Description:
A song about October and it's change of season. Me, I prefer summer.

Lyrics:
October

orange is the moon as it rise
orange are the leaves summer leaves behind
and it gets dark way to soon
the long shadows from behind the trees
the skies are gray fog brings a haze

chorus:
so long summer here comes october
days are not as long as I remember
october

it gets so cold in this rain
when will I see the sun again
how I miss the warmth on my face
a hard wind blows calling names
voices rustle down the street

chorus:
so long summer here comes october
days are not as long as I remember
october

look around nature self-destructs
life is dying during this month
getting closer to the day of the dead
all the black ravens collecting in the tress
with there caws they're mocking me

chorus:
so long summer here comes october
days are not as long as I remember
so long summer here comes october
days are not as long as I remember
so long summer here comes october

Octoberfest! &mdash 09/23/07 - 12:12:38 PM
Love that time marches on feel of the drums and your voice has that cool fall tinge to it in this, great chorus Vic and as usual the guitars are top notch!

I kept the drums super simple to march in to fall with.
But what's octoberfest without the seasonal microbrews!

Thanks again Tom

I agree that during that time music was very creative with the mind of breaking rules and experimenting. Someone has to carry the torch. I'm really glad that you approve!

a great hook in your songs Vic. Of course this has your distinctive sound and style - which I love. Nice mixing, awesome guitar work and excellent lyrics.

Great!

the hook line came about just kicking back and dinking around on a acoustic. everything else fell into place after that.

I was stumped for lyrics for quite a few days. I was noticing the leaves on the bushes where already getting some color, the whole idea came about. I spent twenty minute on them. That sure doesn't happen everyday.

Great sounds, good hook, good mix - can't ask for much more.

Except maybe a win on the lottery......

Good to see you back.

Now if I ever won the lottery, I would pay people to do this stuff. Without health benefits of course.

Time to put away the box fan :-) &mdash 09/23/07 - 02:06:11 PM
All the black ravens collecting in the trees (I'm feeling Edgar Allen Poe - absurdly enough.) Love the feel the music has of a sort of relentless macabre march, and the lyrics have that "time running out" allusion. Summer - Sigh!, it was beautiful for the few months that it lasted. Cest la vie. Cool tune Vic! Dress warm, and Be well, Bud.

Hi Carole &mdash 09/23/07 - 09:26:59 PM
I put the box fan in the closet just yesterday.

The ravens collecting in the trees is true. around this time of year there's a mass collection of them. over 200 easily. The neighbor has a huge pine tree that just fills up with them. When they all take off together the sound of all those flapping wings is deafening. And always brings to mind Hitchcocks "The Birds"

Thanks again Carole

I'm happy that you liked this. There are quite a few little back in the mix guitars doing different things. It can take a few listens to catch them all. But thats the fun of it. Kind of like hide and seek.

Well, I guess it's officially fall now, since you had to go and write a song about it! ;-) Summers in the land of the north are pretty damn short. Great tune my friend, I enjoyed all facets very much! Packs a mean punch as well. exceptional production as per usual and I dug the staggering drums. Winter? Bring it on.

Alvin, you know how it's cooled off around here. No more jumping into Couer d'Alene Lake. At least we had a decent summer. Sure hate to see it go and it's a looong ways till we see it again.

An autumn anthem &mdash 09/23/07 - 03:34:53 PM
...with a distinctly sinister edge to it. Brilliantly coloured trees marching like Pink Floyd hammers across the landscape as surfer dudes run in terror for the endless summer that - ooops, just ended!

You're on one hell of a hot streak, Vic. More's the better for us all. Here's t'ya, matey!

Yeah it does have a bit of a sinister undertone. October can be downright creepy after dark. When i wrapped this up I kind of got the impression of a Pink Floyd as well mixed with clash. Must be the steady hard beat.

.... gimme candy!

True, the studio package. I've been wait for a long time and jumped on it the morning it came out. I've already noticed some bugs in the system. I'm sure there will be a fix on that soon. There already is a update on the Main Stage program (which is awesome).

