what I want to say (musically), then putting them together seamlessly in Garageband.

So I assume &mdash 09/28/07 - 08:24:21 PM
that you can change the key or tempo of each loop to fit them together? [ Reply to This ]
Re: So I assume &mdash 09/29/07 - 09:59:05 AM
Yes you can. You can also edit the loops to change individual notes and their characteristics.

Hello Rick! &mdash 11/03/07 - 09:10:05 AM
I guess we'll have to call the genre "Classical Rick", You've impressed me with your mixing skill; a real pleasure listening to this, no boring parts, that's for sure. Good work, brother.

Classical Rick. That's a good one Joe. :-) Thanks for the listen and for the nice comment. I don't know why I checked my profile to see if any of my songs had been listened to lately, but I'm glad I did or I would have missed yours. Too bad MJ can't tell us when our work has been commented on.
God bless you Joe,
Rick

Hi Rick: This is my first listen to you, as I'm totally new to MJ. I get that there are loops in there, but I can't pick them out at all, which I guess is a very high compliment. I love the transitions, piano, orchestral, and the ending leaves me feeling just as the song indicates. You're really talented and I'm looking forward to checking out your other works. (Oh, and I LOVE the boogie bass!) [ Reply to This ]

Thanks for stopping by Magnatone, and welcome to MacJams. Sorry I took so long to reply, but I didn't know you had commented. I need to ask Simon to add something that will email us when someone comments.
God bless,
Rick

I would put this under Pop Classical or even Adult Contemporary. Either way, it's really pretty, and better yet hooky. Very much reminds me of that David Foster/Bruce Hornbsy sound. Chords, riffs and melodies are all working together in a tight, pleasing way! [ Reply to This ]
Very nice. &mdash 04/01/08 - 08:40:40 AM
