I like the feel &mdash 09/29/07 - 12:02:09 AM
I really like the sense of the recording space you have created here especially on headphones. It sounds like you used stereo micing on all the instruments and that I am in the middle of the performers and the performers are in the middle of a small hut in the middle of the forest. Your beautifully simple theme compliments the overall feel extremely well. I can tell that you thought a lot about the overall effect that the acoustics of a recording have on the listener. Well done!

I'd write more but I'm too relaxed now to continue.

except for the birds, all the rest is GarageBand instruments. the birdsong samples are binaural recordings. that certainly helps with the "space" - especially on headphones. i used the Matrix Reverb on the master track to attempt to get a feeling of being in a "room" (an extension of what i learned doing Tigre Blanco a while back). i also spread apart each track using the pan controls. so, yes, i did spend some time on the sound...

thanks!

`how am i`? &mdash 09/29/07 - 01:59:55 AM
I'm fine, now.
Nature is where we sound be, isn't it.
Tree good, concrete and steel bad.

This works for me Bill, esp. the choir.

although the various acoustic guitars aren't really natural, they sound like they ought to be. (actually, i slipped in an electric guitar too.)

thank you

really beautiful to listen to. I loved when the bass came in then the other instruments and it was like a blossom opening. Like wandering through a beautiful wooded garden. Lovely tune, thanks, M

i created this by improvising each part one at a time, pretty much in the order you hear them come in. i remember thinking it needed a bass part to hold it all together. i guess until the bass comes in, the chords aren't solidly established?

thanks for listening

well, theta waves aren't really sound waves... they're brain waves... they are very low frequency, like sub-sub bass. if you played theta waves through a loudspeaker i suppose you might *feel* it, but you wouldn't hear it.

there's a bunch of info here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theta_wave

this is the main thing about theta waves that i was referring to:

"Theta rhythms are normally absent in healthy awake adults but are physiological and natural in awake children under the age of 13 years. Nonetheless, theta activity can be observed in adults during some sleep states, and in states of quiet focus, for example meditation..."

thanks for your interest

Smokey - you're such a nice guy &mdash 09/29/07 - 08:29:31 PM
This is a beautiful gift - carefully crafted and patiently developed - just to chill our mac addicted minds and bring some peace to the ether. Thanks buddy.

LOL - it's funny how i can give away the same little gift to several people - and it's just as personal for each person - giving flowers doesn't work that way! - i love the information age.

i must admit i was surprised at the response to this song. i actually only made it for myself, for the love of creating it itself, nothing more.

thanks Bud

Laying on the layers of well conceived sound kind of like Mike. This one is quiet and relaxing.

Thanks

MO is one of my idols! thank you kind sir.

funny thing is, there was absolutely no plan for this song. not even a ague concept. it just happened one evening. i chose several guitar synths, and played them on the keyboard (except the choir of course).

it's all improvised, with a few fixed notes here and there. i was very tempted to "snap to grid" the timing, but i opted to leave the timing alone (except a few really messed up places that i shifted with snap turned off). the idea was to give it a natural feel.

i spent several days afterwards figuring out the acoustics of it (see my first comment reply).

and i fooled around with the order of entry for each part for a long while until i finally used mostly the order i had initially recorded them. somehow there is a natural build up that way: it captures how i made it up to begin with, i suppose.

thanks for listening

Bill, this is amazing pretty music. I feel like I'm sipping coconut juice in an island paradise, with the angels singing.