I used to have real problems with October &mdash 09/23/07 - 04:34:39 PM
Couldn't figure out why I got so depressed - but I finally figured it was a combination of shortening days and being a college dropout. Round about October I realized I was working when I might have been Joe College.
Great production as usual - I especially like the hints of Halloween spookiness around the "days of the dead".

Sometimes I think I should live closer to the equator. The sort daylight hours and cold temps, plus the heat bills! Plus, I have the chestnut tree from hell to clean up. Those things smart when they drop. 8 months and counting

a couple days ago I was about to shelve this song because I could not think of lyrics to fit that mood of. Yesterday, I was on the front porch then it all came to me. Scribbled them out in 20 minutes. That doesn't happen everyday.

Thanks again and am glad you appreciated this.

Another classic Vicar! The chorus nearly took my head off! The lead soloing is maginifico as per usual. Very psychedelic feel therein. Then that slow and freaky instrumental section is wicked beautiful. As we kiss September goodbye, this tune is good medicine. Many thanks!

Be well!

Hey Mike! &mdash 09/23/07 - 10:29:50 PM
This took about 3 weeks to wrap up. I could only tackle it in small amounts of time. I was pretty tripped out how the little interlude came out. Found some cool synths in the new software and combined some trippy guitars with it.

I can't believe September is almost gone as well. Time needs to slow down...only on weekends and after work of course.

I like orange &mdash 09/23/07 - 10:36:31 PM
.. but, I'm not so crazy about raking it up.

Funny thing a lot of times people will discuss music in terms of color as well.

I tend to pan things around quite a bit in a mix. Even if it's just a little bit it helps when you have quite a bit of things competing for aural space.

Vic, you are rapidly becoming my favourite MacJammer - there isn't anyone else on here who plays with such abandon. I say it every review but you go to extremes others can't even get near (that lead guitar) and you are fearless in your arrangements (those stomping drums) and you mix it all together so it sounds great (the whole thing).

Ah what the hell, it's all good:-)

part of my problem is I don't know when to stop tinkering. I was also heavily influenced by music (so many years ago) that would stray off the beaten path. Must have fused some circuits in my head or it's a floydian thing!

Thanks again Phil

I hear Floyd, Tha Clash, The Doors, and ..........................Tom Petty, I know who you are Vic.

I'm glad I'm not the only one hearing a Floyd meets the Clash on this. Must be the heavy beat and all the other fringy stuff. This one took 3 weeks to put together in little bits, here and there when time allowed. I'm glad I have it out of the way now.

Cycle of Seasons &mdash 09/25/07 - 11:25:39 AM
It's a great moment when the right lyrical idea connects with a the perfect musical mood - which obviously has happened here.

In fact, this kind of success cries out for more. Perhaps you should tackle the entire calendar year and write another eleven songs - one for each month - to go with this one? Just a thought - but it could keep you busy for a whole year : >

Look out - November lies ahead!

At first I had the same idea of doing each month, then thought nah. But after a few days I thought maybe not a bad idea at all. A good idea to fall back on if I can't think of other lyrics.

Thanks for the listen!

The lyrics came from my front window gazing. Who would think to write about their front yard.

I tend to give a variety of tones to the guitars. I figure if I start losing interest in the song nothing will get done. That goes for the structure as well. Fun to create a bit of a guessing game.

marching &mdash 09/30/07 - 12:04:48 PM
Wow, you have been putting out lots of songs lately.. I've been less active for some months, and wake up to find a stack of new Vic songs. You must be having a great time making so much music.. I envy that:)

This one has the tight production I recognize from the songs I've heard with you earlier. The cool guitars with the signature Vic Holman sound.

The marching phase is a clever idea to use as a groove for this song. It gives it a strong attitude, and appears convincing and with a fixed destination.
It would be fab to hear the drums done with real drummers, having them do those roll of drums like army bands or brass bands usually do. What power a line up of several marching drummers could bring to this...

[ Reply to This ]
hey Thor &mdash 09/30/07 - 10:40:48 PM
I keep telling myself I'm going to cut back, but it seems I end up doing more.

A full marching band really would be cool to this. I kept thinking on how to expand the drums but nothing was working for me. But your idea would be great for this
