Morning Light (5)

Description:
When Morning Light graciously sent me her vocal tracks to "Still Waiting," I was reminded somewhat of Julee Cruise's ethereal vocals circa Twin Peaks. In an attempt to create a "Dream Pop" piece, with somewhat of a Cruise/Lynch-esque atmosphere, I tweaked ML vocals and my backing track a bit. This is the result.
p.s. If there's too much processing on the vocals, it's my fault--ML's original vocal tracks are cleaner and more up-front:

Morning Light washes over... &mdash 09/27/07 - 11:38:37 AM
ML's singing fits into this quite nicely... I think the slightly-over-the-top echoing actually works here, giving a dreamy gooey quality to the otherwise-sharp/precise sounds of the synths. Good ear for melting these together, and Linda, nice wafty singing (hope you're not "Still Waiting" for long!)

Agree about the processing &mdash 09/27/07 - 12:37:31 PM
Would have prefered the vocals a bit more up-front. Overall sound and production quality are clean. The MIDI guitar needs to have some "emotion" injected. As this song goes on, it begins to "ramble." A change up might suit it fine.
If I were to rate this, my consideration would be "better than average." More edge and emphasis (strikes and breadth) could be placed in taking this up a notch. As mentioned before, changing up the structure by adding an instrumental bridge might also maintain interest through out. [ Reply to This ]
Still a good song ... &mdash 09/27/07 - 02:06:33 PM
But I prefer the version with iamOpen singing.
(MJs song # 35532)
I 'm not a big fan of to many "Uhhs" and "Ahhs" ..)
Also I started listening to music in the days of Yazoo and that is what the other version reminded me of.

The vocals should be a bit more up-front! The mix is good and the production great... Nice collab [ Reply to This ]
Hm! &mdash 09/28/07 - 01:02:32 AM
I have a tune from ML and it sounds much better in my ears.
And like you say "ML's original vocal tracks were cleaner and more up-front" I have to agree.
If I was you I had done a REMIX.
You always do good songs so I know you can do it... Cheers

I have to add my two cents here .... &mdash 10/20/07 - 02:21:52 AM
.. I think this is MORNING LIGHT'S BEST-EST performance ... and I echo the others .... that a slight vocal boost in some areas ( I would also say .. that some of the backing tracks would remain slightly set back and optimized as backing) .... might have done the tune benefit ..... (I think I have heard them all so far .. the renditions that is ....) ... as different and diverse as they are .... each is so unique I think I am now inspired to post a forum on the topic of open collabs and how much I enjoy listening to each artist's personal take on the same piece of music ..... nice job ML .... although I STILL "CHALLENGE" you to experiment a little ... and try to put a LEAD vocal on a number .. and then add backing tracks separately ... I think it would have worked very nicely into this tune in particular .... [ Reply to This ]
That is &mdash 08/22/08 - 07:05:20 PM
a very nice blend of your music with Linda's voice. Dreamy but with wakefulness, expectation and hopeful anticipation. EZ, you have a fan. Thank you. [ Reply to This ]
