Nice!
I feel a Philip Glass vibe here.
Love the keys and strings.
Great choice of sounds and key changes.

Can I &mdash 09/03/07 - 04:45:54 AM
be the first to say this is a 'Stellar' performance; love the changes giving the feeling of vastness and movement. Nice and calming; background synth combination is great, M

stellar: LOL

sometimes using a huge reverb in the background really works wonders!

I like how the drum shift in relation to the song - both supporting and challenging the melody. Also cool to here the piano take on pizzicato tones near the end. Very intriguing piece. I can never count - what was the time signature?

it's all in 4/4 time. but...

there is a lot of alternating with triplets, and just lots of triplets in a few sections.

the drums are brought in against the beat here and there. it one spot, i regrouped the triplets in the pizzicato strings into groups of four and played a standard rock beat on it, so it's pretty disorienting there. i kinda liked that effect.

the opening piano stuff is played verbatim at the end, and that second piano section is actually a reversal of the pattern that eventually arrives played by strings later on.

i'm still rediscovering the effect of playing two different simple triads against each other to form much fuller shades of tone. it's fun!

thanks

sometimes i love staring up at the sky at night - it brings everything down here into perspective.

thanks

way cool &mdash 09/05/07 - 03:03:04 PM
harkens to movie endings: Dark Star or 2001 -- as well as to standing out next to an observatory rubber-necking on a very dark night......

Very cool

Bill, this is planetarium goodness. Love the way the piano bounces over the strings. Almost a Metheny like feel. The quality of sounds used is excellent as are the changes. Very cool piece.

Move over Keith Emerson! Niiiiiiiiice stuff Bill. Damn near epic. Fabulous tones on that piano. Judicious and effective use of synth-strings. This is now my absolute favorite piece by you bro. I can't wait to play this one for Diane when she gets back from visiting relatives abroad. She loves good piano music. This will blow her mind. Thanks for sharig this sonic trip to the stars!

Be well!

Mix Master &mdash 09/14/07 - 02:48:37 PM
I think I here some of your transposition tricks at work here. Nice piece. You are the Mix Master!

transposition was done on the strings, but the keys were mostly played as is here. i was playing in two different keys, one for the left hand, one for the right.

i did mess with the transposition on the strings to link together the sections of the keys a bit...

thanks for listening!

Beautiful Bill :-) &mdash 09/23/07 - 03:00:06 PM
Love your piano playing, and it felt a little like NOVA on PBS :-) There are few things more awe inspiring than the stars on a clear night.

i think the Leonids are the best: in November the night sky is pretty reliably clear, and the seeing is usually excellent... even near the big city lights.

thanks
