Description:
This is a song done by myself and a fellow musician named Brian Scott in 1994. Brian was a young man of about 17 and just finishing up High School when I met him. He wanted to do recordings for his High School Senior project of some songs he'd written and asked me if I could help him.
The songs weren't really complete when he brought them to me, they were mostly just a rough verse and chorus, so I took him under my wing and helped him rewrite them into finished songs. Then we went into the studio and put together the music for them so he could sing them. He played piano on the three songs we recorded for him, and I did all the other stuff. Just so you know, he got a A+ on his Senior project for our efforts.
After he graduated high school we put together a due act using backing tracks recorded on DAT tape I put together in the studio for us to use. Then we'd play live guitars and sing the vocals and harmony parts on stage. We never got rich doing it, but we had a lot of fun and made a little money as well. On top of that, it gave Brian his first real experience playing professionally and hopefully helped him on his way to where ever the music takes him. The Duo was call Scott & Walker, simply because not many people can figured out how to say my last name correctly, so to make it easier to remember we chose that name.
After about a year and a half, Brian moved to Arizona to attend college so we disbanded our little duet and some years later I move to Arkansas and lost touch with Brian. I can't help but wonder what he's doing now, and if he still does the music.
Anyway, this is what I think is the best of the 3 songs we recorded for his school project.
It's a fast Country song that rocks and kind of reminds me of something Buddy Holly might have done. Brian, who has a gifted voice in my opinion sang the lead vocal on this song. I hope you enjoy it and thanks for listening.

Why Can't You See What You're Doin' To Me

Verse 1
I remember all those days, you wanted me to know.
Things like how you'd never leave me, Loved me so.
Now that, that's all changed, our love's at the end of the line
You wanna go our separate ways. Nows the time
Chorus
Rememberin' the way you used to touch me
You gave me that type of love, Wild and free
Then you lock away my love, and throw away the key.
Why can't you see what you're doin' to me, --- Baby
Why can't you see what you're doin' to me.
Verse 2
Do you remember in out past, the things we used to do,
Then we gathered all of them, Find someone new.
Living here without you, is not how it's supposed to be.
Told me our love would last forever, Lie to me
Chorus

Yeah, we kinda kicked it up a notch on this one. I wanted this song to drive the point home, and I think I got it almost right. If not, it's just gonna have to be close enough.
Thanks for the kind words Feter

Thanks for the comments Egobandit, I'm glad you liked it.
The young man that cowrote and sang this song was about 18 at the time. He had, and I imagine still has, a really special voice and singing talent. Unfortunately he was not mature enough to realize at the time that to make it in the music business requires a lot of hard work. I told him it's about a 90% to 10% ratio where it requires 90% hard work and about 10% talent.
I'm not sure if he ever learned that lesson, since I haven't seen him now in about 8 years.
Anyway, thanks again for the kind words.

Very nice Ed! &mdash 09/25/07 - 08:06:05 PM
Damn fine job on this indeed. I like the little pause at the end of each line in the verse. cool! This has a real upbeat kind of click to it as well. Hey, is that vibrato on the vocals, digitally enhanced or all natural? Merely curious. Pretty spicy graphic too. Great production and pickin my friend.

Thanks Ax &mdash 09/26/07 - 03:57:01 PM
Actually that is the singers real voice without anything on it except just a little reverb. He is also the co-writer of the lyrics on this and a very talented singer.
This was a special song that we did together to help him graduate from high school. It was his senior project and I wanted to help him to really kick some butt when he presented it to his class and the music teacher. And man did he ever kick butt.
He was a good kid needing a little help and guidance along the way, so I gave it to him.
Thanks again for the kind words Ax.

Thanks Davis &mdash 10/03/07 - 10:03:16 PM
Ya know, a long time ago I was a DJ at a local radio station around here, and I used to love picking up The Statler Bros album and playing a cut or two of their songs off that album for the local folks during my show. I'm talking in the middle 70's now as far as the time period is concerned.
So I'll tell you what Davis, I consider that one hell of a compliment to have my song mentioned in the same sentence as the Statler Bros Band.
Thanks for listening, and for the kind words.

This has a bit of the Poco sound... &mdash 10/16/07 - 07:43:25 PM
... maybe the first country/folk rock band. This rocks real nice and the lead singer is approaching Rich Furay territory. Everybody's together on this one, making it enjoyable, light, and fun...

Poco is good, &mdash 10/16/07 - 09:31:11 PM
But I've always been a Buffalo Springfield fan myself.
Thanks you again for the nod Jack.
Keep working on Lonely Nights, man it's a great song.

... like you I have been a Buffalo Springfield (more so than Poco) fan since their brief time on the scene.... that being said, this did remind me of the latter.
moving along..... [ Reply to This ]
