Description:
This is a test recording I did to determine proper mic placement for the latest guitar amp I built (see photo above or click here for more information). I was particularly interested in optimizing for "clean" settings.

The piece was improvised on the spot, but I like it enough that I will probably being working on it to tighten arrangement and post as a full song (possibly with Tiny Man Inside).

There is no processing on this track - just the sound of the amp fed dry into a JoeMeek JM37 microphone.

The song is dedicated to my future daughter, whose due date is Feb 1.

I would say the levels sound about right. You can hear the sublte sounds that come with guitar playing, however it didn't interrupt or distract from the sound. It actually authenticated it.

yeah, you can hear me breathing in the background, along with a few sounds of me moving around on my chair... gives it a kinda weird feel, but as this was really just an exercise in testing my new amp, I felt that it didn't detract from the piece.

I'm going to work on this and hopefully turn it into a real song.

But it seems you did a fine job with this one, that's a sweet guitar tone. I like the extra sounds (breathing etc.) that make this super genuine.

this was really a quick improv that I did just to get a feel for mic'ing the amp... kinda a reference for when I record it for some of the songs we're (TMI) working on. It's funny that the mic picked up the breathing, since the amp was relatively loud at the time.

your test tunes sound great. I don't know many guitarists who work as hard on the details as you do. good luck on the baby!
