almost felt like jazz fusion for some reason. what is that organ sound you used?

the generator is "Tonewheel Organ" from Organs: Jazz Organ. i think that's from the basic GB2 synth set. there's several adjustments you can make on that one. i was going for a Hammond B3 sort of sound...

thanks for listening!

this is a good GB2 tip! &mdash 09/26/07 - 11:20:56 PM
Yes &mdash 09/26/07 - 11:56:55 PM
yes ye yes it is good, it is very good... original, neat sampled vox on a happening bed. The ending made me chortle, and I don't chortle at just anything.

Yeya Yyeah! Is that Darth Vader breathing in the beginning? or is a whole lot of reverse gverb? Please - share your secret. Very cool track.

not a big secret, but here is what i did:

i recorded my voice saying "Yeah, Yeah Yeah Yeah!" a few times and picked the best one. then i played it backwards, dragged it into GarageBand with the AU Matrix Reverb set on something huge (Cathedral?) i exported that, reversed it again, so the Yeah's were forward, but the reverb was backwards, and finally dragged that back into GarageBand.

i wanted the Yeah's to reinforce the beat, but i said it too fast when i recorded it. rather than redo all that again, or time-stretch it, which would add artifacts, i opted to splice up the Yeah's by repeating a fraction of the front of each Yeah. that turned the Yeah into YeYeah.

since the reverb was huge, the "tail" was several seconds long. backwards, it's before the words. i spliced a chunk of the backwards tail - cutting it off well before the words actually start. i repeated that over and over during the beginning until the Yeah's actually are heard. but the cutoff seemed too abrupt, so i added reverb again (forwards this time) to blur out the cutoff. that's what forms that Darth Vader breathing like sound.

thanks Bud

it's that Hammond B3 sound i was trying to approximate. i think Emerson used that a lot.

the actual notes originally came from a program that played a long sequence random notes. i cut and pasted that into the loops that you hear here.

thanks

i added the harp at the end out of sheer desperation. i needed to end this beast somehow, but all the mayhem was sort of played out by that point. so i picked something out of left field: harp.

as for finding cool sounds, they're all in GarageBand and the JamPacks. spend time exploring, and you can find them too!

thanks Bill
