First thing's first. I'm sorry if I haven't been around for a while. I've had some major tech problems and I was also on vacation for a while.
This is a fun little song I threw together and I hope you'll like it.
I did a bunch of songs that I'll be posting soon.
This one was the corniest, popiest thing I did.

Nice to have a new track from you Dave - this has got an 90's manchester feel to it - Happy Mondays/ Jesus Jones sorta fell, and groovy as hell - this had me bopping round the room!
On my speakers, i gotta say the vocal sounds low to me ...I'd rather have you more upfront in the mix. Great drums, and groovy as hell - worth the wait, man!

This is very poppy (kinda like the seed). It is a very enjoyable track. I like the mix of different drums. And the overt "yeahs" just make this so obviously mainstream that its almost funny. It puts a smile on the face. Nice production. [ Reply to This ]

I have real problems with the vocals. I mix with headphones(high quality) and then listen on the monitors. Too quiet in headphones, too loud and/or just right on speakers.
Any advice. Should I mix for headphones or speakers, because, for some reason, it's totally different.

problem. i generally find i get a better mix if i mix with monitors (just discovered this recently). i start off with the volume low, and after i get a rough mix going, i'll turn it up a bit and walk into another room and give it a listen. i have problems with bass, my monitors and headphones love it, but when i mix it seems to get lost, so i have to do a little guess work and over compensate by cranking it a little louder than i want it to be. i think your stuff sounds great. Well it sounds like vacation did you good. I really like this tune and it's the most fun track you've done, fer sure. Very cool chorus - ba-da-da-da da!!
The drum track is really crazy and the female vocals are just perfect. Your singing is continuiously getting better.

Great stuff. As already said, has an 80's vibe to it, but no bad thing. I like the cowbell sound in the background (bring it up in the mix).
Agree with Steve's comments about the vox being too low, but famale b.vox are great - sexy as hell! Or is that just me???

I don't like decades.60's, 70', 80's, 90's or this one. Music is music and it doesn't matter when it's from...............but it does sound like the 80's.

it's good to have you back and posting - nothing like a bit of corny pop to brighten the day - the girl sample is the icing on the cake. I know what you mean about getting the vocal levels right - perhaps they're a tiny bit low in the mix but I don't think it matters really. Great stuff.

Very poppy! Totally dancin'! I agree on all the vocal callouts. I have the same problem:
When I mix with headphones ( and I try no to if I can help it) then the vox come out too loud when I listen them on the monitors. I also have found that I have my monitors too close to my listening position. This (I have been told by pro audio studio dudes) makes the mix sound more like the headphones, but not necessarily more "accurate". If you have 4-5' between your monitors you have to be at least 5' back to listen to them. I have recently discovered that not sitting this distance away from the monitors makes the vocals seem less loud, and therefore I am now (sitting farther back) tending to mix them louder. Who knew that a 2' distance would make such a difference. Now I just have to go back and remix about 1500 songs.......

I appreciate your advice. I'll try to tinker with it a little more. But, I think I'm getting better. I'm sort of working with limited gear, too. So, we'll see.
P.S. My thoughts are with you and all on Sept. 11th. I think you have a big N.Y. connection. I can remember of your posts mentioning that. I believe the song "Nothing" describes your thoughts.
