Description:
The full title of this piece of experimental music is 'A Funny Thing Happened When I Got To The Opera' but it wouldn't fit in.

This is a tongue-in-cheek experiment with meaning out of nonsense or practise phrases.

I'm sure there's a whole opera trapped in here somewhere.

Sorry if this offends your ear but it is a bit of fun.

until the fat lady sings. i could see this in the soundtrack for some old Mel Brooks movie, or a silent movie. really cool. where did you get the vocals from (or have you been practicing?)

Hi Michael..... &mdash 09/12/07 - 03:34:03 AM
The sounds all came from a very old sample CD that I bought as part of a set in 2000. I've used some of the loops from other CD's in this set in past mixes but had forgotten about the disks because I have so many sample disks now, but found them whilst 'flat-tidying'.

The sample set is called 'Data Becker Monster Pack'. They made two versions, one slightly updated. The set was cheap and in the early days I knew nothing about the importance of quality in the loops.

The vocal part was laid down first, as it sounded zany as I added phrases together. Then there were two tracks of Classical backing. One specifically 'not-strings' and another one that was strings. My main task was the key changes or fitting the backing with the gurgling voice.

Thanks for visiting.

Paul.

Some very funny parts. Some potentially offensive, but sometimes you have to take some risks to have a good time with samples like these.

Thanks

Hey Bill &mdash 09/17/07 - 02:51:21 AM
I'm wondering what you found that was potentially offensive in this piece. To me it has no words and is not aimed at anyone on here and is something I put together as a bit of fun.

If anyone took offense to this piece it would surely be offense of their own making. I will remove this piece if you come up with a good enough reason. I would not want to be misinterpreted, especially when no offense was intended.

Drop me a note if you don't want to put the response in here, but I've put my comment in here because any offense would be unintentional and I need anyone who cares to see this.

Paul.

I didn't mean potentially offensive in that way. I meant in the way opera style singing sounds. To me operatic singing is always at or over the limit for what sounds good from vocal chords. So, in hindsight I probably shouldn't have commented because I do not particularly care for opera and didn't mean to disparage your arrangement, which sounds like it accomplishes what you meant.
Sorry for the mixup.

Bill

I can live with speculative offense.

It's direct offense that I couldn't live with.

Thanks for your feedback.

Take care.

Paul.
