This is another one of those tear jerkers for which I am becoming famous. Oh well so be it.

Lyrics:
Season of Pain
Words, Music and Arrangement By Edward C. Wemmerus Sr.

Verse I
The Sun came up this morning.
There's a gentle breeze blowin' through the pines
There's a Robin outside my window.
Singin' while the babblin' brook keeps time
There's a trace of smoke rollin' from the chimney.
It's a remnant of the fire on our last night
But the fire has grown old, and your love has grown cold.
And it looks as if the seasons gonna change
Chorus
Through my teardrops I see you leavin'.
And the raindrops start fallin' once again
The Robin lost his song, and I wonder what went wrong.
It looks as though the seasons gonna change
I guess its just the season of pain
Verse II
The Sun came up this morning.
There's an old man fishin' in the stream
There's a farmer out by the old road.
Plowing up his field with a team
The snow has all gone from the mountain.
And the winter winds have changed in - to spring
But there's tears in my eyes, and clouds in the sky.
And it looks as if the seasons gonna change
Chorus
tag line:
Well I guess its just the season of pain

You have a really expressive voice.I'm not hearing sincerity like this in much modern country music on the radio.
I don't know how much time you spent writing those lyrics but to me those are some of the best country lyrics I've heard in a long time-honest emotion not some cute phrase like "Tequila makes her clothes fall off".
Think I'm going to dig out some old Willie Nelson records! [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Mark &mdash 09/26/07 - 04:27:07 PM
I'm clad you like the song Mark, I just wish I still had the master tapes so I could make a mix minus the guitar part and get you to play one for it.
I've gone to you page and listened to your playing. I can imagine how good it would be with you cutting the guitar track.
But alas, it's not to be and I'll just have to be happy with what I have now, or redo the whole song. Not gonna happen I'm afraid.
Anyway, thanks again for stopping by for a listen, and the kind words. Now if you don't mind, I'd like to borrow those Willie records for a few days. (lol)

nice tune! &mdash 09/25/07 - 10:18:09 PM
woven into a lot of imagery with a wispy voice. the descendo chord run is interesting. sort of trotting along and then we fall down a peg or two. sentiment seems true. repetition of motif; like robin over again makes sense on a number of levels, use it in painting a lot.
I could use more of the unexpected decending chord pattern but not just that pattern. the unexpected in a song like this is gold if you can keep the rythm of the imagery pattern and a super recognizable chord pattern overall.
like clear running water. [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Greg &mdash 09/26/07 - 04:37:03 PM
I'm glad you stopped by for a listen and enjoyed the song. I worked on the lyrics a lot to try and tell a story without it sounding contrived.
And I wanted the music on this to keep the listener interested enough to want to stay for the next line to see where it went. Hopefully I reach that point.
Thanks again for taking the time to listen and for the kind words.

That's C/ W for you.. Tears, love and great melody. Very pictorial and I love those descending chords and 7th's. I've told you before about your fine voice, but I'll say it again.. You have a fine voice LOL. I love Country, regards, M [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Maurice &mdash 09/26/07 - 04:41:03 PM
Yeah, you're right that is C/W. And I'm beginning to think I need to change genre's if I ever want to write a song that's not a tear jerker. Well maybe next time.
Glad you like my little attempt at musical story telling. Thanks again for your kind words Maurice.

Oh dear, now I have to try to live up this that. I guess I'd better get to work on it right now and put together another "masterpiece" LOL

Thank you Feter &mdash 09/26/07 - 04:57:29 PM
I kinda of lean towards the "Son of the Pioneers" on the sound of the harmony parts. Except of course they sound much better that I ever will. Still, I do feel I did a fair job on this one.
I'm very glad you like the way it turned out and that you liked the song enough to let me know. Thanks again Feter

Thanks Sonny Jim &mdash 09/26/07 - 05:04:03 PM
I have to admit I did put a lot of time and effort into the harmonies on this one. I wasn't really trying for any particular sound, just a full rich harmony to give the song some more depth and feeling. I'm really glad that you and Feter and the others noticed, it makes me feel like the extra effort paid off.
Thanks again for taking time to listen and for your kind words.

I have just finished listening to your song, "When the Sun Rises" and so I now consider you a master when it comes to music. Any one who can put together such a beautiful piece of music as that, and then would take the time to grace my songs with kind words is truly a kind person.
Thanks Yeman for listening and commenting on my work. I am not worthy.

