Description:
This is an update of M and M with drums by gregd and some bass by me added. I also trimmed a couple bars, so it is a little shorter. Thanks to Greg for the drums, and to everyone who commented on the drum free version. My wife gave the drums her seal of approval. I hope you like the new version also.

talent &mdash 09/13/07 - 04:40:45 PM
You are very talented here and I think the addition to the drums as well as the bass fill alot of this jam. I like the direction the music is going. I would compare it to an elaborate equation. The song is very precise.

Precise is what I often strive for in composition, I think to counter balance how sloppy I can get when practicing different ideas. Maybe I will let loose in my next tune....

Thanks for listening and commenting.

Thanks for your continued support. The guitar is a straight GB voice called "sunburst lead" sometimes you can stumble on something that sounds good.

cool idea! the sparkling guitar shimmers atop the percussion & bass - it's a swell combo and makes for a really interesting mood. consider me jazzed - anne

Echo &mdash 09/14/07 - 09:56:25 PM
Your echo-effect, while simple in concept, really shines on this piece. And I really do adore the Wurly-like keyboard. I used to have a Wurlitzer electric piano, and it was a great instrument.

Guitar work is really good. I once hear Phil Keaggy in a solo concert where he used a live echo effect to accompany himself. This compares favorably with that performance.

A very enjoyable track.

How . . . &mdash 09/14/07 - 10:00:04 PM
How do you get that date-last-commented to flash in bigger, red numbers? You go to your artist page, and some dates-last-commented upon have various bright colors. Must be some HTML magic that I'm not privy to.

I got this from DeputyDoofy, I don't recall what the thread was called:

<script type="text/javascript" languaage="javascript" src="http://mywebpages.comcast.net/doofymusic/newComments.js"></script>

Its pasted into the very beginning of my bio section in Account Information. I find it handy for quickly noting where recent comments have come in without reading the dates.

The echos are a lot of fun to play along with. I will see if I can find some Phil Keaggy and check out what he does. Its always good to hear from you.

Hi, thanks for stopping by. Guitars without too much fuzzy distortion are probably the best for playing with echos, you might come up with something really cool! I'll be listening.

I like the reverb- &mdash 09/16/07 - 01:59:07 PM
I didn't get to hear the original version, but I really like this. The drums are great - they are mixed in there just right. The contrast between the shimmery guitar sections and the more rhythmic sections of the drums with the keyboard is good. It has an easy flow between sections, too.

Kristyjo &mdash 09/16/07 - 04:22:08 PM
The piano and guitar are unchanged from the original. There were no bass or drums in the original. The drum loop I started with was okay but didn't really add to the music once the piano and guitar were recorded over it, so I left it off. At first I could not come up with a bass part that helped the song. Greg agreed to put some drums to the song and after I heard them I got the idea for some simple bass to give the tune a little more depth. I'm glad you enjoyed the piece, with school starting I haven't been able to get much done lately.

Meandering. &mdash 09/20/07 - 08:25:25 PM
Kinda wanders a bit but it's definitely going somewhere. Where - I can only speculate but towards a resolving chord and... nope I guess I was mistaken no resolve - a fade out. Kinda unfocused but mildly engaging pour moi. Bon chance.

bonnieprincejohnny &mdash 09/21/07 - 03:37:04 PM
No, there is no dramatic resolving chord here. My next tune plans to have a resolving chord, but I can't guarantee how dramatic it will be until I get it all recorded. Thanks for the comments :)

shimmering and upbeat &mdash 09/22/07 - 03:19:09 PM
Sort of a feel-good tune... the guitar is on the edge of that distorted saw-blade sound for me, but not quite over the edge, still enjoyable without being grating. I liked the intriguing melody and refrain, and there was enough changing throughout to keep it fresh. The deep bass throb was nice, not overdone, but added warmth. And the drums fit this quite nicely! There's room for a little sprinkling of something else here and there to add spice, maybe a synthy arpeggio bubbling up a few times through the song... but overall its like the perfect drink... well mixed and satisfying. :-)

Thanks for the comments. I think I still have a way to go before I am confident with adding the finer touches, so this mix will stand for now. I am glad you liked the bass, its hard adding bass after the majority of the song has taken shape.
Peace

Sorry to hear about the auto notification. Mine still works, but I sometimes fall behind anyway. And besides, its nice to get some comments after the first week. I was very happy when Greg said he would do the drums, I'm working on it, but my drum efforts still sound loopy.

Nice use of rhythm &mdash 03/16/08 - 12:11:59 PM
I like the use of the off-beat rhythms through out the piece. And the use of the delay really suits the piece. I haven't heard the original yet, but I do like the placement of the drums and the way they support the piece overall.

Nice work.
