Description:
The lyrics to this are ninety percent true – there is someone in my office (marketing support to a nationwide retail chain) that really does fit this almost perfectly… Of course this is a little bit tongue-in-cheek!
Lyrics:
Ten years is a bloody long time, I wish I could retire
‘Coz every hour I’m in here with you sends my blood pressure higher
And every time you start to speak peace and quiet I yearn
Every time I’m on the phone your ears start to burn
You really are the most paranoid person
That I’ve ever known
My head is like a whirling dervish
by the time I get home
You manipulate every word that anyone says
You make drama out of nothing just to try and impress
Any work the bosses like you claim that it is yours
You’re fooling them but you don’t fool me or any of the stores
You really are the most paranoid person
That I’ve ever known
My head is like a whirling dervish
by the time I get home
Those cheap CDs you’re playing are driving me ‘round the bend
I hear Mrs Mills, and Mantovani, I wish that it would end
You keep threatening to leave, and then never do
I must have been bad in a previous life to deserve someone like you
You really are the most paranoid person
That I’ve ever known
My head is like a whirling dervish
by the time I get home (x2)

is my favourite Peter Bauckham song - great lyrics (I think I know him too) and lovely melody. I agree with Feter about the Eastern feel which I love. Where did you download the Early Learning Centre Shaker and Triangle from? I want them too.
Cheers

HaHaHa &mdash 09/22/07 - 05:29:30 PM
I keep them hidden in a plastic box in the corner... The triangle's rather good but the shaker sounds, well like a kiddies one - needs rather a lot of tweaking in the mixing. I guess, although purely by chance, the eastern feel goes with title! Funny how things turn out! Glad you like it.
Thanks and all the best

Such &mdash 09/22/07 - 06:09:58 PM
a nice clear voice you've got and it's great. I love the backing and the beat, which would stand up even without the vocal; really catchy; and as Feter said "eastern" sounding, but it would be wouldn't it? for the title's sake. The lyrics came as a suprise to this backing I must say and although it seems to be getting you down, it comes across as a funny sitiuation. You have a way with words LOL. Nice work as always Peter, cheers M [ Reply to This ]
You're &mdash 09/22/07 - 06:21:53 PM
absolutely right about the title/eastern sound - although it was really by chance that it turned out this way - it was written as a simple acoustic folk song and got embelished somewhat. I like to juxtapose jolly/catchy tunes with lyrics that suggest something completely different. I was trying not to be too cutting on this one and I think it's nice to have a bit of humour thrown in for a change.
Thanks for listening.

The slight eastern flavour was by chance but it works so well. I like to upload a song a month but find it hard to find the time. Glad you enjoyed this one - I appreciate your support.

she'll only take credit for it as well.
Well I really can relate. Why do they always migrate to advertising and marketing?
Great tune, light and bouncing and a polite way of telling them off.
Usually four letter words pop into the scenario in my experiences.

A polite &mdash 09/23/07 - 02:55:31 AM
telling off indeed! I did tone this down a bit because I decided that it was a little bit too harsh - but passing someone elses work off as there own is inexcusable.
Thanks for listening

Peter.... &mdash 09/23/07 - 02:28:41 AM
... that trip to the Early Learning Centre was certainly worth it. Greta little poppy tune - I love the jangly guiatr on this, and the low string sounds in the chorus.
This reminds me of every team meeting I have.
Do people still play Mrs Mills??!
Nice work!

Hard &mdash 09/23/07 - 03:01:27 AM
to believe Steve isn't it - Mrs Mills does still get a dusting off in Sevenoaks, where I work. I'm pretty good at switching off but at times I have to rebel and take Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash or Nina Simone in (who 'someone' though was a man)! I think I've exhausted the toy box of instruments - have to go a get some new ones!
Cheers

Thank you Caroline. &mdash 09/23/07 - 12:00:16 PM
Well no, not yet, but I have played this to another collegue who knew who it was about without me saying anything. Gave us a good laugh! I don't think they'd own up to hearing it. Glad it made you smile.

Wow! &mdash 09/23/07 - 11:42:58 AM
This is way cool Peter! This could be Oysterband-Lite...
Awesome lyrics! We've all met anal self-promoting hacks like this. How the hell do they sleep at nite? No conscience perhaps?
Oh well. Great tune! Gandhi taught us to channel our anger into constructive projects and you have done this here and done it well. Love the music and, of course, I always enjoy your singing.
Be well my friend! [ Reply to This ]
Hi Mike &mdash 09/23/07 - 12:07:29 PM
Thanks for dropping by and for the compliments. I rather like the Oysterband (I'm a bit a a folkie really). I find writing about something (or someone) that really drives you mad is an excellent way of dealing with it - even better if you can inject a little humour with it too! Thanks again - glad you enjoyed it.

This might be my first PB post, I totally love this! what grabs me are the melodies and sounds, it is true to what its based on mid east rythyms, very nice PB [ Reply to This ]

Well, &mdash 09/24/07 - 04:38:09 PM
I am mildly obsessed with Rumi and his whirling, so I was surprised when I started listening to the lyrics. But then I got such a kick out of this. I think it's funny.
You make this silly (and oh so human) office situation into this melancholy/catchy-sounding song. I like that [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Estella &mdash 09/24/07 - 05:41:33 PM
Always nice to hear from you. Yes, with the title you'd be expecting something very different! Great that you found this amusing - I try to inject a little bit of humour in many of my songs! Thanks again for listening.

Yeah, it's a great word. I think my collegue should become a headline writer... Today's news could be 'England devistated by gail force winds' meaning 'Slight breeze in the South'.
Thanks for listening

in fact I know lots of people like this. The bigger the organisation the more HR and marketing tossers appear.
Great subject for a song Peter and excellently done :-)

Hi Dick &mdash 09/25/07 - 05:42:58 AM
Yes, I'm sure every work place has them - it drives me 'round the bend (as you may have guessed). I can't be bothered with 'sucking up' to the bosses - I'm too world weary for all that. Cheers for listening.
Peter [ Reply to This ]
Have you played this at work yet? &mdash 09/25/07 - 01:36:34 PM
Would be fun to see the reaction hehe. I work in an office too, luckily my colleagues are all pretty cool but I have had a few eccentrics to deal with down the years. Well...at least it provides good material for a song hehe
Nice one

I did play this to another collegue - It didn't take long before they realised who it was about! Gave us a good laugh! Perhaps they'll check MacJams sometime... I don't think I'd want to own up if I thought it was about me.
Thanks for listening and you support Steve.

" I must have been bad... &mdash 06/18/08 - 07:20:26 PM
in a previous life to deserve someone like you." You made me laugh. Yep! That explains it, exactly. Because, I sure didn't do anything, this time around. Great way to get rid of the frustration. Inspiration is always worth whatever gets you there. Enjoyed that, I did! :) [ Reply to This ]
