out of Africa &mdash 09/19/07 - 11:55:20 AM
This did sound somewhat African, with the interesting percussion rhythm, and the "choral" humming. There was a point about 1/3 in where the high voices came in where it sounded like it was clipping a bit, and I'd suggest giving the drums a touch more reverb to make this sound a little "bigger" and to soften the clinks a bit, and possible separate the voices L/R a little bit, but other than that, this was very dreamy and relaxing.

Eduard your ear is peerless, &mdash 09/19/07 - 03:31:42 PM
Yes I did have a little trouble with this mix. Part of my problem is using the new garageband with an an underpowered emac. I can barely get a short file to play for 10 seconds without choking. Makes it hard to really do a careful mix but I've been a pretty good boy this year and maybe Santa will bring me the new iMac for Christmas.

Now if Meryl Streep would agree to appear in my next film...
Best,
Charlie

very well composed and timed, I like the pic, I also agree with WK and BE thanks for the trip, it also reminds me of a welcoming morning drum chant...

You have me scrolling all over the place.
Oh yeah that's cool.
I know you get around. Sounds like you've been to the "Dark Continent" and if it reminds you of a "Welcoming morning drum chant" that makes my morning.
Best,

Nice track...has a kind of 70's Eno/Glass feel to it with those choir vox. You should extend this one out a bit perhaps?
Good stuff

hi charlie &mdash 09/23/07 - 10:48:47 AM
i enjoyed this listen -

it came from the heart, and you effectively paint a picture with those sounds... there is some clipping in the middle section - in the synth vox - check for it - i felt that it interfered with the dreamy journey i had begun to take. this piece could easily be expanded into an antire suite of pieces on this theme - also, with more thematic development, I think you'd be surprised at how this piece could evolve into something really unique and brilliant in its own right - i have a piece wherein i experimented as well with some "african" sounds- it's called Rain Dance. check it out- and thx for sharing!

I like you thoughts... &mdash 09/24/07 - 02:04:19 PM
on this djdrshaman and yeah that clipping will be taken care of in its next incarnation. Also checked out your Rain Dance and it's terrific stuff.
Best,
Charlie

Timeless... &mdash 09/23/07 - 03:51:35 PM
...wow, this is amazing. The mood and colours are rich and tangible; I swear I can smell the hot air moving across the grasses of the Sarengeti.

How did you do the choir voices?

[ Reply to This ]
Great to hear... &mdash 09/24/07 - 02:09:08 PM
such nice things about Serengeti Rik. Thanks.

The choir was from the African Jam pack voices but I layered and made chords from them as well as modifying their quality further in GB.

You almost always have to do that with every instrument they have.
Take care Rik and thanks for dropping by,
Charlie