Okay Ed....are you trying to convert me to country and western just because I live in Texas?? I mentioned before that C&W is not my favorite but I tell ya...you sure are making that difficult! I may just change my mind if you keep singing and playing like this! :) Wonderful voice, the lyrics are great. Nice smooth and sultry, just like it should be. Sounds evident to me that you were made to be a country star. [ Reply to This ]
Wow, I'm a legend in my own mind &mdash 09/28/07 - 12:49:18 AM
Gail there's an old saying, "If the shoe fits, wear it". I'm not too fond of most of what comes out of the Country music studios these days because most of it tries to be like Rock music. Of course there are some very good songs in Country, but there are getting to be far to few for my tastes. The thing about Country music that has made it stand out is that it usually tells a story that has a ring of truth to it. That's what make for a great Country song, is the story it tells and how others can relate to that story. So if something I've done here has made you think that Country music has some merit, and causes you to listen to more of it then I'm happy. We have made that all important connection.
Besides, a good song is a good song, no matter what genre it's classified as. If in some way the words and music combine to touch the heart of the listener in a good way, that's all you can really ask of any song. That it moves the people who listen to it in some way that has a positive influence on their lives is the hoped for result of expressing feelings and emotions in music.
I tend to be much too long winded, so I'll just say thank you for listening, and thank you for your kind words Gail

Dear Ed &mdash 09/29/07 - 11:43:20 AM
I have to agree with Mark, the lyrics are exceptional. They paint the atmosphere SO nicely. I am always amazed, how can someone write a text which is poetic, charming, simple but not silly and with a message in it. Everything I ever write is just embarrassing or silly :( You have got really talent Ed, wonderful words. I enjoy the simplicity of sound, very gentle and calm and very pleasant to listen to. Lovely harmonies. And your voice simply GREAT. Truly great. Very very nice song :) [ Reply to This ]
Oh Pavlina, you are too kind &mdash 09/29/07 - 01:10:24 PM
On this kind of song, the lyrics say it all.(no pun intended) All the music is there for is to give depth to the story you are trying to tell and establish the character of the song.
Thank you for coming to my song and listening. And thank you for your kind words on my singing voice. I can't take credit for the voice, just the effort I put into using it. The voice is a gift from God, and my mom and dad.
Glad you liked this song Pavlina.

Thanks Johnny &mdash 09/30/07 - 02:19:24 PM
You are right about the guitar being too low in the mix, glad you noticed that. I just wish I could have gotten the same guitar sound on this one, I got on "Pretty Flowers and Perfume". That one was right on by my way of thinking. But alas, all I have left of this one is the master I did in the 90's so I can't go back and change anything without completely re-doing all of it. That's not an altogether bad idea mind you and I just might do that when I get some time. If I do I'll let you know.
Anyway, thanks again Johnny for taking time to have a listen and for your kind words. I'm glad you liked it

Earnest Tubb! &mdash 10/01/07 - 11:09:32 AM
When I was a kid, I used to have a big box of old 45s that I inherited from my parents and older sister. This was a pretty eclectic blend of stuff; from old cowboy tunes by Ernest Tubb and Marvin Rainwater to 60s psychedelica. At the time I was too young to know music was divided into 'categories' and 'genres'... I just knew if I liked it, or not. Everything was on the same playing field.
Perhaps as a result of that, I have a deep affection for country & western music that sounds this honest and uncluttered. This is the real deal, and it really makes me long to hear that kind of music on the so-called "country" stations these days.
I think I'm going to go find a freight train yard, and play a harmonica while a slow freight clanks past on its way out west. Thanks for the great song, I'll be looking forward to more! [ Reply to This ]
About that harmonica in the train yard, &mdash 10/01/07 - 03:53:48 PM
If you do that, please listen to my song, "Goin' Down For One Last Time" first, so you'll know what key to play it in. And be sure to record what you do so I can mix your track in with mine to make a new version of Goin' Down. Couldn't hurt, and it might make it even better.
Anyway Rik, Thanks for the listen and for the little story about the old 45's. It's really interesting to find out where different people get there different tastes in music and why.
Glad you liked this song, and took the time to let me know. Seriously, you might want to take a listen to Goin' Down For One Last Time. It's the Country writers mandatory train song, don't ya know.
Thanks again Rik
