Description:
This was a song I wrote in 1990 and was originally done as a waltz. I thought I would see what I could do with it in GB so I put together what for me are some unusual backing tracks and force fed the lyrics to it in Cubase LE.
It's kind of a cross between Funk, Raggae, and Country Rock.
Never having finished a real song in GB before I'm not sure how it came out. I will say this, I hate the vocal part I did so if anyone wants to take a try at redoing the vocal, let me know.
Anyway, here it is, my first ever GB song.
I hope it pleases you
Ed

What Do You Know About Love
Words, Music and Arrangement By Edward C. Wemmerus Sr.

Verse 1
I was sittin' and drinkin' and thinkin' bout you
and how you had broken my heart
When I saw her walk by, she smiled n' said hi,
her beauty was like precious art
She sat down beside me, and started to guide me
like the wind guides the flight of a dove
In a voice that was pleasin' she said kind-of teasin'
what do you know about love
Chorus
I said love is a feelin' that causes you pain
a thing for which no one should try
She said love is the wonder of warm summer rain
love is what keeps you alive
Verse 2
We walked to the car and drove from the bar to a place by the old river stream
We talked for a while, and she started to smile
and told me that she had a dream
To find her a lover, to finally discover, the man God had sent from above
And when she had found him, to wrap love around him
sayin' what do you know about love
Chorus 2
I said love is a woman with nothin to gain
one who gives you a reason to try
She said love is the wonder of warm summer rain
love is what keeps you alive
she said love is what keeps you alive

for the life of me understand why you hate the vocal on this... IT'S FINE! You have a great voice, pitch perfect, clear and melodic and it's that, that 'carries' the song.I like the song too and your arrangement, except that I think 'simple 'might have been better still, without the loops (or make them a little more subtle), which just seemed for me, a bit separated from the other instruments. It's a very good first song in GB though and I do appreciate that it needs a bit of getting used to at first, regards M [ Reply to This ]

I guess I just couldn't really get into the vocal on this, because originally the song was written and recorded as a waltz with a completely different feel to it. I had a hard time getting into the groove vocally with the tracks on this.
If the back tracks of the original were recorded and done better, I might have uploaded it that way, but I wasn't happy with them so I tried this approach instead. Besides, it gave me a reason to try out some of GB's features and see what I could get out of it. And you're right, it does take a bit of getting used to.
Regardless, thanks for the kind words Maurice, I'm glad you stopped by for a listen.

Sorry for the delay posting a reply.
Glad you like this song, it was fun trying to use GB to redo it. As I told Maurice, it was originally written and recorded as a waltz, which makes this a bit of a stretch for me recording it this way.
One of these days, I'll get the time to redo the original as it was first done and then we'll have something to compare it to.
Thanks again for the listen, and your kind words
